Mirror Lake #3

This Loving Feeling

Rate this book
Samantha Rushford’s future looks bright: the high school art teacher is getting ready to leave Mirror Lake and move to Boston with her ambitious boyfriend, and she hopes a diamond ring is just around the corner. But her past still has a hold on her—especially the bittersweet memory of her rebellious ex, who kissed her passionately before he left town without a word.

Since then, Lukas Spikonos has parlayed his rebel ways into life as an up-and-coming recording artist. When he shows up for a surprise gig at the high school prom, Sam is more dumbstruck than starstruck—he used the words of a poem she wrote about their breakup to create a number one hit. But Lukas hasn’t returned just to impress students; he’s facing some real-life responsibilities and needs Sam’s help. But she has her own unresolved issues about the life she wants to lead. Will the music—and the pull of true love and family—put their hearts back in harmony?

Seriously, I've been singing this song by The Righteous Brothers the moment I started reading This Loving Feeling. When rockstar Lukas Spikonos returned to his hometown, everyone cheered for him, school kids adored him, townfolks welcomed him. Except for Samantha, the one he left six years ago. Now, a song and a kiss re-ignited their feelings, but nothing's the same ever again..

You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips
And there's no tenderness like before in your fingertips
You're trying hard not to show it
But baby, baby I know it

You lost that lovin' feelin'
Whoa, that lovin' feelin'
You lost that lovin' feelin'
Now it's gone, gone, gone, woh

Now there's no welcome look in your eyes when I reach for you
And now you're starting to criticize little things I do
It makes me just feel like crying
'Cause baby, something beautiful is dyin'.

Yep.... that's basically how the story started... But the ending was a catch. It blew me away and I loved it! Miranda Liasson wrote a story about forgiveness, commitment, growing up and moving on. I loved every bit of Spike, Stevie and Samantha's story.. So sweet, this loving feeling!

Seven years ago, Samantha Rushford was a vibrant girl , a risk-taker with a rebellious side and was in love with a local boy named Lukas aka Spike. Then tragedy happened and her brother died and Lukas disappeared. Next thing she knew, she was a different girl and had a steady yet boring boyfriend Harris and the guy she loved had moved on to bigger and better things as he became a music success story. One thing that she hated though besides Lukas leaving her was the fact that he stole the lyrics she had written him and he used it for his Number #1 song. What Sam doesn't know though is that all of his songs have been about her. Now Seven years later, Sam is a teacher at the local high school in Mirror Lake and is still dating Harris who is now on his way to becoming a Senator . She is even looking to move to Boston,to be closer to Harris. That is until one night, starts to turn her life upside down and set her feelings and allow her true self to be revealed - a side she has hidden away for seven years. Music celebrity Lukas is back in town and he arrives at the high school Prom as the music , he also has a secret - he is now the guardian of his four year old nephew Stevie - whom I loved in this book, he was such a cute character and had me awhing in places. Soon sparks are re-ignited between Sam and Lukas, but will she act on her emotions especially since she is practically to be engaged to Harris ? Will Sam allow Lukas back into her heart and will she be able to walk away from little Stevie as they become closer and form a mother/son bond throughout the novel ?

Find out in this sweet Smalltown Romance "This Loving Feeling" by Miranda Liasson - a novel that shows us sometimes , life is worth taking a few risks in order to achieve happiness and that more often than not - the safe option is not nessecarily the right choice.

I received an email from Montlake with an offer to read This Loving Feeling via Net-Galley in exchange for an honest review. I had read This Thing Called Love, Book 1 of the Mirror Lake series and enjoyed it a great deal, so I eagerly accepted it. I always enjoy stories with children in them and this book has an adorable four-year-old whose life has been a hot mess until Stevie started living with his uncle, Lukas. I’m glad I requested this book and thoroughly enjoyed it.

While there are no earth-shattering moments in This Loving Feeling, I enjoyed the romance between Lukas and Samantha. The chemistry between them is strong, and I enjoyed the tastefully-written love scenes a great deal. I always enjoy second chance romances and this one is excellent. It also has a bit of a love triangle in it as well.

The pacing is excellent, and I became engaged in the story from the first page and remained that way until the end, rooting for them to find a solution that would bring them their happily ever after. Ms. Lisson’s writing style is smooth, blending the right amount of narrative with realistic dialogue.

Samantha is an interesting character. She wants desperately to do the right thing by marrying the man she thinks will be accepted by her family and the townspeople. Because she had a troubled senior year and made what she saw as bad choices, she’s afraid to take a chance on true love, preferring to settle for safe and steady, but a man that does not rock her world. I did become a bit frustrated with her because it was so obvious Harris was not the man for her.

Lukas is a great hero. I liked him from the start. His determination to take care of his nephew stole my heart. Lukas has a lot of baggage from his troubled childhood, so it’s no wonder he is hesitant to share the depth of his feelings with Sam, especially when she clings to her old vision of what her life should be. What he is willing to do for her at the end blew me away. I know I’m being vague here, but you will have to read this book and then you will understand!

If you enjoy a character driven romance with intriguing characters and a sweet little boy that is sure to steal your heart, then you will like This Loving Feeling as much as I did. I was really rooting for Lukas and Sam to find their happy ending. Happy reading!

I feel like I've been waiting awhile for this book, especially since I unknowingly read the spinoff first. I was always intrigued by Sam and Lukas, and that grew again as I read this series and saw more of them in background. This was one of my favorites by this author. I love second chances...and little Stevie was so precious!

Slick's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

Sometimes you read a new to you author and you wonder where she's been all your life and that's how I felt when I read This Loving Feeling by Miranda Liasson. Here's the deal, this book really didn't catch my eye for review; I mean the cover is okay and everything but the publisher sent me a request and when I read the synopsis I knew it was something I needed to read because it is about a musician. I'm sorry guys, yes I read other things but I really, really love books about musicians. It's also a second or in this couple's case a third chance at love story and I'm a sucker for those as well, so double whammy and I knew I had to read this book and I'm so glad I did. Sweet, funny and sensual with a side of sexy I loved every minute of This Loving Feeling.

Samantha (Sam) Rushford think she has her life figured out; 6 years with a man she feels certain she'll spend the rest of her life with, an upcoming move to Boston to be closer to him and a new job on the horizon and then Lukas Spikonos drifts back into town for a surprise performance at the high school where Sam teaches art. Lukas, the man that left twice breaking her heart into pieces each time and while there's so much about him that hasn't changed, it's evident he's grown up starting with the fact he is has custody of his 5 year old nephew, Stavros (Stevie).

Holy smokin' baklava (and yes, that's a nod to Lukas' Greek heritage) the chemistry and tension between these two for a good portion of this story was enough to make my Kindle burst into flames, but then it was tempered with these sweet moments they both shared with the scene stealing Stevie. Oh Sam fought her attraction because after all she was "almost engaged" to her boyfriend of 6 years (who IMHO was a stuffed shirt prick) and Lukas just would not let up even if he knew he wasn't long term relationship material he wanted something and someone better for Sam (after they burned off some of the tension between them because while he wants Sam happy, he really, really wants Sam in his bed). It would be easy to think of Lukas as a jerk, but then his actions showed a different story.

So many great moments in this book and through it all these two people who had a past, managed to move forward and find the love they both needed in their lives; the kind of love that drives you crazy, makes your heart race and you know you can't live without. As soon as I finished this book, I raced to Amazon and 1 clicked the first two books in this series, that's how much I loved this one. I can't go another day without reading how Sam's brothers found the women in their lives.

Received an ARC from netgalley.
3rd book in the Mirror Lakes series and this one was the best one yet for me.
I really enjoyed Samantha's story and it tied in nicely to the prior 2 books which are well worth reading and I suggest you read first to prevent spoilers.
Samantha was a rebel growing up and Lukas was the guy she fell for but when he left Mirror Lake to later become a famous musician and one of her brothers dies in an accident along with his wife she changes and starts to settle down. She is dating an ambitious guy that wants her to move to Boston . When Lukas resurfaces in Mirror Lake her old feelings for him start to resurface but she is practically engaged to another man Harris.
Samantha finds herself spending more time with Lukas and his nephew and they start to feel like a family whereas her boyfriend is so absorbed in his career that they barely see each other and she feels that she has to act appropriately to live up to his and his family's high standards and expectations of her.
Miranda writes so well about her characters that they feel like real people and I like that you see them struggle with their feelings and the more you learn about Samantha and Lukas's past you know that she deserves to be with a man who really cares for her. I was so happy to see her dump Harris .
This is an author that I will automatically read anything she publishes and had already pre ordered this novel before receiving an ARC.

I love this series and I think this might be my favorite of all. It can easily be read standalone but if you love small town romances you will want to read all of them. This is Samantha's story. She's ready to move away from Mirror Lake with long time boyfriend and hopefully soon to be fiance Harris. So what if he doesn't make her heart sing and her body sizzle. He's kind, dependable, and safe. She's had her bad boy and all that go her was a broken heart.

Lukas Spikonos left Mirror Lake in his rear view long ago. Now he's back. Not the wrong side of the tracks bad boy but a well know rock star and the talk of the town. He needs help though. Help only Samantha Rushford can give him. He's raising his nephew on his own and has no idea about what that entails. He knows he hurt her when he left but he wants to make that up to her now. Will she let him? Will that same attraction and sizzle still be there? Could they ever make it work considering the craziness of his life?

You want to grab this one and find out, it's an excellent story and one I highly recommend.

Samantha has her future planned, she's going to marry her boyfriend Harris and she'll support him in achieving his political goals. She will move in with him and leave Mirror Lake and everything she loves behind. He's her safe choice and she thinks she's doing the right thing, until Lukas comes back to their hometown. Lukas is now a famous singer who left Sam six years ago without every contacting her again. He was the one who broke her heart and now that he's back she doesn't want him to smash it to pieces once more.

Lukas is taking care of his adorable nephew and he's looking for some stability. He wants to adopt the boy and be a responsible parent. Sam is an art teacher and as she's brilliant with kids Lukas could use her help. It will also give them a chance to form a connection again. Their spark might still be there, but will Lukas be willing to commit this time? Once he manages to convince her he's sincere who will Sam choose, him or her almost fiancé Harris?

This Loving Feeling is a wonderful romantic book. I immediately loved Sam and Lukas. They have great chemistry and I loved their conversations. Lukas has a lot of making up to do and Sam is with someone else, so he has to fight for her with everything he has, which is a good foundation for a love story. I immediately liked their connection. They're both talented and creative people and it was fun to read about Lukas's performances and about Sam's art. Lukas is charming and generous and Sam is kind and caring, they both really deserve to be happy.

Miranda Liasson's writing has an easy flow and she knows how to tell stories about relationships. She perfectly understands what's going on in people's hearts. I love her descriptions of feelings and the way she explores the emotions of her main characters. Everything she describes feels natural and realistic. There are several interesting twists and turns in the story and I loved the exceptionally sweet ending.

Mirror Lake is a fantastic town and I immediately fell in love with the inhabitants. I enjoyed reading about their lives very much. This Loving Feeling is the third part of a series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. Miranda Liasson has made sure the reader won't miss anything important and I love her vivid descriptions of the important locations, she includes them in a clever way by giving them a real part in the story. I also liked the charity work aspect very much, it's a fascinating part of the story with a friendly atmosphere, which gives the book something extra special. I highly recommend this fabulous heartwarming series.

Five Fabulous Second Chance Stars! Samantha fell in love with Lukas while in high school, then he left town suddenly. Fast forward a couple years and Samantha now is a high school teacher. She is practically engaged to another man when Lukas returns to Mirror Lake. Lukas is a bad boy rock star who is raising his nephew and he has returned to win back Samantha. Will Lukas be able to rekindle Samantha's feeling and will they get their happily ever after? The author writes a well written sweet story that will leave you feeling good. The characters chemistry was great and I was rooting for them to be together. This book is the third book in the Mirror Lake Series but can be read as a stand-alone novel. I recommend this book and tell you to one-click it!

The more I read of the Mirror Lake series the more I enjoy it. This book could be read as a standalone but I suggest starting from the beginning on getting to know these siblings.

I'm really glad this was Samantha's book and super glad she ended up with Lukas. A little background on the couple is that they dated when Sam was in high school and Lukas was a couple years older then her. Lukas didn't have the best childhood and felt he was never good enough for Sam. He left Mirror Lake to become someone and it just so happens he is now a famous musician.

Now that Lukas is back in Mirror Lake old feelings are starting to surface but she is almost engaged to another man. The more time Samantha spends with Lukas and his adorable nephew the more she can see them becoming a family but it won't be easy and Sam will fight her feelings every step of the way.

What I really enjoyed about this book was the little pieces the author gave about their past. I loved how they grew in their relationship at that time but hated how Lukas left things with her when she needed him the most. Now as adults I loved them chemistry and the way Sam did try to stay away from him even though it was hard. The way Lukas stepped up for his nephew had me swooning and they actually had some really cute parts together.

Honestly I couldn't wait for Sam to dump Harris. I was expecting more drama from him like cheating or something but was pleasantly surprised nothing like that even came up. He was just an asshat who didn't deserve Sam which worked out great for Lukas.

There is the mention of Lukas' brothers throughout the story and it looks like he is trying to find them. I'm hoping the next book is about one of them and they move to Mirror Lake to start over. The more I read of this series the more I want to move to this town.

If you're looking for a sweet romance about second chances definitely give This Loving Feeling a shot!

I remember Lukas & Sam from This Love of Mine and that I couldn’t wait to find out how they come back together again. And Liasson delivers a winner.

It’s quite a few years later and Sam’s ready to start a life with someone else … then Lukas comes back into town. Even though she’s tried very hard to move on, having Lukas nearby is throwing everything into turmoil.

Lukas has worked very hard to be successful. A foster kid who never really knew love or family, he doesn’t believe that he’s got what it takes to be in a relationship. He’s convinced that leaving was the best thing he could do for Sam. Until he sees her again.

I adored these two together. Sam tries so hard to be the good girl but she’s hiding her spirit and trying to fit into what she thinks she should want, not necessarily what she does want. Having her sexy and oh-so-tempting ex around, showing her what a great man he’s grown up to be, definitely isn’t helping things.

And while Lukas may not think he has what it takes to be a family man, especially with the crazy life of an up-and-coming rock star, his actions definitely speak loudly. He may not have had the best childhood but he’s turned into a kind and caring man. He just has to learn to believe in himself.

It is so great seeing these two come together again. While they have a few bumps getting there, they manage to figure out what works for them and throw everything they have into making it work. Knowing that things will work out makes it easier to sit back and see them work through their issues. Those growing moments just grabbed my heart and didn’t let go.

So she was suicidal in high school?

Emphasis on "desperately". It sounds like she's forcing herself into this relationship.

When you're not having sex in so long you can't remember, it's a red flag.

He left his car? That had to be some bad break-up.

"My friend Ellen". Ugh.

Oh no he didn't!

Wow. And his "people" are letting a five-year-old walk around with beer? Stevie shouldn't even know what beer is!

Who's stalking whom, exactly?

Geez, glad there weren't mean girls like this at my school.

You're a father now. Wear pants.

Is this kid five or thirty-five?

Her boyfriend is such a douche-canoe.

Now I want spanikopita.

This moron is either gay or a cheater.

Good song.

Oh hell no! She gave up sugar for that guy?!

Haha, Effie's funny!

Oh, that was a good year for the Stamos hair.

Preach it, sisters-in-law.

Nicely played, Evan.

Eh, cold pizza is good. Totally worth it, in this case.

Now I have the Beatles song "We Can Work It out" in my head.

Ooh, nice choice for a ring.

Definitely buy another dress. You can always wear the first one later and have a party just to show it off.

I received this book for free from the author/publisher from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I liked this story. I made the mistake at looking at some of the other reviews before reading this book but most were DNF due to cheating but I gave it a chance and am glad I did. The physical "cheating" was two kisses. These other reviewers made it sound so much worse, as in full blown affair which isn't true and not fair to the author. In fact the overall steam factor wasn't even that high, mostly a lot of building up of chemistry and emotions which is a sign of a good writer and a great book. I didn't even realize that this was the third book until i saw in the afterword that the author was "revisiting" Mirror Lake where the story takes place. The lessons on love - about not giving up, learning to compromise and take chances are great. I hope that more people give this book a chance and are not turned off by the negative reviews. I look forward to reading more by Miranda Liasson.

This Loving Feeling is an interesting addition to Mirror Lake. Ms. Liasson takes the "first love second chance" approach and ups the ante with a current boyfriend, a celebrity ex, and a child. The back and forth between Samantha and Lukas was fun to watch - they have a comfortable reparte. I also enjoyed reading the aspects of the story that bounced back to when they first met, although there were a couple of times I had trouble telling whether I was in the present or the past.

I almost felt sorry for Sam at the beginning because I feel like she had lost herself in her boyfriend. I was pleased to see her find herself and her strength as the book progressed. Childhood trauma had given Samantha a flawed self-worth and Lukas was the one to help her as a teen, and it took him coming back to realize she'd lost herself again. It was a great story of redemption and finding your true love.

Once I begin reading a book, I usually finish it quickly. So after having just read a book that I took a frustratingly long time to get through, I was happy when the next book I picked was This Loving Feeling, by Miranda Liasson. This book is part of her Mirror Lake novels. (I have not read the 2 other books in this series, but I recently read her book, A Man of Honor, and I really liked it.) This Loving Feeling touches on a range of topics: high school bullying, opposites attraction, young love, a rising singing career, parenting, friendship, trust, family dynamics, unresolved feelings, and small town life. I liked Samantha and Lukas and the secondary characters. I liked getting to know them as the story unfolded. The story was believable and showed how the years had changed Samantha and Lukas and how much they matured. Now I want to go back and read This Thing Called Love and This Love of Mine! Miranda Liasson is becoming a go to author for me!

I love second chance love stories, especially when the hero is a hot bad boy. I loved Lukas Spikonos. He was everything I want in a book hero. Lukas had a sad childhood, but he had one thing going for him. His voice.

Years earlier, he fell in love with Samantha Rushford, but he had nothing to offer Sam. When he left town, Sam was crushed. Now a teacher at the local high school, she is “almost” engaged to another man when Lukas returns to Mirror Lake. The bad boy she once loved is now a rock star and sexier than ever. What I loved about Lukas is that although he’s rough around the edges, the man has a big heart. He’s the perfect balance of a bad/good boy.

What does Lukas want? He wants Sam, of course, and nothing will stop him from winning her back. This is a wonderful story and I enjoyed every minute of it. I highly recommend THIS LOVING FEELING.

This is the third book in this series about Samantha and Lukas. They met six years earlier when Samantha was 18 and Lukas was 22. He was considered the bad boy because of his image and he had no family. He really was a good guy but he didn't feel he was so he left town so Samantha could move on with her life. Lukas is back in town with his young nephew. Samantha is almost engaged and as soon as they see each other the chemistry starts. Lukas is sexy, kind, caring, loyal super guy and Samantha is so kind and spunky. Loved these two together and watching them slowly start to realize they have always loved each other and seeing the town and Samantha's family show Lukas that he belongs there and he is a good guy made this an exceptional book. Excellent story, I have loved this series.

Another great read!!

This is Samantha and Lukas's story of meeting breaking up and the beautiful love they share and have been trying to fight for the past 6 years.

Lukas came from an abusive home, ending up being separated from his 4 brothers in foster care. Ever since, all he's ever done was look out for himself. Meeting Sam for the first time at 21, when she was just 18 and suffering from the loss of her brothers death. It was love at first sight on both ends, but she told him how she felt, never the reverse.

When he comes back to town after 6 years to find her, he has become a rock star sensation. But he needs her help. With another man in Sam's life, will she let him in or has he been there the whole time just waiting?

Read on!!

I enjoyed this book. It was a mix of small town love/high school love returns. Samantha and Lukas met when she was in high school when he saved her from bullies. They started hanging out and her heart was broken when Lukas leaves her suddenly to try his music. Lukas left knowing he wasn't good enough for her. But fast forward a number of years and Lukas shows up at the high school prom where Samantha is a teacher. He has always loved her, but to win her back isn't going to be easily especially with a young nephew he has to try to learn to raise.

Like everyone else Sam just wants to be happy. The problem? Figuring out what she has to do in order to become that way. Ms. Liasson has a knack for intertwining the reader with the story, at least in my case. Her characters are so life like that it feels as if they jump off the page and pulled me inside. Lukas and Sam face some tough choices on the road to forgiveness if a second chance is even possible. I received an ARC of This Loving Feeling in exchange for an honest review. It takes more than love to make a relationship work, it takes dedication and maturity as well. Ms. Liasson at her finest.

I really enjoyed this book! It's just a sweet, feel-good story. I haven't read the others in the series, but it seems this could be a standalone anyway. There is a lot of secondary characters and it was confusing at first, but they must be in the other books too, so I must read those next!

There were a few backstory chapters, and that tends to bother me when they're super long (I like books to keep in the present, keep the plot going...) but this backstory was succinct and was necessary to the story.

Overall, a well written book and a great story! I'll come back for more!

I enjoyed this book. I typically don't read e-books, but I do LOVE how quickly they allow me to get started reading! I didn't realize that this was part of a series, but now I will have to read the others--Mirror Lake sounds like somewhere I'd like to live. When Sam and Harris broke up and she reconciled with Lukas, I expected that to be the end and was surprised there was so much more to go. While in hindsight, of course it makes sense that she would think he was leaving her again, I had kind of mentally checked out at that point. Overall, an enjoyable small town romance!

This was a new author for me. I was very pleased with this book. It took me a bit to get into it but I was soon sucked into the story. I don't want to be a spoiler so I will just say that the twists in the story didn't end up where I thought they would! Very refreshing to not know what what happens ahead of time! To be truthful I won this book as a pre-release (July 19) but I truly did enjoy it. Now to find some more of Mirandas books!

Charming. I had not read any of the earlier Mirror Lake novels but I'll look for them now because this was delightful. Sam and Lukas - you know they're ultimately going to get together but Liasson does such a nice job of creating the tension and their relationship. This was a relaxing entertaining read. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC.

I love it!!!

I'm so glad that Miranda decided to expand on Sam and Lukas's relationship. They were such a small part of the other books and this explains their history so beautifully. A good read for sure

Another good book from Miranda

Its wonderful to read books where people take chances in life and in love. Once again we smiled, laugh and cried over the wonderful love story of another Rushford. Good job again Miranda!

Love this cute contemporary romance series!

*I don't like this cover reflects the characters....our main love interest is a rockstar bad boy covered in tattoos.
