The bittersweet collection of 40 poems by Pierra Calasanz—Labrador is the literary equivalent of an “ugly cry,” you know, the distorted, tear-streaked face you invariably end up with at the end of a rom-com that hits too close to home.
Alternately nostalgic, sad, and sweet, The Heartbreak Diaries journeys through heartache and hope in search of romance, and is written for anyone who has ever experienced love in any form—whether it’s puppy love or possessive love, unconditional, or simply unrequited. Accompanied by Celina de Guzman’s dreamy illustrations, this refreshingly candid collection contains a universal truth about finding “The One.”
Pierra Calasanz-Labrador is a former magazine editor turned freelance writer, stylist, and treasure hunter (she pens the column Fifi s Finds in Manila Bulletin). Two decades after attending the National Writers Workshop in Silliman, Dumaguete, she is finally finding the courage to put her poetry out into the universe, but won t hesitate to talk your ear off about cats, cosmic connections, pretty Filipino finds, and the healing power of J- and K-dramas. I just read this while waiting for my sister to buy her school supplies at the National Bookstore. Really short and swift read, and it is kinda expensive for such a little book. But I liked the poems here—they're full of heartbreaks and hope. What I loved more were the illustrations; they were really beautiful and captivating. Gave me an idea to put watercoloured illustrations on my future poetry book haha lol
