***Teach Me To Live is Book One in the Teach Me Series. Each novel can be read as a stand alone as each novel will follow different characters.***
All I can do is wish for one more day to fall in love with you.
Madison Avery is the poster child for obedience. Ruled by anxiety and fear, she never expected Austin Weir. Everything about the tattooed, blue-eyed boy shatters every well-configured law in the Avery household.
Teaching Madison to live, Austin breaks through the prison of her anxiety. They spend the summer taking chances, making memories, and falling in love.
But love has no comprehension of time. It doesn't fade when summer bleeds into fall and time ends. Love, like life, must continue.
Madison learns that love doesn't exist within time. It is endless and unfading and heartbreaking.
But one lesson is learned: love is living without regret.
Born and raised in Alberta, Canada, Alannah Carbonneau is only a short drive away from the Rocky Mountains that have a staring place in so many of her novels. With seventeen novels and counting currently available on Amazon, Alannah is not only a full-time author, but a full-time mom of two beautiful boys, and wife to an amazing man who always has her back. She lives in a rambling ranch house that needs way too many renos and has one too many cats, but she is happy and in love.
With a solid circle of friends and family, and a very manly, supportive husband who does his best to make sure his family is taken care of, Alannah’s novels feature manly men (sometimes they can be a LOT manly) and friend/family relationships weaved into the stories, because life is about a whole mess of people, and although this is fiction, the best fiction is sprinkled with sweet (and sometimes not so sweet) bits of reality.
Because she loves romance, Alannah writes Contemporary and New Adult Romance. Soon to be released is the Creekwood Valley Series that has ties to the reader beloved Donnelley Brother Series, where light suspense and romance weave to create titillating stories that not only steal your heart but keep you on the edge of your seat. She is the author of the highly rated Teach Me Series, an emotional read about love, life and lessons learned. Our Dark Design is a standalone erotic romance peppered with enough suspense to keep you turning the pages, and The Choice is an entirely unconventional standalone romance about three.
She is currently working on a Cross World Fantasy Romance Series for Adults she can’t wait to share with you, because this will feature hot men who are a little bit dominant and a lot protective who are head over heels in love with stubborn, magnificent women.
When Alannah isn’t writing or spending time with her three men, she can be found in her garden, or with a paint brush in hand. But no matter where she is or what she’s doing, you can bet that she’s thinking of a love story she can share with you.
I do not usually write reviews but this book has touched me in a way that I could not even understand or even help but share ,its realy hard for me to feel so much emotion in order to crie over a book and its realy rare for me, having that said I never cried so much while reading a book , but with this book I felt so much it looked like I was living every word of what was happening in the book. when I read the reviews I saw then that would be a very exciting and emotional book , and normaly I like to play safe with books because Im allways afraid to feel the emotions that I am feeling now but i took a risk and I can say with absolute certainty that I will never regret having read it and I will keep this book to treasure forever in my memory as one of my favorites, and i can not wait to read what next this amazing autor has to offer in this series. Teach Me To Live
It could have been so good, but I am not sure what it was but I did not connect with the characters as much as I would have liked to. Yes it is emotional and sad and a lot of other things, but by the end I did not care.
I am not sure about all the 5 star reviews. I am not sure if they are ARCs, etc. This is my opinion. You may feel differently. Reading is subjective.
Such a beautiful love story! I would give this book 10 stars if I could...
“Have you ever encountered someone whose entity calls to you beyond any stretch of your imagination, beyond any explanation? Have you ever looked into someone’s eyes, and in them, saw a piece of yourself reflecting back? Have you ever touched another human being, and felt your soul stir from its hibernation? And you realize in that moment, that all the living you’ve been doing, was nothing more than walking the path you needed to take to cross paths with her? Have you ever met someone and known, that no matter what, you can’t fathom existing without her?? Not even for her own well being? If there is one thing in this world I need before I take my final salutation, it’s her.” ~ Austin (Chap. 5)
This was one beautiful love story! Full of emotion and heartache, which only added to the dynamic of the story. Madison was always doing what everyone else wanted. She didn’t have friends, and her parents were always telling her what to do. Making her own decisions without consulting her. Trying to do what was really in their best interest instead of hers. Madison was a sad soul. And, in her deep brown eyes is where it all showed. The sorrow. The vacant stare. There was just no spark. No life. And, when she meets Austin, he can see it all. She’s an open book to him. And, when he professes to her “if you ever feel like living a little, give me a call” she can’t help but be intrigued. With his phone number scrawled on her arm, she decides to copy it into her diary for safe-keeping. A few days later, Madison takes Austin up on his offer, and calls him. And, what starts out as just a brief encounter, develops into something so much more. But, there is a huge secret that Austin is keeping from Madison. And, it comes with pain and heartbreak.
I loved Madison and Austin’s story! Austin was such a brave guy. He was so amazing in his own-right. Wise beyond his years. Stunning blue eyes and longish black hair graced his six-foot two immaculately tattooed body. He was just an eyeful to look at. And, damn, he rode a motorcycle too. He was a God!! Madison is brave too as she lets Austin show her what living is like. How to have fun and just enjoy life. How to live for yourself. He’s patient and caring with her as she’s torn about telling her parents she’s decided to make her own decisions concerning where life takes her whether they’re mistakes or not. Boy, this was one emotional roller coaster! I was totally floored when I found out what Austin’s secret was! I can’t go into it much more than that without giving away spoilers, but be prepared for one incredible story that will definitely have you thinking about it long after you’ve read the final page. Another great book that I’ve read this year! Ms. Carbonneau really impressed me with her writing and her ability to suck the reader fully into an emotionally heartfelt story. One not to be missed!

This book is truly a great read. Emotional is not a strong enough word to describe this story. I loved it from beginning to end and cried on nearly every page. Beautiful story.
If your like me and you read a lot of books you will find you take away different things from each story you read, sometimes it may just be an escape read from everyday life, it may be a funny read that makes you giggle or it may be a read that affects you in such a profound and intense way that you feel the story within your being!
The latter description is the effect this story had on me as I read Teach Me To Live. From the very first page I felt drawn into this books world so deep that I couldn't put the story down, resulting in me reading through in one session. This is not the first book I've read from Alannah Carbonneau I've read many of her works previous and I've always found her writing style wonderful, she's able to write a fabulous story so good it's a readers dream to read it, however I honestly feel she's out done herself here with this book.
This story and Ms Carbonneau's writing is on a whole new level. To say this book is an emotional journey is a big understatement, there isn't a phrase known that could be used to put into context just how much of an impact this will have on you emotionally and physically. Yeah you may wonder how a book can touch you physically but believe me as you read this and experience the heavy weight pain in your bones, the ache in your chest, the soreness of the lump in your throat and the flow of tears that steadily leak from your eyes - then you'll realise a book can affect you physically !!
Madison Avery has her whole life ahead of her she has dreams and aspirations like any young girl but her parents seem to think they have a better life plan for her. Madison finds herself at a cross roads in her life when she literally bumps into Austin Weir, a tattooed biker boy that makes her head spin and her skin tingle. Austin sees Madison much more than she can see herself, he realises she's at a vulnerable crossroads in life and swears he can teach her to live life not just coast along. Just as Madison begins to open her eyes to the world around her and put her trust in Austin she learns life's hardest lesson, Austin has a secret of his own.
Whether I wrote a review for this story that was one sentence long or a full text book size there is no possible way for me to convey just how captivatingly sad but beautiful this story is and how much it will stay with you forever after the last page is turned. If you pick only one book up to read ever again make it this book - you really will not be left disappointed at all.
It's so hard to read this when you had already lived what the characters are experiencing. This book turned my heart in pieces. Loved it and will read it again. Alannah knew how to tell the way you feel when you're loosing everything, when you are so close to death that the only thing you want is to live.
4.5 stars. When I first opened this book on my Kindle, I scrunched up my nose. Why? Insta-love, right there in the first three pages. But, this book had been on my to-read this for awhile and I don't ever judge a book by the first few pages. So, I read on.
I'm glad I did because I really ended up loving Madison and Austin and Kaiden, and well, all the characters. I'm a hopeless romantic at heart and this just tugged at my heartstrings. Not to mention that I was bawling like a baby by the last 10%. Some of the passages were just...beautiful.
So why minus the .5 star? Well, the insta-love for one. But the bigger reason is that Madison is shown to have panic attacks, at least she says she does. We see it twice but it's only addressed once. The first time it was a pretty serious thing but it is never addressed again.

This was really good. It was so sad but it was really good. I was a fan of both Madison and Austin’s storylines. Did I see what Austin was hiding coming from a mile away? Yes I did. That’s why I dock it a bit in a star because I did see that it was coming. But it didn’t destroy the book for me at all. The ending had me in tears the entire way to the end. I liked the side characters that we see throughout it too!
Oh wow. I didn’t expect this from this book! I was surprised that I enjoyed it so much. The more I read books it’s hard to find a good book with great writing, and I liked the writing in this one! It’s really BEAUTIFUL !
I liked Austin’s point on life, it’s hard to imagine what one would do. But eh that’s the beauty in it I suppose.
I’m glad I read this! If you haven’t you should.
A fer warning, read in private if you are emotional mess like myself!
I wasn't as impressed by this book as I have been by previous books by Alannah. I think this was too depressing for me. There was a twist, but I found it to be sad! Not the kind of twist I look for in a romance book. There wasn't as much steam as I like to have, either. The writing quality was good, though. Based on what I've seen of Kaiden from this story, I think his would be more fitting for me!
This book was a total surprise to me. I went in blind without reading reviews or about the book. Let me tell you the only regret I have is reading parts of it on break at work because my co-workers couldn’t figure out why I was bawling my eyes out. Very rarely do I give a book 5 stars but this was very deserving.
This is the second book that I have read of hers and I am in love with this amazing story teller. What a sweet beautiful tale. It takes a lot to bring the tears on, especially with a book, but give it a read I’m pretty sure you won’t regret it.
Heart felt touching book. I have never cried so hard reading a book and this book, definitely made me cried. Will I read it again? Yes, yes I will. The heartache was definitely real. Absolutely loved every second reading this book.
This was the first book I’ve read from Alannah Carbonneau – honestly, I’m taken. I don’t even know how to put the words together for this review – I am hoping as I continue to type the words will come together. When I first started the story I felt it was a slow reading story – as if I had been reading forever yet I wasn’t very far into the book. Then all of a sudden everything came together and it was pure and devastatingly beautiful. This book broke me – LITERALLY – tears wouldn’t stop, I couldn’t think of anything else. I HAD to finish this story and find out what happens. Through the story, it is hinted as to what is going to happen, yet you cannot begin to prepare yourself for it – not even a little bit. Every tear that slid down my face was absolutely worth every heartbreaking moment of this story. I needed this story as a reminder of LIVING.
You fall in love with Madison immediately – she lives a sheltered life with overprotective parents. She doesn’t trust easily and really doesn’t have any friends. “ I had acquaintances and people I gravitated toward through school, but I never went out of my way to be a constant in their life” Can you imagine being so closed off because you are afraid of getting hurt? Then having these over protective parents – she was living a lonely life.
Madison meets the swoon-worthy Austin, who is completely tatted up, long hair and rides a motorcycle. He sets out to teach her how to live – literally. “oh, my goodness – my parents would send me to prison just for talking to this guy.” You know that saying “Never judge a book by its cover” ? Well this book is a strong reminder of that exact quote.
To watch Madison grow as a person, the way Austin teaches her to love life, it’s beautiful – amazingly, heartbreakingly beautiful. This story is a reminder to live each day as it is your last – enjoy all of your surroundings, every last detail. You can never live today again. Give out as many heart hugs as you possibly can – ALWAYS!
4.5 Stars from me! This story will stick with me for a long time.
Thank you, Alannah for reminding me to give out those heart hugs!!
I received a complimentary copy of Teach Me To Live in exchange for an honest review.
I cannot tell you how grateful I am to have had the pleasure of reading Teach Me to Live!!
This book WOW how do I explain it, I need to try and discover new words because words like 'Amazing and heartbreakingly beautiful don't seem strong enough words for this book.
Madison Avery is a yes girl, she does things to please others even if it means having an internal battle with herself. She has a future set out for her that is taking grip of her soul and crushing it, she's been groomed all her life, leading a sheltered upbringing from her parents. Madison has dreams of becoming a writer, but she can't find the courage to stand up for herself, so instead she's going to end up doing a degree that will become a 6 year prison sentence for her soul.
Now enter the blue eyed, tatted god who is ready to turn her world on its axis.
He was just a guy wanting her to STAND UP!! Be a force to be reckoned with, show them she was the key to her own Destiny, no one has control over her life. He was there to show her what it was like to truly live. Her mentor, her friend, her confidant.
She knew with him beside her she could handle any curveballs that were thrown her way. He was her reason for living, her anchor, her love.
But what if life's not all it seems? What if you're given a chance to really live, but then you're thrown a curveball that sets to shatter you to pieces.
Can you truly live without knowing all the things life has to offer?!
One of my favorite quotes about life is by Allan Rufus...
“Life is like a game of chess. To win you have to make a move. Knowing which move to make comes with IN-SIGHT and knowledge, and by learning the lessons that are acculated along the way.
We become each and every piece within the game called life!”
I totally believe that this is what happens throughout this book. Alannah Carbonneau first came to me with her Donnelly brothers series and i habe to say i fell in love with her writing that day, she truly knows how to capture your heart with her books and this just became one of my Top favorites.
You're going to want to download this when it's available!!!
Beautiful!! Beautiful!! Beautiful!! This story is sweet, passionate, tender, loving and heartbreaking. I was touched deeply by the story of Austin and Madison. It made me cry, but it also made me happy.
Madison is a sheltered girl from a loving family. Her parents are loving and over protective. Madison has been living the life they have carved out for her. She does not know how to tell them that she wants a different life. She is drowning in her fear. Then she meets Austin. He is the bad boy with long hair, tattoos and a motorcycle. Everything her parents are against; but looks can be deceiving. Austin is funny and free living. He has a secret. A secret that he knows will hurt Madison, but he wants to teach her to live.
This beautiful journey brings two people together; two people that need each other. As their relationship evolves, Madison discovers her true self (she blossoms) and Austin finds the love he wants to experience forever. I used up a lot of tissues, but despite the crying my heart was happy. I cannot get over how this story affected me. I am still thinking about it and going back to re-read.
His big hands were wide against my back, moving slowly up and down the naked length. “I want to be everything for you, Madison. I want to be the man you look at with trust and love and hope. Forever.”
I was provided with an ARC by the author in exchange for my honest review.
I never in a million years ever thought that one book could affect me the way this book did. I was on a personal rollercoaster with this book, it stirred so many old feelings that i had forgot about and brought new feelings to the surface for me. Yes I cried, but how profound to feel that a book, that words on a page can affect you so... Alannah's writing is so deep meaningful that i read this book in one sitting with a 3hr sleep from 3am-6am hahaha.
Madison Avery is a girl who does not know what is 'out there' she has been sheltered from so much, laughter, freedom and Life. She hasn't seen the world, she hasn't had that moment where she has made decisions for herself. She has routine, discipline day in day out. And decisions to make.....
Then she bumps in to Austin.. Black T Shirt jeans, tattoos and a Bike < my interest was piqued here!!! He see's something in her, he wants to show her everything she is missing in the world, he wants to show her what she is missing. Madison takes the leap and jumps on his bike and is taken on a journey which changes her and her life. With one question she asks him ''Teach Me To Live Austin''
But Austin has a secret, a secret that will change everything, and change Madison.. This book has so much emotion to it you will need tissues
Oh wow, I absolutely loved this story from start to finish. It totally drew me in and wouldn't let me go. It is the most beautiful love story, beautiful, sad, wonderful, heart felt....so much, just so very much. Madison Avery has been sheltered by her controlling parents, who want her to go to Uni to study law, but Maddison wants to be a writer, something her father totally disapproves of. While contemplating her life, she literally bumps into Austin Weir, a handsome, tattooed biker bad boy, where he writes his number on her hand and tells her to call him if she wants to learn how to live. First impressions are not always what they seem and once Maddison gets to know Austin she realised what a wonderful man he is. Will their romance blossom, can it, despite everything that life throws in their path? Well I am just going to let you find that out for yourself. This book is an emotional read, you will need tissues I warn you now, but it is so worth the tears. I lived every word of it; I was right there with them throughout their story. I loved Maddison's bravery for breaking free and doing what she wanted. I fell in love with Austin, he was so warm and caring, such a wonderful person. I honestly did not want this story to end and I highly recommend it, Alannah Carbonneau is a wonderful, empathetic writer, I love her stories but think this my just be my favourite.
Wow! This book was amazing, beautifully written and a beautiful story with so much emotion it had me hooked into the lives of these characters, Austin and Madison. Madison is a very innocent girl, living by what her parents want for her and not really by what she wants. That is until she meets Austin who helps her see that she needs to 'live' and not just 'exist'. Madison and Austin have an amazing instant connection, he helps her live and to smile and she helps him be happy, unbeknownst to her he sees her as his 'wish'. I had worked out from quite early in that there is something wrong with Austin but we don't actually find out what the problem is until half way through. I have to say it was heartbreaking to have it confirmed! I don't want to say too much because I don't want to spoil anything, this story should definitely be read and enjoyed without knowing what's going to happen! It was a beautiful story, a story of a beautiful love but will have you in tears too. I was crying for at least the last 10% of this book! I think first a book to do this it shows how well the author has written it and how well you get drawn into the story. All I can say is I absolutely loved this book! it had me completely enthralled in the cgaracters' lives and took me through many emotions! I highly recommend this read!! A definite huge 5* read!!
Wow, this book is amazing. I have read a few of Alannah Carbonneau's books and when I saw this one I didn't pay attention to what it was about. I just jumped into reading this one and words can't describe wow much I loved it. I started reading this one at night and definitely loss some sleep over it. I was writing my to do list for the next day and as I was writing my list I remember what my mom always says, "No one is ever promised tomorrow." So with that in mind I put down my list and started reading. When you read the story you'll know why that was a perfect statement to take into reading this book.
Madison does everything to please her parents. She's at the point where she is trying to figure out what she really wants. She meets Austin. Austin is sexy and tattooed. He is the type of person she stays away from. He sees through her and see the real her. He offers to teach her how to live. Seeing these two connect was great. Austin has a big game changing secret.
It's an emotional read. I rarely get teary eyed or cry at books. I have only cried during one book and got teary eyed during another one. This one has to go on that list now. I got teary eyed at one point and then shed some tears later on.
You should one click this one. It was well worth the tears and loss of sleep.
I've made no secret to the fact that I love Alannah Carbonneau. I have yet to read a book that she has written that I didn't like, and Teach Me To Live is no different. I loved this story.
Madison is the kind of girl that I can relate to. She always wanted to do what she thought would make others (her parents) happy, even at the risk of doing what she actually wanted herself. Mostly because she wasn't even sure what it was that she wanted or how to go about getting it. I can understand that because I have always been the same way. I've always played it safe, and now looking back there are times that I wish I had acted differently. Had more fun, and been a little crazy.
That's where Austin comes in for Madison. He's the guy that tries to live each day to the fullest and make the most out of life because you never know how long you are going to get that chance. He shows Madison that living life isn't all about keeping everyone else happy, but about making sure that you are happy too.
I don't want to give away spoilers, but I will say that this book wasn't exactly what I had expected, but I mean that in the best possible way. Because it was better than I could have thought. It made me happy and angry and sad and then right back to happy again. This is one of those rare books that covers all the bases, and deserves to be read and thoroughly enjoyed.
A solid five stars rating! I love heart breaking romance novels and this one definitely fits the bill. Without ruining this great story I'll try to give as little away as possible. Austin and Maddy, young loves who found each other and learned that loving and living is what life is about. Life is a precious thing that should not be taken lightly or for granted. You'll fall in love with Austin, your heart will break along with Maddy, and after reading this you'll want to just hold your love ones and cherish every moment. I loved the whole storyline even though I felt at times Austin was being selfish but as I kept reading, I understood where he was coming from. This novel was sweet, full of life lessons, plenty of sappy love, heartache and more. If you don't mind shedding a few tears, feelings emotionally broken but feeling love at the same time then I would highly recommend this for a read.
Oh my word!!!!!! I really need a heart hug after I've finished this book!!! I've cried so damn heart but this book and Austin will stay with me forever!!!! Not only is it the most beautiful book and story but it teaches you about life and how short life can be!!!! It teaches you to LIFE no matter what live each day as if it's your last!!!! This story was so close to home for me that I truly felt every emotion!!!! It touched me in ways I can't describe, but all I can say is that I hope everyone in this world would read this book and take something out of it and live your life to the fullest!!!!! Thank you Alannah for giving us this beautiful beautiful story!!!! Sending you a heart hug!!!!
This book was devastatingly beautiful. I'm not typically one to read gut wrenching stories, I've always preferred the HEA, which in life is unrealistic. This book will cause you great pin but it's an amazing read and makes you reevaluate your own life. Great job, Alannah.
