Cin Wikkid lost her mother at an early age and being left alone with a daughter to raise Cin's father remarried rather quickly to a woman who had her own two daughters of her own that she spoiled. When Cin's father also passed away her stepmother began to treat her as a servant instead of a daughter. She was expected to clean and cook and do whatever was asked while her stepsisters did nothing.

Cin has gotten herself a job at a sandwich shop and taken online courses trying to get her degree in accounting all the while taking care of her stepmother and stepsisters. Cin only wants to land a good job to be able to get her a place of her own but when she begins to struggle in one of her last classes she meets a tutor named Rafe who shows her the first bits of happiness she's known in years.

Cin Wikkid is a modern adult retelling of the classic Cinderella with just a slightly different new take on the story. The story has been brought into this century with all the mannerisms, modern technology and the nature of the relationship developing between Cin and the Prince, there is sex involved so definitely not a tale for children.

I found the story a fun and fresh take on Cinderella. All the classic elements are there but with a modern twist to it all. Cin was a lovely character just trying to be her best as her mother had instilled in her as a child. She works hard and actually wants to help her stepsisters no matter how they've treated her, a good person overall and easily likable.

Overall, a cute but yet adult version that was a quick read at novella length.

I'm sorry to say but,...I'm just not feeling anything.

It's a short fairytale for grown up...I get that but,...just, there is huge BUT...Sorry!!!
If this was just erotic, quick "humpy-dumpy" between Cinderella and Prince I'll be happy...
If this was something completely new, even without "horizontal waltz", I'll be ok with that too...

Here goes BUT...
This is a just the same story in the new time period, with just hint of sex and for me not so believable romance. I didn't like either one of the main characters and I'm really sorry because of that.

The writing isn't bad and I personally think that anyone who go through the trouble of "book writing" deserve more than one star.
Maybe it's just me, maybe I read it at the wrong time...

This is a very modern day take on the classic Cinderella fairytale. Just about everything is brought up to date in this version, with Cin being treated like a servant by her Stepmother and two stepsisters. Cin is hardworking to the point of running their home and having a job at a local sandwich store whilst also secretly studying for a degree in accounting. She’s struggling on one aspect of the course and seeks help helped from a peer tutor, Rafe Montoya. Little does she know that he’s really Gideon Prince . . . .

With jobs galore to get done, Cin struggles to cope with all the pressures on her but still maintains a relatively positive attitude, especially as her relationship with Rafe starts making great progress but there just has to be a but, doesn’t there? What will happen when she discovers his deception? He’s to choose his bride at his birthday ball, will Cin even be going? There’s going to be a test, too, will she be able to solve it?

This story involves online tutoring, texts, tablets and troubles galore as Cin and Rafe/Gideon get to know each other. With a wicked Mrs Wikkid as the stepmother determined to help her two girls win every prize, Cin tries to get away by telling a few lies. This time she’s no sweet innocent child and the temperature does rise considerably when the two are together, a totally modern take on the old classic, definitely an adult version and not for children! In this story, too, it is the Prince who is the mystery person rather than Cinderella so this is definitely a modern twist on the old classic story.

This quick read is a humorous, light and easy read, just right for when you want a somewhat steamy short romance to read by a talented author who writes in a witty, fresh and fun manner that keeps the reader turning the pages.

Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book - it is a fresh take on the Cinderella story - only our Cin is a sandwich girl who lives with her evil stepmother and stepsisters as she toils away on an accounting degree. Chance leads her to Rafe who tutors her in her classes. What follows is a fun take on Cinderella that has our Cin struggling to do the right thing and stay true to her heart despite all the obstacles in her way.

This book made me smile and was a delightful afternoon's escape. If you are looking for a fun read, you have found it in this book. Just a note of warning, while based on a fairy tale, this is very much a grown up tale and not for younger readers.

What a cute retelling of Cinderella with a twist!

This time it isn't Cinderella, or Cin, who is the one hiding. It's Prince Charming, or Gideon Prince. Gideon needs to marry by his 24th birthday, so he is having a Glass Slipper Ball to find a wife. What he doesn't expect is to meet Cin Wikkid before the ball and fall in love with her; all the while using his alter-ego, Rafe Montoya. Sadly, he must still go through with the ball and he encourages her to attend, even going so far as to suggest she marry Gideon. It was touch and go for a hot second, not knowing if Cin would say yes or no, but it is a fairy tale, so you can GUESS what she said LOL

This was a quick and easy read that left me with a smile on my face.

Kitty's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

Well, welcome to Cinderella in the 21st Century. Cell Phones, tablets, lattes and a glass slipper. No, this is not your Bibbity Bobbity Boo Cinderella story because there is no way the Prince Charming I remember would dare to even try to seduce Cinderella.

It’s really hard to review a classic story as Cinderella. What can I honestly say about the story that hasn’t already been said? So, I guess I have to review the author instead.

I adore Mary Hughes. I love how she took a sweet, sentimental story and turned it into sexy, hot story. I loved how she switched things up with our Prince and made him into a regular man just looking for the woman that would love him for himself and not his position in life or money. She interspersed humor throughout the story and then gave us the serious side. The “fairy godmother” was not what I expected and could not have been any further from what we would envision. The step-mother and step-sisters didn’t change much … why would you want to change them, anyway?

But, the stars of the story were definitely Cin and Rafe/Gideon. Cin was a hoot … sneaking around, keeping a tablet in her bra, and, she worked in a Sub shop? And, our Prince Charming disguising himself and working as a tutor? They were both so far off of what we think of when even saying the name Cinderella that you couldn’t help but be amazed at how wonderful Mary Hughes’ imagination is. But, the night of the Ball really blew me out of the water. Believe me, there was no Lesley Ann Warren and Stuart Damon dancing to “Ten Minutes Ago” around the fountain … it was more like, oh, Anastasia and Christian on a rainy Seattle night.

So, again, Mary Hughes made me smile. Her writing is witty and fun. Cin Wikkid proves that she can really turn just about any story into something hot, fresh and enjoyable. I don’t think I have ever read a classic about love at first sight and thought of how it would be if turned into an Adult story. But, I guess Mary Hughes has.

I was a bit excited going into this book, who hasn't heard or read Cinderella in some form or fashion while growing up? And the fact that this version is all modernized for the 21st century, complete with smartphones and tablets and social media? Even better.

For the most part, this version stays true to the classic story, with both of Cin's parents long since dead and she is at the mercy of her stepmother and two stepsisters (the Steps as they are referred to), only now Cin has a plan to finally get away from the hell she calls home by getting an accounting job with Prince Industries, if she can only pass her tax accounting class. Enter Rafe Montoya, who offers to help tutor Cin. The more time they spend together, the more her feelings for Rafe develop, until he starts to push her to attend the Prince's birthday ball.

I was enjoying this story, until the story reached the part at the birthday ball and everything that happened after. I just couldn't get with the Prince's/Rafe's interchangeable feelings when he was with Cin, even behind closed doors. I understand why he made the decision, I found it somewhat admirable, but why did he have to sacrifice his happiness to that extent? For the love of all that's holy, why did the Steps come live with them at the end? That served no purpose (to me anyway). And my heavens, it took him 5 years to finally admit his feelings for Cin?

While I didn't love this book, I didn't hate it, I just wish it had been longer so the characters could have been more developed and we could have a more in-depth story.

Cin was studying to get her accounting degree and she was failing her tax accounting tax then she got a tutor Rafe on line. Prince Industries was having a ball As Gideon had to be married by his 24th birthday The ball was so Gideon could choose a bride as he was heir to Prince Industries. The ball was to be April first which wasn’t too far away. The had been an invitation in the newspaper for every single woman could attend. As long as Cin graduated she hoped to be an intern at Prince Industries. As Time goes on Cin’s tutor Rafe takes a more personal tone when texting her. He also seems to know what was on her mind as if he could read it. Cin is starting to care a lot for Rafe.
I always loved the Cinderella story and most stories with that plot. This was no different well written of course good plot but there was also unexpected things that happens throughout the story but it was all for the good. I adored the characters especially Cin and all the twists and turns she goes through. Also the story has a lot of twists and turns like how Cin worried about helping her step sister so she could graduate also Cin saying no.A great twist on a old wonderful fairy tale. I loved it. I highly recommend.

This was a very fun, semi-clean read that did a spin on the Cinderella story.
Cin father remarried and along with that marriage came step-sisters. Which they never got along and her father was always working so much was missed by him. Later her father dies leaving they needing money. Cin Step-mom pretty much locked her up in the attic until Cin was able to convince her that she could get a job and earn money. Then Cin slowly starts to work toward get a education and becoming something. Cin online class she end up meeting Rafe. Rafe is to help her with learning more so that she can get a job at Prince Industries. Cin doesn't know he is really Gideon Prince, head of Prince Industries. Cin starts to meet Rafe for tutoring and he starts trying to talk her into going to the Prince Industries to try to win the "Prince" who is to pick a wife at the ball. Cin is confused as she thought they were hitting it off.. now he wants her to try to marry someone else.

Sometimes I need something super fluffy- but this was beyond me. The epilogue was probably the worst- the steps, and the fact it took him 5 years to say I love you? Nope.

Review:
April Fools, this was a cute modern adaptation of the classic Cinderella story. I loved the plot. Cinderella trying to better her station in life by not only working at a sandwich shop, but taking classes as well as the work that her step mother makes her do at home. She is not looking for the prince to save her by marrying her. She just wants an accounting job at Prince Industries so she can survive on her own. Struggling with her final class to get her degree, Cin gets help from the class tutor, Rafe whose kindness and charm has her falling for him. Gideon Prince, head of Prince Industries is throwing a ball in search of a wife. He must marry by his 24th birthday or lose his family fortune on April 1st. Cin has no desire to go, but for some reason Rafe wants her to be there.
I did not feel the strong chemistry between the two main characters, maybe because I didn’t love this particular prince. This is a short story and it did move along quickly. The ending left me with a “really?” I can’t tell you why because that would ruin the ending. I did enjoy reading this story. I liked this strong Cinderella who never let her circumstances detract from her goals or her ability to see good in others.

Cin Wikkid by Mary Hughes was just released yesterday, March 18th. I love reading modernized versions of fairy tales, even these short fun releases. It’s fun to see what the author changes and/or improves upon. In this one, it’s bringing Cinderella up to date on technology and adding in some elements of feminism. Cin Wikkid is also not as innocent as the original.
In this re-telling, Cin Wikkid has the same elements of the wicked stepsisters, the hard work, and the upcoming ball. However, in addition to the housework, Cin is also working an outside job (with a cover story of bringing money to the household) and taking online courses at the local college.
During one of her classes, she requests for tutoring as she’s not doing well. She gets assigned Rafe, a scarred, sexy male, and they start a relationship. Later, he tells her to attend Gideon Prince’s (of Prince Industries) marriage ball. She’s confused – if they’re together, why would he want her to line up for the chance to be Gideon Prince’s wife? Of course, Rafe is really Gideon with a prosthetic scar and cheek padding and he needs to get married in order to inherit his family’s fortune.
Overall, I love Cin’s character. She has a survivor attitude with self-assurance that is rooted from the belief the hard work will pay off. Instead of “someday my prince will come”, it’s “one day I will earn a degree, get a good job, and afford rent to move out.” I also love how it follows the theme of the original, but there are empowering reasons for why things are happening. For example, she does leave the ball at a certain time – but it’s not because everything will turn back into a pumpkin and her ball gown will become rags, it’s because she makes a choice to leave.
This is a quick read that you can probably finish in less than an hour. It’s a creative twist to an old story and it pulls you in. A perfect to read on your tablet at the neighborhood park, trying to hide from family members who want you to do more chores.

This short romantic novella is a contemporary fairytale retelling of the classic Cinderella story. In this retelling, Cinderella lives with her evil stepmother (the Widow Wikkid) and bratty stepsisters... as she studies to be an accountant? She has only a low paying job at a sandwich shop, and dreams of something bigger and better, like a high paying job working at Prince Industries. To get the job, she needs to finish her studies, and she can't seem to wrap her mind around it, so she gets in touch with her online tutor... and promptly falls in love with him. But when he suggests that she goes to a ball held by Prince Industries so that the heir to the empire, Gideon Prince, can choose his bride, Cinderella thinks that he must not love her in return, and her heart breaks. Will she ever find true love?

I really wanted to like this book. I mean, by the description, it sounds like the perfect light and fluffy chick flick. And the beginning of the book, and even the rather predictable end of it, lived up to these expectations. But other than the beginning and the very end, the book was a very sleazy, very trashy romance that had me skipping whole chapters because it was so crude and ungodly. The writing style is as if the author was writing for older children or young adults, but the content itself is completely inappropriate. The only reason I managed to finish the book at all was because it was mercifully short. And even then, I almost didn't finish it. I'm giving it two stars instead of one, however, because the main premise of the story is cute, and because I like the author's sense of humor scattered throughout. But I wouldn't read this book again, and overall, I was quite disappointed.

Judging a Book by it's Cover:
A Glass slipper front an center. Synopsis sounds a bit goofy, but a lot of fun, too.

Looking Deeper:
Third-person POV.
A modern twist on the classic Cinderella tale. This short story portrays Cinderella in pretty-much the classic role of orphan that becomes slave labor by the evil steps. Rafe is a fresher twist. Tired of people liking him for his looks, money, or title, he takes on an alternate identity which volunteers to tutor Cin in the one class threatening to stand between her and her degree. Their chemistry grows gradually but steadily. I wish Cin would have shown a little more backbone. The secondary characters are stereotypical and cliche'. Dialogue was good, interaction as expected for a tale such as this. The plot was a little funner than the old standard and it flowed well. The conflict should not have been such an obstacle, but Cin was just too kind-hearted and came off as weak and submissive. Rafe needed to provide better communication. In the end, all is resolved. There are a few very minor surprise twists thrown in, but nothing earth shattering. Conclusion is solid enough to be satisfying.

Loved it! It’s not the classic story. Cin’s mother passed away when she was young. Her father remarried. The second Mrs. Wikkid is the mean step mother, who has 2 daughters. Cin’s step mother wasn’t too bad before her father passed away. That’s when the step mother and two step sisters start truly acting like the classic story tells it. They make Cin do all of the cleaning and cooking. But, Cin manages to get into school to get her accounting degree. Rafe, aka Prince Gideon, is her tutor. Cin doesn’t know he’s the Prince. They do have some steamy tutoring sessions. Until it comes time for the Glass Slipper Ball, where Prince Gideon is supposed to choose his bride, unbeknownst to Cin. This is where things start to change for Cin and Rafe. You need to read this book to find out what happens, what twists lie ahead for Cin. This story was so well written and the characters were portrayed in a manner that just draws you in. It’s a very interesting portrayal of the classic story turned modern. I would recommend this book to everyone. The author keeps your attention throughout the book. You want to keep reading to see what strange and somewhat funny things happen. A great romance.

Ha, what a fun ride!

Mostly light and fluffy, but with a surprising depth to the characters. I saw the Rafe thing from the beginning, of course, but it still had surprises.

The sexiness was interesting. At first, I was wondering if this was more on the erotica side, but it's sweeter than that and the level of detail felt just right.

I appreciated that it was basically the classic Cinderella story in reverse. Instead of Cinderella being the mystery, the "Prince" was the mystery for Cinderella to figure out. Also enjoyed that Rafe was the one needing to convince her that he was worthy, and that the "Happily Ever After" wasn't that Cin would be rich and a "Princess". I imagine Princess Kate has quite a few grievances with her lifestyle change, which is something rarely acknowledged in "Princess stories."

All of the fairytale references were fun, both the Disney and the Brother's Grimm versions, and added a whimsy that I thought was perfect.

Very quick read at 120 pages. Would be a great pool or coffee shop (or park? ;) ) read.

I fell in love with this author with her Biting Love series.
I am in the minority here. I thought the book was ok. The remake of Cinderella for modern times. I love the Cinderella fairytale. This remake was not what I hoped for. The story had its moments I think my favorite part was the adventure of Cin getting to and arriving at the ball. That was funny. I can picture the big dress and the mishaps. I didn't get into Cin's self sacrificing character. She was just a little too giving for me. I wish the story was a little longer. there was not enough time for her and Rafe to really connect.

This is a modern spin on an old fairy tale. Oh come on you knew that. But this is not your childs fairy tale. This is for adults and it is a fun read for any fan of romance novels.

Cin Wikkid is a quick read but enjoyable. I thought Cin was sweet and yet a strong woman who knows the way she was raised and is not afraid to be that woman. Pick it up. You won’t regret it.

An absolutely adorable update of Cinderella. This 21st century take on the fairy tale is done really creatively & the author takes the reader on a exciting journey as she explores the love of Cin & Rafe. And I loved how the author worked in the glass slipper, such a cool twist.

Such a well written adult version, modern day fairy tale! Loved the twists and turns of this story. The characters are terrific and add so much to the story. Mary Hughes has taken Cinderella and made it into a hot and steamy tale that will have you flying through the pages to see what happens. I enjoyed this so much and will definitely be reading this one again and maybe sharing with my daughter...........my 24-year-old daughter! Nice to have fairy tales for adults!

The word before the prologue (what do you call that?) is just so adorable! I’m an aspiring writer myself and introducing the introduction is often hard for me. Author Mary really really slew it!

I so love Cin’s character. She’s this green-minded girl who sought innuendos in the simplest words. When Rafe and Cin met, I was like ‘Go girl!’ and when they *spoiler censored* I was like ‘Omigod! Go! Go! Go!’

Loved this story.

You have your modern day Cinderella who is about to meet her Prince in disguise.

Plus, you'll love the grand ball. I'd like to tell you all about her ball gown, but where's the fun in that.

If you love your fairy tales, then definitely check out his fun filled story.
