A knight with wanderlust finds a home in the most unexpected of places.... 1236 A.D. - Daniel de Lohr, son of David de Lohr (STEELHEART, RISE OF THE DEFENDER, ARCHANGEL, UNENDING LOVE), is a highly trained knight of the highest order from one of the finest families in England. But he is also a wanderer, a gypsy, who prefers to travel rather than be tied down to one castle, one lord, or even one woman. He loves his vagabond lifestyle, much to the distress of his parents, who wish he would settle down. But Daniel’s wandering ways come to a stop when he comes across a young boy running for his life across the Yorkshire moors. In that instant, Daniel’s life changes forever. Saving the child from the man who is chasing him, Daniel returns the boy home. The child’s home is a fortress known as SHADOWMOOR, a desolate and derelict place harboring a cavalcade of dark and tragic secrets. Among those secrets, the once-proud Saxon fortress is now forced into poverty by a local lord who covets both the castle and the young boy’s sister. When Daniel first lays his eyes upon Lady Liselotte l’Audacieux, he immediately understands the wicked lord’s obsession. A tall woman with hair the color of bronze, Liselotte is a fine beauty. But she is trapped in a terrible situation. As Daniel comes to know her and understand her strife, he vows to help the woman and her family fight off the wicked lord. But his determination does not come without a price; the once-wandering knight is now a champion for the persecuted of Shadowmoor and his admiration for Liselotte quickly turns to love. He is tied to her whether or not he wants to be, and the coming battle, and the odds against him, are staggering. Calling upon his father and his uncle, Christopher de Lohr (RISE OF THE DEFENDER), for assistance, it is fight… or die. Can Daniel return Shadowoor to its former glory? Can Liselotte’s love tame the wanderer? Enter the world of Daniel and Liselotte to find out what the glory of love really means. I wish I could give more stars than 5 because this is truly a wonderfully gifted author. Loved this book from beginning to the end. Daniel was a truly wonderful Knight and lisselotte was a wonderful brave heroine. Recommended and not to be missed.
Oh WOW! This was really, really good! I could not put this book down. Actually, I was pretty much a nervous wreck reading it. The suspense kept building and you never knew when that proverbial hammer was going to fall. That threat and fear that was there from the beginning kept me turning the pages wondering when the villain was going to rear his ugly, disgusting head or what his latest machination was going to be. All the while, I was enchanted by the ever growing, sweet romance between Daniel de Lohr, the oh so charming son of David de Lohr ("Steelheart") and the lovely Liselotte l’Audacieux, the incredibly strong, brave woman who is struggling with her family to survive incredible deprivations and strife. Oh yes, this was a really good one!
I don't know how Kathryn Le Veque keeps coming up with these incredible story lines that never fail to grab me and elicit so many different emotions from me. Or, how this talented author makes me want to go right back to the beginning of the book to read it again right after I have finished it. I do know that I never want her to stop. When is the next book?
While waiting for the next new Kathryn Le Veque book, I'm going back to re-read "Unending Love," where our hero, Daniel de Lohr, plays a prominent role in Maddoc du Bois' love story. I thought it was not only fitting but appropriate that Maddoc du Bois appeared in Daniel's book! Turnabout is fair play, Daniel. ;)
I first came upon Daniel de Lohr as a secondary character in Unending Love. I had hoped he would get his own story. Therefore, I was thrilled with Shadowmoor!
Daniel is such a charming and vivacious bachelor knight...yes a bachelor Knight who does not want commitment. He is the son of Sir David de Lohr and the nephew of the legendary Christopher de Lohr. He never settles in any one place...he wanders from place to place. He comes across a boy who is running from someone and Daniel intervenes to help him. He ends up escorting the lad to the castle he lives in...Shadowmoor. There he comes across a very bleak scenario and a very beautiful maiden.
Lady Liselotte l’Audacieux lives in her family castle and all of her people are practically starving and her little brother has been kidnapped. She feels their entire scenario is her fault. Then her father informs her that a knight has saved Gunnar. She is taken with the Knight's kindness. Has God sent them a Savior!
This story was very enjoyable and it was good to revisit a lot of the other characters such as Maddoc du Bois, Emilee, David, and Christopher de Lohr.
This is a tale about opening one's heart to love and happiness. Sir Daniel de Lohr, from the de Lohr dynasty is the apple of his father's eye. Handsome, friendly, charming, chivalric, a true hero. He rescues the l’Audacieux family from a ruthless villain and once he meets the Lady Liselotte l'Audacieux, he can't help but start to fall for her. She is not only beautiful, but brave, honest, intelligent and strong. An unusual woman, who starts to pull at his wandering heart. She falls in love with him, but can he open his heart to her, he wants to, but he is frightened to give in. This story is filled with humour, emotion, heroics and romance. Kathryn works her usual wizardry to show how desperate these times were, and it is the way she develops these characters that is so enchanting. Christopher and David de Lohr, Sir Maddoc all re-appear in this adventure and they certainly add to this wonderfully dark tale. But it is the emotion and relationships that I really loved. Daniel and his father David's close bond is so heart warming and the ending really moved me too. What a hit this book is!!
Sir Daniel de Lohr likes to wander from castle to castle, sometimes earning money for his skills. Coming from such a well known family he is generally welcomed everywhere. When a child is in danger it's second nature to him to step in and help. This time our hero might have bitten off more than he can chew.
Lady Liselotte l'Audacieux is the daughter of the Lord of Shadowmoor, and believes she is the reason for the castle's troubles. The whole of Shadowmoor is on the edge of starvation. Our heroine is brave and strong, but there is only so much she can do.
This is a great story that is very different from most set in this era. There are several battles and lots of emotion. You will see some old friends from previous books and one has a strong connection to this one.
How I missed reading this book for so many years, I don't know. Maybe it's time I double checked what's on my Kindle. I might have some more great ones I've bought and forgotten about.
I buy every book this author writes without even reading the blurbs, because she never disappoints.
I would have liked to know what they told Henry though.
Daniel is the only son of David de Lohr and his heir. He is also a wanderer and a bit of a rake. But he is also compassionate and helps others in need. Liselatte is the only daughter of the lord of Shadowmore. She is quite beautiful and has captured the unwanted attention of Lord Bradley who will do anything to have her and her fathers castle and lands. That includes starving them out, burning their crops, killing their livestock, and kidnapping the youngest son and bribing the oldest son to kill his own father. Then Daniel arrives to save the day. This is a great adventure with ups and downs and twists. My only complaint about this book is that it is in the wrong order in the series. This book falls before Maddoc’s story but it should be after it. Fortunately, I read Maddocs story first and that makes much of Daniels story make sense.
Many quirky, funny moments. Somewhat original plot twists. Overall it was entertaining and a good effort towards one of my favorite characters from previous books, Daniel de Lohr. He really does seem like a chip off the old David de Lohr block.
Only drawbacks for me: some serious items were left unresolved/unanswered like ...
5 STARS, MEDIEVAL HISTORICAL ROMANCE ERA ADVENTURE DRAMA
Book 4 in an intriguing interesting adventure that delights, awes, & keeps your interest stimulated with the ongoing action of the times.
A de Lone Knight, Daniel & Liselotta had a romance that is a little different than the others. She is defended from the old Saxon royalty that had ruled that part of England before the Normans took over & had been allowed to retain some lands, road tolls, and a very old keep fortress that had been passed down thru the ages.
Kathryn Le Veque always gives a well-written storyline full of action and suspense to pass away a few hours, and I'm never disappointed. Shadowmoor offers just such a story. The hero knight was very chivalrous, smart, and good-natured. He was everything you expected from a true knight of old and I was not disappointed in the outcome. The story flowed well and kept me interested from start to finish. I find that I always become invested in the characters and can't wait to hear the outcome. Brad Wills does a wonderful job with the narration and brings each character to life.
Liselotte lived at Shadowmoor castle with her parents and two brothers. Lord Bramley who was as he said a nephew to the king decided he wanted Shadowmoor and Liselotte. He burned their crops and killed their livestock and forced them to stay inside Shadowmoor bringing them to starvation. He then kidnaps Gunnar her younger brother trying to bargain a trade for Shadowmoor and Liselotte for his bride. Gunnar escapes and runs into Daniel deLohr as he tries to get home. Daniel becomes their knight in shining armour.
I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title.
From the rescue of a young boy, Daniel, the wandering son of David De Lohr, finds a situation his knightly ethics would not allow him to walk away from. Therefore, he becomes involved in a power struggle with a relation of the king. His solution is radical, but the tale is completely enthralling.
What an interesting and informative novel. The de Lohr Family saga continues. This is such amazing and romantic read. The action, adventure, and romance, will literally sweep the reader into the story. Daniel and Leese do have a love 💘 that is believable and everlasting. A remarkable read.
This is a story filled with unexpected events. The characters are all compelling, some by their dastardly deeds and compunctions, some by their redeemable faults, some by their fortitude, however all bring something special to this tale of gallantry. Finishing this book compelled me to look for the next de Lohr book in the series.
An extremely rocky gray moor and everything in and around it. It's a hard life the inhabitants are slowly being starved out so a bad k right can get the lady and the castle. Another great book by Kathryn. Read this great story and get into it so you can see what all happens.
Book 4 of the de Lohr Dynasty is a little slow of action and in romance. Daniel de Lohr, only son of David de Lohr,, is main character. A previos book in this series said David has 2 or 3 sons( not quite sure but definitely more than one). Inconsistent!
Kathryn has away of bringing her characters to life, and she didn't fail here! You can feel the desperation of the people of shadow Moore. And the struggle Daniel has with his feelings. Just an awesome book.
Daniel de Lohr, son of David Dr Lohr has fought many battles across England. He is a wandering warrior and the finest knight. The battle at Shadowmoor is a final war for not only the lands but for Liselotte I'Audacieux's heart.
This is Daniel and Leese’s story. Daniel is David de Lhor’s son. Daniel is a wanderer and fun loving knight that is true to his knighthood. He happens upon those needing help and answers the call. This was a wonderful story. I enjoyed it greatly.
Shadow moor is one of my favorites. The story was very good and I liked the main characters, I liked all the characters including the bad guys. I love when I read a good book and only have to see or hear the title to remember what the book was about.
4 1/2 STARS A care free, but noble knight from the house of de Lohr comes to the rescue of a young boy. This is the beginning of Daniels story... a charming rogue who finally loses his heart. ****
Again another great story. Both with happiness and a little sadness. I’m very addicted to you books. The characters are almost real,I love them all. Thank you
