When The Exorcist meets The Walking Dead …

Lenton, Massachusetts. Once a charming little community serving as a pit stop for New England tourists. Now it’s a town gone mad. Mass murders occur on the streets. Friends and neighbors tear each other apart for the sheer sadistic joy of it. Those overcome by the insanity speak with an eerie clairvoyance, taunting their victims by exposing their darkest secrets. Stranger still are the black holes that have appeared throughout town, gateways into a mysterious world of pain and misery.

Five unlikely survivors (plus one fierce dog with the heart of a lion) come together to uncover the truth behind Lenton’s descent into chaos. A lonely housewife, a nerdy teenager, a mild-mannered Web designer, a criminal on the run, and a Catholic priest. With the infected townspeople hunting them at every turn, time is running out.

Filled with bizarre and disturbing scenes, THE MANY is the first book in the apocalyptic series THE END IS NIGH.

Receiving a request to review this book out of the blue, I jumped into The Many with little idea of what expect other than it was the first in a series and it promised to be scary. And The Many delivered handsomely. A supernatural horror, The Many draws inspiration from a number of pop culture quarters - the slasher horror films of the 1980's, a little bit of the Exorcist and the zombie survival genre made famous by the likes of World War Z.

Joe Stone brings these together into a kinetic, truly terrifying and, at times, disturbing narrative set within an idyllic New England town that suddenly goes to hell in a hand basket - literally. Through the chaos Stone brings together six disparate characters who have no previous association with one another and forces them to work together for their very survival. They are a surprisingly appealing team, challenged by the hellish nightmare that threatens them. When Satan presents himself, he goads each of them with their own private 'sins' yet each of them are able to put them aside in the face of something that is far greater than themselves.

Stone creates scenes of crackling tension, guttural violence and, surprisingly, moments of quiet reflection that lift this novel up from being a generic slasher fest, offering the reader something that is thought provoking. Readers are warned however that it is, at times, particularly violent so I would not recommend it for the faint hearted.

The Many is the first in a series and it sets the reader up for a sequel that has a lot of potential.

I'm in for the ride.

This book is AMAZING. It is rare that I am given a free copy of a book in exchange for an honest review and finish it in a matter of hours, but I did exactly that with The Many by Joe Stone! I could not put this book down! Right from the first twisted encounter with the creepy smiling "people," I was hooked! Just who, exactly, is Lewis Parsons?

This book is what would happen if The Stand and The Walking Dead got together and had a baby on some hardcore LSD. It takes the supernatural thriller to a new extreme, and I, for one, CANNOT wait for whatever comes next!

Added note: I LOVE that this book is set in Massachusetts (even if Lenton is a ficticious town), and was SO EXCITED to know that Amy, Jason, and Duke attempted to get to the real town of Attleboro, since I grew up there! Ha ha, I know, nothing to do with my actual review, but I just had to mention it!

Lookout Lenton!
No one really knows what is going on in this poor town located in Massachusetts…big changes are happening though, and they’re definitely not all good. Can Father Moore help? I was going out of my mind with curiosity for this town and these people.
I don’t want to say too much in fear of spoilers so I will just say: there is something for almost any horror lover here. Terror, supernatural ideals, violence, sex, fast paced and suspenseful. Also, a lot of potential for the rest of this series. So glad I got the opportunity to read this and I recommend to all fans of modern horror. Bring it on Stone!

The end of the world?

A diverse set of characters in a small town with weird things beginning to happen. I can handle zombies so much better than demons. But demons are what we have. And some really descriptive ones too!
A good storyline never wavering. Hope to read the next one soon...Faith...
