Second Chance to Live

Rate this book
Navigating along life's crooked line we are naturally touched by the people we meet and most will experience love and death and everything in between. This is a great read for both sexes. A powerful, erotic and thrilling love story with a psychological twist about a man and a woman in their mid forties who meet on an Internet Dating site. He enters her cottage through a purple door, a door he has painted from afar and once through he gets why she decided on purple. A memorable night of heightened sexual pleasure ensues, lasagne and tiramisu in between and deep, yes very deep conversations. The attraction quickly transpires into an emotional connection and before too long they each unlock buried memories of past events, memories neither expected to share with someone they had just met. But it's clear from the onset they need each other; they need to share their stories to move on in life, a 'Second Chance to Live.' Was this fortuitous happenstance beginning with a click of a keyboard or destiny found? Love at first sight perhaps, if such a thing really exists, who knows, I shall let you decide but I do warn you; things are not what they seem as we discover more about their chequered past, a past hell bent on revenge.

The title of Rosco Kearns's Second Chance to Live pretty much speaks for itself. The story revolves around two nameless (a clever decision there, Roscoe) individuals who share a sordid past, aimless present and foggy future. However when Fate intervenes and brings them together, the baggage of their pasts seems lighter than ever, the present bright and cheerful and future, full of lovely promises. Through a series of snaky twists and turns, we see the hero and heroine realize the true meaning of their existence on Earth. Time and again, the author has forced us to think about different lives being led by the same people in parallel universes. If in one life, you live the life of a loner, then in a an alternate universe you could be a party animal.

How many times have we stopped to think about the possible different paths that lay before us, promising to take us on two very different journeys, based on the decisions we take?

The author has beautifully explained the Paradox called 'splitting' which illustrates the phenomenon of every decision having two potential outcomes. Of course, out of those we can only select one. But the story here will make you ask yourself, 'WHAT-IF' I'd chosen the other option?

The writing is rich, compelling and strong. I especially like the steady pace at which the story moves. There is no rush to get to the end. Every moment deserves to be savored and relished before giving way to the next big revelation.

Long story short, It's a job well done! I wouldn't miss this thought-provoking novel guys!

This was my first book to read by Roscoe T. Kearns. Had no idea going into this book that it was his first book to write. The writing, leaves no questions unanswered. Very detailed and written flawlessly as if he had written numerous books before. With that being said, I would definitely recommend this author to others. You can tell that a lot of work and research went in to writing this one!

This is a story of two individuals who are nameless throughout the entire book. They are in their 40’s and both going through life needing something more. Something to give them a reason to wake up each morning. One a reporter doing freelance work and one an architect. This story takes us on a journey in which they find each other and we live through them opening to each other. Both having back stories, both having a hard time telling anyone of them. But together, they find they mold and are just right for each other to open and let it all out.

Along with them finding each other, there is also something lurking in the background of the story that throws a pretty tough punch. One that had me thinking that the story was going to turn into a unimaginable direction!

Great job, Roscoe T. Kearns on your debut book! Will definitely keep an eye open for more of your work.

I am so happy I stumbled upon this book! I have never read a book like this, the characters are nameless and the story allows you to just imagine who these two lovers could actually be, it could be your neighbor, your postmaster or heck it could be you on this journey. I highly recommend this book and I am looking forward to other books this author puts out there.

This books is what it's says 2 people having a second chance of love. I can't believe this is his first book it's so well written. I love the fact the lead characters don't have names, weird ... I know but it works. The story also has another story going on in the back ground and when it shows its self you're left thinking " what the hell have I just read" !!!!!!
Definitely worth reading

Never thought it reads differently than what I had in mind. This was so good. The writing, the story, characterization (nameless, pretty clever), and the chances. It was rich and thought-provoking. What a great read.

Second Chance to Live by Roscoe T. Kearns
Fate and destiny. Are you a believer? This is the first book by Roscoe Kearns and it is very unique. The book is written in first person and we don’t get the names of the main characters. Intriguing right? I thought so.
This book is all about fate and the role it plays in our lives. As we read we are flawlessly moved between the present and past of the characters’ lives. We are privileged to read about the lives of the characters in detail which provides insight to how they get to where they currently are. What circumstances have brought them to the current state. This book is a very deep thought provoking book that really could be an example of our very lives. Oh, and not to mention these characters are in their mid-forties……yes characters in my age group.
The female character in this book is a journalist that has never really found mister right due in part to her family life as a child. She was a world traveler and very good at her job. We learn about her upbringing and life choices that has made her the women she is.
The male character in this book is an architect that recently lost his wife (1 year ago). He is in a dark place and feeling helplessly lost. In one moment his decision to take his life back has him trying to claw his way out of the dark into the light of life. Like our female character we are privileged to understand his life from childhood to the tragedy of his wife’s passing and where he is currently.
It took me a while to get through this book but I’m glad that I stuck with it. The journey was well worth the wait. The amount of emotion and personal insight made this reader reflect on life and is there really anything to this fate thing. Mr. Kearns painted a very detailed account of current events that all readers can relate to while planting some seeds of curiosity into the possibility of alternative universes where the decision we don’t make play out. Do you take the road on the left or the right? Each have their own ending and journey. Fascinating.
If you are looking for a unique read I would highly recommend this book. It is a fascinating mix of emotions and hot sexy scenes that helped to make these characters believable.

Hmm. I find myself in a quandary over this book. For one thing, I am not sure why it made its way onto my wish list. I can only think I was looking for something a bit "different" that day. If that was the case then I certainly got what I asked for.

The premise behind the book is interesting enough, but sustaining that idea through 400 pages or more proved a little too much. In the book, Kearns questions the concept of fate and destiny which I found intriguing, but I found he laboured the point a little too much. It is about two people meeting by chance and immediately recognising a kindred spirit. Almost immediately they begin to unburden themselves, revealing their pasts and hidden secrets to someone who is, effectively a total stranger. Events in each of their pasts have set them on the path that ultimately leads to each other. And whilst I found their stories intriguing, the idea that they would tell each other these things on their second date I found very hard to swallow.

I have to say that although I found the writing itself to be generally very good, I did feel that the whole thing was overlong and in need of a good edit. There is a fair bit of repetition but for me, the biggest cuts would have to be the totally unnecessary erotic sex scenes. Don't get me wrong, I am no prude, but for me, they added nothing to the thrust of the story (no pun intended!).

One of the books most intriguing twists - and something I can't remember coming across before - is that we never know the names of the two characters, nor where they live. Whilst they openly talk about other people and places, they remain anonymous. Kearn's explains the reasoning for this in his prologue, he wanted to leave it to the reader to decide who these two people are.

Not a book I would recommend to friends, but it is interesting enough if you enjoy erotic fiction with a bit of a twist.

Second Chance to Live has a great premise. I was found that the author used character of a mature and respectable age as many of my readings tend to have the leads be in the age range of 16-30. So it did intrigue me that the author chose an older age bracket. I also loved the fact that our characters have no names. Literally our main characters have no name revealed throughout the book. Secondary characters are given names but the main male and female lead are left nameless.

I didn't feel much of a connection to any character in this book. They all came to be very mundane. I struggled to read this, while the word flowed seamlessly, the plot was very lackluster. Which was very surprising because the opening is very strong and hooked me. I kept pushing through because I was hoping for more, but more never came. While this is marketed as  thriller, I found no thrill in my read. Even the action packed scenes or more of the lack of action seemed dimmed down and came off as, well as just very BLAH to me.

The booked moved very slowly in the development of our characters and then escalated quickly within very passionate night in which the dialogue seemed forced and oddly scripted.

And the chequered past which was what I assumed was suppose to be an epic reveal twist, was not as epic of twist.

This book just didn't do it for me. I wanted to finish it quickly but I also wanted to put it down just as fast. Maybe the book just wasn't met for me.

Like the first author to ever become a favorite of mine years ago, Roscoe Kearns' story is based on the theory of multiverse. This is one of the many theories of Quantum Mechanics. This theory states that for every choice you make in this world an alternate you makes a different choice in a parallel universe.

This story is about two people who find each other through the dating site Second Chances. The man's wife had passed away and he was ready to find someone new thanks to the encouragement of his work partner.

She was a free-lance journalist and had never been married. After they met they realized they had met before in their youth. She had come to live there by the sea to get away from a stalker.

After meeting online and talking they decide to meet in person. They are drawn to each other as if by fate and feel comfortable enough with each other to share their stormy life stories. They quickly become intimate and their coupling is passionate and steamy like it was completely natural and meant to be.

The author brings us into their thoughts and feelings by writing from their point of view. They also deal with elements from their past and their is a moment of fear when faced with her stalker that brings them closer together. I absolutely loved this story and can't wait for his next book.

Wow. I really enjoyed this book!!
Roscoe Kearns let's us take a peek in to the lives of two nameless people, who through a life-path full of twists, turns, and heartbreak, find each other.

The book takes a slow and steady pace as the characters get to know one another. So many books are "insta-love" scenarios. That's great, but it's not really true to life is it? This book shows you a more realistic pace. They share a mutual attraction. They share stories about their past - personal, painful stories. There was no rush to get to the end, and I didn't want to rush it. I wanted to get to know these characters at their pace, not mine. I enjoyed their openness and their passion.

Reading about their stories, the decisions they've made, makes you really stop and think about how one choice (or not making a choice) can mold the rest of your life - the events, the people that cross your path, the love and the loss. It made me think of Robert Frost's "The Road Not Taken" - the path you choose can make all the difference.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone! We all deserve a second chance in life and in love!

This book wasn't something I would normally find myself reading but I was pleasantly surprised. The main characters in the book remain nameless throughout the story which implied that the story could really be about anyone, I thought that was a very cool idea. The main characters are in their 40's, and have had so many experiences in their lives that somehow led them to each other. We follow the male main character after he has experienced a painful loss and is having trouble coping. One day he decides to get his act together because he is just not happy and very lonely. He ends up, with some earlier encouragement from a friend, making an online dating profile and meeting a woman. They end up meeting in person and really getting to know each other. They have such a strong connection and as a reader you get to feel that. I was so impressed with the writing and everything just flowed so beautifully. This was overall a great romance along with suspense and mystery that I didn't see coming. Definitely a book I would recommend to friends and family.

Five stars!

Wow! I am not sure where to start with this review......I have literally just finished it and have so many feels right now!
I am a huge believer in fate and that things happening for a reason, that being said I would never trivialize the traumatic events that these two characters have experienced in their journey to get to where they are at this point. My heart shattered for both of them, any one of those experiences would be enough for anybody.
I love Second Chance Love stories....but this was so much more! From the outset I connected with both characters and as an incurable romantic hoped they would get their HEA.
I thought I knew where this book was going!.....but my days! I did not see THAT! From about 78% my heart was in my mouth and I have to admit to shouting at my kindle!!.....more than once!
I highly recommend this book and this author......it's hard to believe that this is his first book.......I have not wanted to put this down! I look forward to reading the next one!

*** WARNING: Contains small spoilers ***

This book was so cool to read. It about two characters, a man who is a widow and woman who has never been married. They are nameless to the reader. They meet on a dating website, Second Chances. They each have their own pasts, but they click online and eventually meet in real life. They find out their paths have crossed before, in their youth when she was hiding from a stalker. They begin a passionate relationship once they meet. Their relationship is natural and they are what each other has been missing it seems. Then the story takes suspenseful turn and fear brings them closer. I don't want to give details of that away. It is worth the read and surprise. I couldn't put it down from start to finish. This writers style is new to me and I loved it! I felt connected to both characters in the story instead of relating more to one of them. I found myself getting lost in it until the end. Readers looking for a story unlike any erotic thriller they have read before should make sure they read this book. They will not be disappointed.

My feelings are as mixed as the literary techniques used by the author. This book is part erotic romance, part thriller, part fictional memoir, all woven through a commentary on fate and chance. The story is told primarily through two alternating viewpoints with the first chapter representing a third. The two main characters are never referred to by name, but every other character they intersect has a name--including two named Jane. The two main characters meet through a dating site and their life stories unfold during their deep conversations. Past experiences are vividly described as if being relived rather than being discussed. In this way, the action alternates between past and present with a number of "what if" turning points. My favorite part of the book was the age and experience of the characters--both in their forties with associated emotional baggage. I didn't always follow where the story was going or why the characters would expose so much vulnerability in one 24 hour period, though.

Have you ever thought about fate? Destiny? Coincidence? Are there larger forces at hand willing certain circumstances to occur. Do believe that things are meant to be? In this compelling story about 2 people who lives come together and they discover that fate has played a significant hand in both their lives.

The author weaves a beautiful, heartfelt story filled with passion and steaminess. The tale is told from the point of view of 2 adults who have had their fair share of pain, hurt and tragedy in their lives. Things they have lived through shaped them into the people they are today. Just like any Tom, Dick, Harry, Susie, Mary or Sally, these events could have happened in anybody lives.

It is moving story filled with detailed accounts of events and how they effected and brought them together in this moment. Some dark twists and turns and super hot scenes make this book a true page turner. 4.5 stars!!!

The author of this book, Roscoe T. Kearns, reached out to me if I would review his book which was going to be on sale so I told him I would and grabbed the book when it was FREE for his birthday. Great deal on my end. 😁 It has taken me some time to finally get to it but I finally did and wow.

So unlike what I usually read this book is written very differently. Not my cup of tea but it works for this story. It's about two 40+ year old who are going through some life-altering things and like the title says, this is their Second Chance to Live, and they find it through each other. Another interesting thing about this book is that it is written in dual POV but no first names are ever given. You are aware of the male/female POV but the story works in a way that it could be YOU living this life. It totally works and Roscoe did an amazing job.

Wonderful story

This is a refreshing twist from a typical romance. First, the hero and heroine do not have names, which took me a few chapters to realize, but it worked. Second, the characters are older and have "lived" prior to meeting. Third, Roscoe does his research and is very detailed in his writing, but not in that mind numbing way I find with some authors in that it takes away from the actual story. Roscoe' s details fit, they bring the story to life as a lot of the book is inner monologue of the characters. While it is a hot, detailed romance with sex, it's not crude and while I fully enjoy a hot steamy romance complete with dirty talking heroes, that would not have worked here. It's a sweet story of two lost souls coming together and realizing almost instantly that they are kindred spirits and open their hearts to each other. I will definitely be reading more of his books.

A Brilliantly written novel about a man struggling to move on with his life, after the tragic loss of his beloved wife.
He's lucky to have a good friend and business partner, Richard, to lean on in times of need.
Richard helps set him up on a dating website"Second Chances".
Our nameless man there meets a woman who he later discovers ,he actually met years before, so it is a true second chance.
They share some steamy hot passion and exchange tales of their tragic pasts.
One such tragedy has followed them into the present unbeknown to them until now........
Roscoe has definately poured his heart and soul into this novel as it shows in his writting.
A definate must read!

Great book.

This is the first book that I have read by this author. And I really enjoyed it. This book has great characters, a strong storyline and the writing style was really good. I do not give away any spoilers I hate that. So I will tell you. When you see this book Second Chances you would think ohhhh this will be a sweet love story. That is what went through my mind when I purchased it. Well I was way off. It is a love story, but there is so much more. What you think and see , isn't always what it seems . This is a really a great read. I enjoyed seeing where it would go. I recommend this book. And this author did a great job of keeping me guessing as the story went on.

Wonderful book

I want to say so much but I’m afraid I will spoil it for others. It’s not only about our two nameless characters, but it’s what leads our characters on this unforgettable journey. There is pain, and sadness, there is hurt and isolation, of person and feelings. Every emotion you could possible have are poured into the pages by Roscoe Kearns. A beautifully written book, with mature characters, who meet through an online dating site. They talk about their past, deal with the present and feel for a future. The uncertainties they feel and the passion makes this book so very hard to put down. I look forward to reading more from this wonderful author.

This book intrigued me as firstly it is is written by a man and I did wonder whether it would be a romance as I didn’t read the blurb before downloading the book. Secondly I haven’t read many books where the characters are in their the forties.

I did loved the fact the characters were in their forties and were looking for love again. I really enjoyed the story as an older reader myself I could really relate to this book and I loved the storyline and plot twist. It was very deep in places and my heart was in my throat in parts of the story.

This book may contain emotional triggers for some people but was well worth the read and was very entertaining.

WOW! I just finished reading this book and I was just blown away. Captivating, suspenseful and riveting. Not my usual genre but I am so happy I picked this book for my first 2019 read. This story spoke to me. It is so well written and the storytelling is believable, these people feel so real to me. This is an adult love story with mature characters who are working toward knowing each other very quickly, with all the doubts and fears we expect and great hope. Then the Twist, the suspense and need to know the end had me up and reading when I normally would be still asleep, I could not rest until I knew the end! I love this book and the Characters and highly recommend it to adults.

*WARNING* contains explicit adult situations
This book is really about 2 people trying to find companionship. One has lost his wife and still mourns, but wants to life again. The other is lonely. Both of these 40 something adults have had rough pasts and have difficulty talking about them because of the emotional pain. Pretty much the whole book is getting to know thus man and this woman. The book starts out well. Then it drags a bit. Then starts to heat up again. This was well written and well edited. These 2 characters have some terrible emotional scars to work through if they want their second chance.

What a fantastic read this was! The detail in this book is phenomenal, actually makes you feel as if you are in the book with these characters, this book is as it’s title “a second chance to live” one of the main characters is grieving his wife’s death the previous year and contemplates diving back into the dating world! Enter our other main character who is a reporter, who is on a dating sight for research when fate brings her together with our male character. Fate plays a big role in this storyline. I found this book to be an amazing read and is the first I’ve read from this author, but definitely not the last!. I would definitely recommend this book.

White Rabbits. This was my first book by this author. I could relate to both characters in different ways and the fact that they didn't have names and was written in first person POV made it easier to "feel" that character. It was also a plus that the characters were over 40 years old and it was a second chance love story, but if you notice, this was also a second chance Live story. I like love stories, but throw some suspense and thriller in there and it makes them even better. You should read this book...because ....what if you don't?

This book is about two unknown characters that find each other on a dating website just for someone to talk to as they have had a rough past that they don't want to face but they didn't know that they were gonna fall in love with each other. It was very interesting reading this book as I have never read a book that you didn't know the names of the two main characters. I enjoyed this book and I would recommend this book
