A Loving Nip #9

Seducing His Reluctant Vampire

Rate this book
Just a little Love Some bonds should never be forged, and others should never be broken.

Abyzou is a demon, sworn to serve the horseman of Pestilence. Over the centuries he's served his master well, spreading disease and sickness at his bidding. Now, he's coming up on his one thousandth birthday, the day he can bond with his amina and share that person's soul, binding him to this plane. Except, Abyzou realizes his amina is none other than the bigoted vampire Toni Bastille. Even aiding the handsome male in a fight doesn't seem to lessen Toni's ire against Abyzou. To make matters worse, vampires drink blood to survive, and they believe demon blood is toxic to them. How can he convince a vampire that hates demons that they are meant to be together?

I've developed an unhealthy obsession with reading all of the books in these four intersecting series (Wolves of Stone Ridge, A Paranormal's Love, Kontra's Menagerie, and A Loving Nip)...

And I cannot for the life of me understand why. Charlie Richards is a terrible writer. Just want to make that clear.

But I can't effing stop.

3.5 Stars ~ While this is the ninth book in the A Loving Nip series, it can be read as a standalone. However, I would recommend reading book five, Sharing a Demon’s Bond, to find out more about Toni and the reasons for his distrust of demons.

In this latest book of this series, Abyzou, a demon that serves Pestilence, is going about his duties when he comes upon a tantalizing scent. He realizes that vampire enforcer Toni Bastille is his amina (the same as beloved for vampires). But Toni is not enamored of demons. His favorite donor is bound to a demon, and Toni has no trust at all for demons in general.

Also contributing to Toni’s aversion to all things demon is his belief that drinking a demon’s blood is poisonous to vampires and that he would die if he ever did such a thing. Poor Abyzou is having a devil of a time getting Toni to listen to him, and he enlists the aid of Toni’s coven Master, Adalric, to help him convince Toni that he’s wrong in his view of the demons. He approaches Balthazar, another demon, and his human amina, Peter, to help him as well.

Even after proving that demon blood is not toxic, Toni is still reluctant to bond with Abyzou. But the mate pull is strong. Toni wises up and does the right thing. Along the way, he also gets to understand the meaning and reason for Abyzou’s job for Pestilence, and there is also a surprise showdown that leads to an exciting climax of the story.

Seducing His Reluctant Vampire is one of my favorite installments of this series. I’m really enjoying the demons that have been added to the mix of this world and also the Four Horsemen, by extension. Both Toni and Abyzou are interesting characters, and I can’t wait to see them together in more books in this series.

This was a pretty captivating and sweet romance. Abyzou is a demon who realizes that Toni, a vampire, is his mate. Although, Abyzou was a sexy demon of pestilence, Toni was afraid that he'd be poisoned by his blood, since he was a demon. I liked how Abyzou went to the master vampire and Balthazar (a mated demon) to test that theory and prove it to be wrong. I also enjoyed the demon/vampire romance, since that idea was unique to me. They fought together, and they were very erotic together as well. The secondary characters were forgiving and supportive towards the demon who once caused havoc for their coven. I was trying to remember the characters from the previous books in the series, and I do appreciate the fact that the author refreshed my memory during different portions of the story. The plot was engaging and well paced, making this a pleasant and enjoyable read. =) The demons add much more intrigue to this paranormal world.

Nice story for Toni & Byz.

BUT Demons using sickness to save the world !!??
The saddest thing in this story was that the girl in hospital had to die in order to stop others getting sick. Can't law suits be taken out against doctors whose patients didn't die?

This is a revisiting of an old friend - this one? 4/5. Nice
On a major re-re-read of the Stone Ridge world. I usually enjoy Charlies' short stories and novellas (the occasional one is a clunkier) but I have found that the best way to read them is to series binge and read them in the recommended reading order for the 'world' instead of by series. This gives a much more satisfying read with a more consistent plot line and world. Even the clunkers become acceptable as a small part of the whole. The characters are still good, and as usual Charlie uses stereo types with skill and develops characters indirectly. The only characters that develop depth are those who appear and then reappear frequently.
As individual reads? 2 or 3 - though 3 is more common.

Change is hard

Toni has lost his favorite donor and it seems as if everyone around him is finding their beloved. His desire to do likewise is diminished when he meets his beloved, a demon of pestilence! I loved how Ms Richards makes each of her characters unique and relatable, even a pestilence demon. She pulls me into the story until all I want to know is what will happen next.

On the rail

I just was not comfortable with the scene of the 14/15 year old teen that Abyzou was there to give her an infection in her leg after surgery.
Toni asked if she would live and he said no a blood clot would go to her heart and she would die.
Maybe because my own mother had 3 blood clots in her leg and they claimed she died of a heart attack I just no this story was hard for me to accept.

I actually liked this one. However I can't remember a lot of details from the other demon book...

I do know, unexpectedly that Toni isn't (always) in charge of bedroom activities. Byz is deceptively much stronger, albet smaller, than Toni. His forceful take action (with permission to proceed) made Toni's wait to get a mate worth it. He just feels like a good fit for this temperamental vampire.

Perfect easy read, if you've read the previous books. Yes, you can read it as a stand alone, but a lot of the things that make this book more than just sex scenes strung together are things connected to previous books.

I'm hoping the next book in the series will be a bit more substantial. I just like a bit more intrigue to my smut.

I loved how Toni decided to change once he realized that he could drink from his beloved. It might have took a little while for Toni to get over the fact that his beloved was a demon of disease. Overall it's a good quick read.

Don’t mess with pestilence

Another demon bonding but this time with Toni the bigoted. The bad shifter council rep finds it doesn’t pay to mess with one of the 4 horsemen.

Fated Mates for the win

A fast paced, no angst, fated mates eliminates any resistance story. I found the author's take on the Four Horsemen interesting.
