This is a respectful treatment of the subject. Well done.

I’ve been on several group tours (really the best or often the only way to see New Orleans cemeteries) over the years and have heard guides say some dubious things. This book by Mary LaCoste, native New Orleanian, amateur historian, and educator is reliable, well researched and interesting.

She does not focus on cemetery architecture or location of famous graves. That can be easily found elsewhere. I especially liked her story of her husband’s family tomb which was a good way to bring a lot of information together.

I wish this work was fleshed out more. Most of its chapters feel like introductions to a topic, not discussions of it.

Read this while on vacation in New Orleans. Very short less than 100 pages. Not well researched. More like hearsay. Felt like the same 6 stories that get passed around on all the tours and NOLA history books. Needed more info.
