As with the streets of Oakland, California; three families’ lives intersect and are bound by blood ties, secrets and deceit. Each one, desperate to put their sordid pasts behind them, has strived to create the perfect life for themselves and their children. Consumed with the petty criminal activities of their children, as well as dealing with their own trust issues with each other, each parent will do anything and everything to protect their legacy. However, when the actions of three friends attract the attention of an Oakland kingpin, hidden truths and long-buried rivalries bubble to the surface. A case of mistaken identity that ends in murder shakes the very core of each person involved. Are they able to come to terms with their past transgressions and move ahead to a clean future, or will the secrets and lies lead them down a path of destruction? The streets of Oakland are waiting and watching.

From the moment I picked this novel up, I knew that it was a great read. I finished half of the book in no time, but returned to read more the next day. So, while planning on taking a short bath, I ended up not getting out of the tub until I was finished reading to the end, which left me wanting more. The characters and their situations are so relatable to me, especially since I can compare many of them with real people that I know from my past. Although I was a bit saddened to learn that Samson had killed someone that he was unaware of, I got the notion that he was set up, but, only if the author decides to write a sequel to this fascinating read will we learn the truth behind the shooting of Calvin Rogers. Secrets, lies, deceit, and ignorance surround these characters like an epidemic, but it was so compelling and believable that I must demand that the story continues in a new novel because the saga of these individuals has more depth and requires a more vivid explanation of the real truths, and the creations of more chaos that the future holds.
From the genre written, I was told it was a thriller, but for me, it didn't really feel like one. It was more like literary fiction or drama.
Written in different points of view in third person and one character in first person, the prose didn't have the richness of storytelling. It didn't flow smoothly for me. I couldn't connect with the characters and didn't really care for them.
No doubt it was an earnest attempt, but not for me.
This is a really GoodRead!! Can We Say Drama more like Soap Opera😂😂. I had no idea what this read was about but I’m so glad I gave it a chance. And this would be a good movie.
Thank you for you service and friendship. “Skyline “02”
I am beyond proud, thankful , and inspired by this Queens success. Her works are extraordinarily and brilliantly written with such depth and reality. I felt like I was back home myself tapping into ancient politics. Im honored by her contributions to our community and people. Public Communications is definitely a skill set and focus I wish to acquire. Christopher “Cr. Rileydavis” Davis Skyline class of 02”
Beyond the Hurt by Akilah Trinay This story is about relationships in three different families. The dynamics are different for each family. Like how the eents that take place bring all the families together. Love how they go back in time so you get to see what really happened and how it continues in the same fashion years down the road. Lots of adult situations, drugs, gang wars and the like associated with the area in question. So much action and mystery . Lobe how the mothers take care of their children, no matter what is going on with their lives and work.
