You’ve spent years training to be an expert in your field. Years hunched over books and articles, writing essays late into the night on the science and art of your chosen profession. Through hard work and determination, alongside lots of experience, you’ve now become pretty good at it. So good in fact, that you have been asked to stop doing it all the time. You’ve been asked to be a manager. As a new manager, you’ve got to assess people, develop them, write their appraisals and help them to help you, and the business you work for, deliver results. This is the book that will get you there fast. Authored by Sue Willcock, who has almost 30 years of experience in professional services, this book is written with the busy professional in mind – easy to read and packed full of tips new managers can use straight away.
I had the pleasure of undertaking Sue’s suite of training sessions for managers, it was such a good experience. This book brings together all the nuggets from these sessions and then some more. The paperback kicks about somewhere at home, and the handy kindle version is a blessing in disguise for a little boost.
I've just been internally promoters this is my first time managing a team. I found this book easy to read, with some great tips and ideas. Feeling more confident already!
The most practical book I have read on management which speaks to the reality of how management actually happens. I found the book very helpful and useful
Great insight to anyone new to the management team! It makes a scary transition less scary and more of what it is supposed to be: an exciting challenge!
Interesting for a quick read. Some good ideas for a first time manager, though I think you would need more training and input above this to actually be effective.
Useful and easily digestible tips for moving into a management position, I would say it would be useful for brand new managers (like me) or managers starting fresh in a new company.
