Estupor y temblores es la combinación equilibrada de humor negro con ironía, la autora juega magistralemente con las palabras para delitarnos con un humor triste e inteligente acerca de sus vivencias en una empresa multinacional japonesa que sirvió de escenario para que la protagonista y narradora a la vez, nos relate la involución psicológica a la que es sometida. La experiencia laboral permite al lector entender que la cultura occidental no es para cualquiera, que somos diferentes, pero que hay valores que deberían prevalecer en las relaciones. Los personajes son simbólicos y estereotipados, la autora nos cuenta lo que sucede en el ambiente físico, pero de forma paralela establece monólogos y soliloquios que invitan a analizar esta novela desde un enfoque psicoanalítico.
Se burla de sí misma y utiliza su imaginación para liberarse. Es una historia basada en hechos reales, autobiográfica, que deja un mensaje de valentía, dignidad y la consciencia de que hay lugares en los que se puede estar o no, y que todo, a pesar de lo malo, tiene un aprendizaje, así no lo veamos en determinado momento.

Slim, caustic, funny. A wonderfully wry piece of office anthropology in which a young Belgian woman gets to grips with the complexities of Japanese bureaucracy.

Excelente descripción de la subordinación y jerarquías base de toda relación de trabajo. Explora el límite de lo que es posible aceptar por prestar servicios para una empresa en el Siglo XX. Muchas de aquellas situaciones que nos parecen absolutamente inadmisibles suceden y seguirán sucediendo. Y no solamente en Japón.
