Xiao Yan is a nice protagonist, not overly overpowered and the reasons for why he wants to become strong are not stupid, i really like the idea of someone that was once seem as useless becoming the strongest, Xun Er is also a nice heroine and love interest, she is misteryous and she can take care of herself, also her love for Xiao Yan seem to have a solid foundation and is not something ''OMG HE IS HOT AND STRONG, I MUST HAVE HIM'' with that in mind, i will love see their relationship develop, now for the bad stuff that for me other than the odd phrasing here and there and some grammatical errors on the version i read, this seems like a solid novel and i will continue with the series.
So 4 Stars seems a good place, would recommend.

Irrational, illogical and nonsensical. Author/translator is viciously cyclical/repetitive especially if everything and anything is offensive and everybody is vengeful (vendettas). It is an isekai (reincarnated into a "crippled cultivator" that becomes OP (Over-Powered) because the girl that the "cripple" was promised to wed (arranged marriage), turned him down. But wait, why would the main character be offended by this (if he is now in somebody else's body)?? Why would the author use this as a main theme (revenge) if by the end of the second book he beats up the fiancé (after training for three years) and then refuses to take her on as a slave (Fiancé stated that if main character won, she would be his slave)?? So, what is the point of this story??? Why does the author forget about the story arcs??? It lacks cohesion, lacks editing, it does not make sense. Main character enters an academy and leaves the day he was accepted, battles with the teacher and promises to come back in a year. Leaves for more than two years and then doesn't really study in that academy?? Can it really be considered "educational" if all everybody does are participate in tournaments/competitions, without ever attending classes, cultivating levels, special skills, eating, sleeping or graduating?
Then bad people from the leading Misty Cloud Sect,"abduct his Dad", Xiao Zhan, he goes missing (presumed dead or abducted by someone presumed powerful) and the story does not say what happened until after chapter 1110?? His master (Yao Lao) leaves main character Little Yan (Xiao Yan), because main character fought a strong cultivator woman (Lin Lin), that he knew (but because of disguises) they try to kill each other and just leave everybody heavily wounded??? What happened to Qin Lin (the serpent half-ling girl)?? (comes back until chapter 1266) Lin Lin??? Why is everybody in this Wuxia novel called Xiao (little Yan/Xiao Yan) or Lin, or Yan, er, ge-ge??? I know they are supposed to show closeness (familiarity) but if everybody has the same names, similar names, how is one supposed to keep track of everybody??? It's like a Russian Novel with 1,000 names and the author names everybody the same??? changes main character's name (so that people do not know who he really is?? nobody knows who he is anyways (or cares)???
It is childish, it is immature, does not have much emotional intelligence (EQ) and it lacks ethical values, lacks moral compass, lacks cohesion, lacks main story arcs and secondary arcs (that make sense and are completed). It is filled with fake drama (circumstances that lack common sense) that just create problems for the main character, and arranged by the author just to make all of this colluded, convoluted and incohesive.
No maps, no inside illustrations, no character summaries, translations need a lot of work, a lot of editing, story urgently needs cohesion. It needs to make sense.
I do not recommend this very long, extremely long story series.

Review of Battle Through the Heavens Vol. 1 – Tian Can Tu Dou

Original Title: Doupo Cangqiong (斗破苍穹)
Author: Tian Can Tu Dou
Genre: Fantasy, Xianxia, Action
Volume: 1 of over 40 volumes
Publisher: China South Booky Culture Media Co., Ltd.

Synopsis
Battle Through the Heavens Vol. 1 introduces us to Xiao Yan, a young martial artist living in a world where strength determines everything. Once considered a prodigy, Xiao Yan's life takes a dramatic turn when his cultivation abilities mysteriously disappear, leaving him powerless and ridiculed by those around him.

The ultimate humiliation comes when his fiancée, Nalan Yanran from the Misty Cloud Sect, unilaterally annuls their engagement, shaming him publicly. However, his fate changes when he discovers that the ring left by his late mother houses the spirit of Yao Lao, a legendary alchemist. Under Yao Lao’s guidance, Xiao Yan begins his journey to reclaim his power, uncover hidden secrets, and seek revenge against those who wronged him.

Strengths
✔ Rich World-Building and Clear Power System
The novel presents a well-developed cultivation system involving Dou Qi techniques, alchemy, and powerful clans, creating an immersive fantasy world.

✔ Motivating Character Development
Xiao Yan’s journey from disgrace to dominance is satisfying and inspirational, making him a compelling protagonist.

✔ Spectacular Fight Scenes
The battles in this novel are intense and detailed, showcasing strategic combat and creative cultivation techniques.

✔ Unique Alchemy Element
Unlike many other xianxia novels, Battle Through the Heavens integrates alchemy as a crucial aspect of power progression, adding a fresh dynamic to the story.

Weaknesses
✘ Typical Xianxia Tropes
The "fallen genius who rises again" plotline is a common trope in xianxia, though it is executed well here.

✘ Shallow Side Characters
Many supporting characters in the first volume lack depth and mainly serve to push the plot forward rather than having their own development.

✘ Slow Pacing at the Start
The beginning of the story takes time to establish the world and character background, but the pacing improves as Xiao Yan starts his journey.

Conclusion
The first volume of Battle Through the Heavens is a promising introduction to an epic adventure. With a fascinating world, a unique cultivation system, and an ambitious protagonist, this novel is highly recommended for fans of xianxia and action-packed fantasy stories.

Rage quit.
I wanted to check it out after watching the start of the animated series, but I was disappointed. I don't know if I have to blame the writing style or the translation, but it reads laboriously at best. And that's the least of my problems with this.

Xiao Yan is kind of an idiot and lacks any compassion or moral. Not the kind of protagonist I like, I must say.
I love a ruthless, super OP protag, especially lately since I got into regression manhwa, that's not the problem.
If a character is a piece of sh*t, it's fine with me, but what I hate is a character that goes from "woe is me, life is so unfair..." to threatening to noncon a chick, and back again in 5 minutes.
No thanks.

I suppose that for once, I will watch the show without the source material. It will be best for the sake of my sanity.

Typical Chinese web novel with the Xianxia/ Xuanhuan elements

The review is for all the 16 books comprising 1648 chapters. Read a fan translated from Chinese to English.

I got into the series after watching the animation for the same. While I do love the world-building and character development, they might seem underdeveloped and less refined considering western novels, but I am digging them for what they are, fun lite reads, and the web novel does seem among the better ones in the genre.

The story focuses on the MC becoming the strongest by consuming flames and being a potion/pill master.

This book is very interesting. It shows the adventure of the main character, Xiao Yan. The interesting part about this book is that Xiao Yan wasn't overpowered right at the start but rather it was a gruelling and tough journey towards power. The only bad part about this book is that the romance isn't very well done. Xiao Yan is not really only dedicated to one female but ended up with more than one lady and the reason behind it is kinda silly.

The best story I have eveer read. The Donghua/anime is also good but there's a little different from the books. And it's a pity the story is finished. I wish to read more but nothing I can't do about it. The story is so good that I want to continue the story but I didn't and it's a pity Xioa Yan didn't marry the other girls. 😢
