Cauldron: Unstoppable Nazi Zombies in Outback Australia. Yep.

Rate this book
Two men stand guard over the entrance to a forgotten Cold War bunker. There’s something down there. Something locked behind ancient steel doors. Something that scrapes around in the dark. If you come looking for it, you die.

Naturally, somebody comes looking for it…

Not so best-selling author Ross Vittachi becomes convinced a lost Nazi artefact – a golden cauldron once in the hands of Heinrich Himmler – may be hidden somewhere in Outback Australia, and he’s on a mission to find it.

Teaming with newspaper reporter Larry Kirby and Larry’s no-nonsense girlfriend, Jasmine ‘Jazz’ Reilly, Vittachi embarks on an unlikely hunt for Nazi treasure – a hunt that will soon see them chopping their way through hordes of ravenous, reanimated corpses and straight into the malevolent heart of the Third Reich’s darkest secret.

Bon appétit.

If you are reading this review because you are unsure if you want to read this book because of it's "B" movie title, do yourself a favor and just read it. The book is quick paced and the pages just fly by. I am hoping that there is a part two.

I thought with a cheesy title like that, it has to be good, right? Nope. It started off fine and had some interesting ideas, but it just got worse with every page. I should have bailed in the first third. All of the characters were one dimensional jerks, the story was inane, and the writing subpar. Disappointed and a little angry.

I hate zombies, but this was fun, surprising, and well-written. Kept the tension up, even when the rational part of my brain was remonstrating with the part that was enjoying the story. It's a romp in the bush, and it's over the top and fun.

If you want a fast paced, and humorous zombie read then this is for you.
Colin Wicking truly has a great imagination and a clever wit to match. This book is a great read from front to back and very difficult to put down.
Highly recommend.

Been waiting with excitement and intrigue for this to come out for some time, so have to admit my biases upfront: a) written by a local, and b) zombies ('nuff said).

This was unexpectedly brilliant. Seriously, where else are you going to find zombies, Nazi's, Nazi zombies, zombie animals, references to pop culture and horror movies, plus a few other tidbits that are not going to be mentioned due to spoiler alerts.

Not to mention, a strong female lead akin to Marion Ravenwood (played by Karen Allen) from Indiana Jones - smart ass, sassy, yet brutal. Plus it has some wicked one liners that I will now be adopting.

You honestly wouldn't believe that this could all come together and work as well as it did. If this was made into a movie (first), people would shake their heads at it (but then it would gather a following). Not everyone will enjoy this, but that's ok, those that do enjoy it, will love it.

Can see this becoming a cult classic. Highly recommend!
