Vixen is a minor character within the DC Universe, mainly as one of the members of the Justice League of America (JLA). DC decided to give her a six issue run to flesh out her back story. Vixen is from the fictional country of Zambesi, found on the savannah plains of Africa. After discovering she was led to believe lies about her mother's death, she returns to Zambesi to seek the truth and bring the real murderers to justice.

I loved both issues and have developed a real fondness for Vixen. Now I need to read the other four issues. Vixen's story was heartbreaking but what a strong woman she was (with and without her talisman)! And I liked that her character and powers were not just a gender swap of some male character; she was a fully developed character all of her own. The story and artwork worked together to really immerse the reader in Africa. 4 stars.

I was not familiar with this hero before reading this issue, but her story and her powers are interesting. Vixen fights with Batman, Superman, and Black Canary for justice. But when she finds a clue that the man who murdered her mother is still alive, she returns to her home country of Zambesi to avenge her past.
Vixen uses a magical necklace to help her channel the strengths of various animal spirits whose names she calls out as she attacks, from jaguar to eagle.

Even considering that it's the first issue in a series of five, this comic book is too short. This story is cut off very abruptly. I won't read another single issue; I'm waiting until I'm ready to buy the full series.
