Excellent love story about finding your perfect match at the wrong time. Luke, a famous actor is in town filming a movie. While exploring the town he meets Tavora. She is quite, withdrawn and a bit of a mystery.
Tavora's heart is sealed shut, belonging to her husband Jim. Only he was taken away from her by a freak accident. She is not ready to move on and lose him from her life. She keeps to herself and does not interact well with other people, sometimes even having panic attacks. She recognizes Luke from his films and agrees to help him learn more about the town's history.
Five Coffees is a great love story full of learning to let go and move on. To reopen your heart to someone in need. It has a some sad moments, but it also has lots of happy moments. I really enjoyed the book. It does kind of end abruptly, leaving me sitting her desperately waiting for the continuation of Luke and Tavora's story.
Luke was playing a part of a lawyer in a movie, but he couldn't seem to get into it. The director told him he could have one week to get it down right. He left and got into his car to go check out the town. He found himself at the library, so he went in. The lady in there told him to go to the genealogy section and he would find what he was looking for. Tavora was on rolling steps looking at books when she heard the voice of the man of her dreams. Her husband had died so she keep herself busy reading. She got into the elevator and found that Luke had got on it. She almost had a panic attack. She agreed to meet him the next day to get him more acquainted with the town. They met at a coffee shop. This is a heart touching story. God moves in mysterious ways and this is a great example. A real page-turner.
Luke is a movie star that landed a roll in a small town, however, for the first time he was having trouble identifying with the character. Tavora (love the name btw) is a widow in the small town and she is going through life like a zombie until she meets Luke. She becomes Luke's fountain of information about the town. He shows her that there is life after death. This is a slow building love story that will melt your heart in so many ways. I cannot wait to read more on these two!
Another good Christian romance from a very talented author. There's a lot of what I expected from a Christian romance, some of what I didn't expect too. The chemistry was obviously there from their first meeting. You couldn't miss it. Both tried to deny it though very unsuccessfully. I will say the author got it right on how it is coming back from the death of spouse to move on with life. Honestly, it can be difficult.
I won a copy of this book. the cover is amazing. The story took a bit to get into. Somewhere along the way it all turned into church and religion things and that lost me. But i kept reading. Ending left a lot to be desired but this is first in a series, i will read other books to come just to get more on the characters. All and all it was an ok book. Worth the read :-)
Five Coffees has all the elements of a great love story and will make you feel an array of emotions.
With Tavora we feel what it’s like to be alone and lonely. Tavora is alone after her husband passed away. She is lonely because she misses him and has chosen to isolate herself from others. She has built a wall around herself and has not been able to move on. She holds on to his last touch. With Luke we feel conflict. Luke is conflicted by his feelings for Tavora. He is happily married to the woman he loves and has a child he adores. Sacrifice, you give up something you really want for those you love.
Tavora and Luke dance around their feelings and declare them. They get to know each other and share what they have not shared with others. They become comfortable with each other and develop a comfortable friendship. This story is beautiful, happy and sad. It all blends in at the right time and makes it feel so very real. This story took my heart and made me fall in love. I am looking forward to the continuation.
I was provided with an ARC by the author in exchange for my honest review.
Here are some of my favorites:
“Her index finger and thumb twisted her wedding ring. It was plain, as she was never one for frills. Silver, shining brightly. Not that she had to wear it anymore. Not for Jim. When he had passed away, he had taken her world from her.”
“Someone brushed past her and she closed her eyes, smelling of cinnamon and spice. The scent permeated the space she was in and then wafted away.”
“Her cornflower-blue eyes met his and he inhaled. They were beautiful, like the sky on a cloudless day.”
“Reaching out his thumb, he wiped the honey off of her chin and slid it into his mouth. The warm honey had cooled on her chin and mixed with her. His thumb slid out of his mouth, realizing what he had just done. It was reflex.”
I would like to thank the author for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review. This year I wanted to try books completely different from my usual genres. The only few christian books I have read are christian historical romances and those have a completely different style from contemporary christian books. So I went in into Five Coffees without a lot of expectations and I am glad to say I was pleasantly surprised.
Tavora Kar is a woman who has lost her husband and is still reeling from his loss.Luke R'phael is an actor who has come into her town for a movie shoot and is finding it difficult to get into his role. But the truth is both of them are lost and looking for something and fate gives them a chance to find it in each other. Moreover, Luke is married and has a son.He loves his family dearly.
They meet accidentally and Tavora agrees to be his guide around town and tell him about its history.Over the course of time they discover more things about each other.Luke helps Tavora find love again, get past her loss and remember that she is strong. But will Tavora be there for Luke when he needs to be strong?
I loved how maturely the two characters handled their attraction towards each other. They were both compassionate and cared about others a lot.Religion plays an important role in this book but its written in a way that it isn't crammed down your throat like some other books. It was beautiful to see Luke rediscovering his faith.
It also ends with a minor cliffhanger. So we'll have to wait till the next book to see what happens to Luke and Tavora. Can't wait!!
Five Coffees is a major departure from the author's more recent Bloom series, and I enjoyed it very, very much. I'm not quite sure whether to say it's her best work so far, because of my enduring affection for her earlier book, As You Wish, but it is a fine piece of Christian Fiction.
I was on the edge of my seat through much of the book. At times it seemed absolutely certain that the sad, widowed heroine and the gentle, decent hero were going to fall into adultery. No, I cried, no no no! They were in such danger and came so close. Seldom in a love story have I found such fearful suspense; it was terrifically exciting. Their struggle and eventual triumph was beautifully rendered.
One criticism I often have of writers of love stories is that they tend to go on too long, inserting spurious 'epilogue' chapters just to show that everyone lives happily ever after, or has a baby or something. Jackson deserves a medal for her discipline and restraint in ending Five Coffees just at the perfect moment, and this alone goes a long way to make the book the gem it is.
Tavora Kar. Luke R'Phael. 2 very different people from very different lifestyles. All things being equal, they should never encounter one another.
Luke is an actor who is adamantly in love with his wife Mara and son Xavier.
Tavora is a widow who has immersed herself in the stacks at the local library to deal with her grief and desire not to be touched physically or emotionally.
When Luke needs a guide to give him the details and history on the small town of Rowland, so he can fit into his character for his current movie he is directed to Tavora.
Somehow a spark is struck, yet neither one is willing to admit it to themselves as they are not willing to take that step.
This book will pull you in from the very first chapter, and won't let you go until the last chapter, by which time you will most likely be crying.
When you read the final words of the last chapter, you will be anxiously waiting for the 2nd book in this set, as it leaves you wanting to know more!
Another great read from Cathy Jackson! Luke is an actor in a small town filming his current movie but unable to get into character. Tavora spends her days in the library filling her time every day so she doesn't have be in her empty house. When Luke is told he has one week to get into character he decides to study up on the town and finds himself at the library. A chance meeting turns into friendship as Tavora helps Luke learn about the town.
I love how the author writes her stories, she gives her readers a romance that grows from friendship but in this story it's not quite one, enter cliffhanger (she does these so well). As with all her stories religion is part of the story and I enjoyed how she added it in this story. You find that God talks to everyone if you open up. I received this in exchange for a honest review.
Wow! What can I say about a book that touched me in so many ways. This book starts off simple with actor Luke R'Phael doing some research for a film in the local town where it is filming. He runs in Tavora Kar who is still dealing with a major loss in her life. The two meet accidentally and Tavora becomes Luke's tour guide for the week. The two become friends and Luke shows Tavora that there is more to life than the loss and grief that has shadowed her life. This is a book about hope for something more. Cathy Jackson touched my heart so deeply as being someone who has lost a spouse. I understood where Tavora is in her life, the pain and loneliness that she felt spoke volumes to me. This book is about love and with love we have hope for more. Well written and I loved every bit of it. I can't wait until the next book.
FANTASTIC!!!!!! I absolutely loved this book. This book is romantic, emotional, spiritual and heartfelt. Tavora's spiritual insite to things are amazing to me. What she went through and is going through. Luke helping Tavora and being a friend and being faithful to his wife is great. I connected to Tavora when she miscarried her son. I also miscarried a son. I understand completely on what she went through. Luke is a lost lamb looking for his way. I loved the idea of Tavora of being Luke's guide to find God. This is a wonderful book. I highly recommend reading this book. I look forward to reading more books by Cathy Jacson. This book is a must read.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Great Job by Cathy Jackson on Five Coffees! Luke and Tavora are two common souls who, somewhere along the way, suffer from a the same tragic loss. The friendship that buds between them is unique and one that when you find it, you hold on to it no matter what. Even if that means only in spirit. There's a greater force working in the lives of these two individuals. One that is pulling them together, although, neither of them recognize it. But sometimes, you have no choice, God intervenes and you listen. I'm curious to know what the future holds for Luke and his Tavvy. Well written, the story flows well between the dual point of views.
I received a copy of this book exchange for an honest review. Love this story about Luke and Tavora how life can change for the good or bad but meet people who is a little different but affect you in a way that some haven't but learn to open up again and not hide your self from others just be strong and brave. Sometimes the life you have you can make it better or do it alone but it's worth to have happiness than being lonely. Try to focus on what you have been bless with and have gain another who completes you.
Loved it. This was a great book by Cathy. This was the 1st book of the series. This is the story of Luke who is an actor and doing a movie. He is having a hard time finding his character. The director tells him to take some time off and research the character. While researching he meets a woman. But because he is married he would never betray his family or wife. Lavora is the women he meets. Her husband has passed away and she is having trouble with letting go and moving on. He tells he she needs to let go and love again. This was such a great story and can't wait to read the rest.
Five Coffees by Cathy Jackson I received this is an ARC in exchange for an honest review. While the main characters Luke and Tavora have chemistry, they meet at the wrong time in their lives. Cathy Jackson is a talented writer but this book falls flat unlike her Bloom series. There is a series of repetition of descriptions that took me out of the story. I give it 3.5/5 Platypires. I will recommend this series to others who enjoy Christian romance novellas.
Another great book by Cathy Jackson. Five Coffees is a very romantic and emotionally heartfelt story about Tavora and Luke. The story line was great and the characters are very well developed and relatable. Even in your most painful moments friendship and love can still overcome.
(I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review)
I absolutely lo e everything's Ms. Jackson writes. I can't wait to get my hands on this book and read it. I'm am positive it will be just as amazing if not more than her other work!;
'Five Coffees' I loved it! The story flowed. Cathy wrote another hit for me. It was so beautifully written as always. I loved her way of presentation. Execution. I'm not talking about killing anyone lol Her wordiness - And I'm not talking about mounts or frequency of words, she never has the ability of roundabout expression. I'm taking style and choice of words. It's hard to come across performance like this, I eulogise it.
Tavora's story of dysphoria. I truly related to her in more than one way, as I'm sure most people would. We've all lost someone, and it's with great understanding that we can all relate. However, she tugs at your heart strings with the way Cathy writes her. With her portrayal of her it was as though she was writing about myself.
Luke was a darling of a guy... a rarity in this way of life. His loyalty to his wife Mara and his son Xavier was marvellous. Exactly how I would have portrayed him myself. His character to me was not complex in anyway. He innocently was not looking for love in anyone, as he himself already had love with Mara. The woman he'd loved since the moment he met her. However, I found I had asked myself often was he truly happy with her as I came to the conclusion he was not completely being himself. Deep down he had been a very religious man, lost his faith overtime, but with his wife and family he had no such recall. Mara not a religious person, and dose not teach this to their home-schooled son, I found deep down Luke was sore about it. Tavora reminded him of this fact and of his parents who were also very deeply religious people. Whom also dedicated themselves to the faith and the church as Tavora did.
This genre is always complex because I find there is a lot of controversy in this world, religion is a big one from where I come from. A lot of people (Including myself) shy away from religion when they lose someone. I myself lost my faith in not only the Lord but in the world after I lost someone very close to me. Tavora choose to continue her faith and dedicate herself to it as well as the people. I found that so beautiful that someone after so much loss could keep her faith and move on, even if it were the course she lived in.
Well worth the read. But don't take my word for it. Go read it yourself ;)
This is the first Cathy Jackson's book I have read, but it won't be my last.
I loved the conversations between Tavora and Luke, I loved that they were honest about their feelings and I loved that they knew their boundaries and would not cross the line. Luke knew he was treading on dangerous ground and that's why he made sure fill his thoughts with what he had at home; I admired him for this. And when Tavora talked to him about God it was one of the most beautiful scenes in the book. There are so many beautiful moments in this story, like the conversation between Lucy and Tavora about prayer, the bathroom emotional crisis and Hank's transformation. If I had one complaint it would be that both Tavora and Luke should not have continued to play with fire, because it could have set off a raging forest fire and destroyed everyone. There are not a lot of people willing to respect that boundaries should not be crossed, but it seemed as if Luke and Tavora were willing to bring light into each others lives instead of darkness.
Great story and I can't wait for book 2.
Merged review:
Five Coffees
This is the first book I have read by Cathy Jackson's book, but it won't be my last.
I loved the conversations between Tavora and Luke, I loved that they were honest about their feelings and I loved that they knew their boundaries and would not cross the line. Oh how I loved this book, I couldn't put it down. The story revolves around Luke and Tavora . Two unlikely people that become friends but there is something more between them . Tavora has a past love that has passed away , she is still is haunted by him . Luke is a actor in town for a few weeks shooting a movie but he is blocked and needs to get into the mind of his character . A chance meeting in an elevator and a friendship is born.
The characters in this book are polar opposites of each other . Tavora Kar is a sweet character who is harboring a deep secret. She has become an introvert that can not stand to be touched by other people . She is lonely but doesn't want to have the connection with people . As you read into the book you see her start to blossom and come out of her shell. She is the type of woman that you want to have as your best friend once you get to know her . Luke is an actor but not the type of actor that would go cheating on his wife and son. He is the type of man that will defend your honor and keep you safe even if you are a friend . Their friendship grows deeper and deeper and you love them . There is much more going on with these characters and you want to find out and keep reading . You will love them hopefully as much as I do .LOL
The author has captured the small town life perfectly. The way she describes how the town folk are is pretty accurate . Her characters are both complex yet they have hidden flaws, that make you just want to hug them and tell them everything will be ok. You know when you read any of Cathy's books you better have a box of Kleenex beside you . She will make you laugh and make you cry, make you want to throw your kindle and then in the next moment you will be hugging your kindle with a goofy grin on your face. As with this book I did have some crying experiences and I laughed
I really loved this book and read it in one sitting . So if you want a sweet read that will make you want to hug the ones you love just a little harder and take your best friend out for coffee. This book is for you , Check it out
Five Coffees consists of a beautiful relationship between two people who know their own limits and commitments.
Luke, the honourable and hardworking actor. Married and with a wife and son at home, he is deeply in love with but cant deny the feelings he has for this woman who has helped him in his acting career over the last week in her company.
Tavora who is still struggling after the losses and heartbreak she has endured, feels this draw to the man who asked her for help in knowing more about her town. To better invest himself in his acting role.
Neither knew what the break week from filming would hold other than hours spent together daily and both recognising what the other has to face and both teaching one another inadvertently...
Excerpt: ...He wanted to help her and, being Luke, the thought and sight of another human being in pain distressed him. He was ready to remedy that.
As Luke prepares to leave Tavoras life, I admit to feeling a little disappointed. Where was the big grand goodbye? But what a cliffhanger Cathy Jackson leaves us with. With the feeling of 'faith' being an ever constant in this authors books, this story felt similar despite the completely different direction from the bloom series with some amazing and refreshing new characters to enjoy and savour.
Very excited about this new series and I can't wait to see what the future holds for this pair who sadly, have too much in common. "God works in mysterious ways" very much sums up this book. I can't wait to see where this pair are taken next on their journey.
Excerpt: This was where her life had turned around. Luke had taught her to smile and to laugh. And to love....
Five Coffees is a journey filled with emotional and spiritual essence along with romance. Luke is an actor who needs to get into the role of a lawyer, but finds it difficult. This time he has been given an ultimatum of week in which he decides to get to know the people of the town more. The town in which they are shooting is small, simple, nothing too lavish.
This town also happens to be the home of Tavora, our female protagonist. Her heart belongs to only one person, her late husband, Jim. She has created walls around her so strong that it is difficult for her to be around people at time especially in confined spaces.
I have loved how the author has created this connection between Luke and Tavora by bringing them together. Luke and Tavora start off as being friends, where Luke remains faithful to his wife and son, and where Tavora helps him as being his guide.
But things change. (Not giving any spoilers).
The end of Book One is funny and I absolutely loved it. It is a conversation between Luke and Aisling about Tavora *wink wink*
The most important aspect of this story for me was the writing part. I think I have never felt at ease with third person as much as I did with this story. I've always dreamed of reading such story set in a small town, and it even had a huge library which was a plus point for me. I felt this story to be authentic in it's nature.
The flow. The flow of the story brings out the perfect emotions the readers need to feel. You don't have that break or bumper where you need to go back to understand something. Everything falls into place on it's own time. Well, except for Luke and Tavora's meeting
I did receive this novel, Five Coffees as a Free ARC Copy in exchange for an honest review. I have read all of Ms. Jackson's other novels, and love them all. Five Coffees is no exception, I fell in love with it.
The main character, Luke is an actor, who is up for playing a part of a lawyer in a movie, but he couldn't seem to get into it. The director told him he could have one week to get it down right. He left and got into his car to go check out the town. He found himself at the library, so he went in. The lady in there told him to go to the genealogy section and he would find what he was looking for.
Tavora, the other main character in the novel, was on rolling steps looking at books when she heard the voice of the man of her dreams. Her husband had died so she keep herself busy reading. She got into the elevator and found that Luke had got on it. She almost had a panic attack. She agreed to meet him the next day to get him more acquainted with the town. They met at a coffee shop.
Luke asks Tavora if she wouldn't mind showing him around the town, and show him around. Tavora agreed, but, did tell him no to accepting any payment. Tavora is very shy around Luke. She doesn't like being touched, she is very set in her ways and her schedule. Being around Luke she has opened up to him and is letting someone close to her again.
This is a heart touching story. God moves in mysterious ways and this is a great example. A real page-turner.
>I am an independent reviewer. This book ends in somewhat of a cliffhanger. Tavora is a widow still so in love with her husband she is unable to be touched without going into an anxiety attack. Luke is a famous movie star, filming in her small town. Luke meets Tavora while at a library looking for background info on the town. They decide to meet for coffee each day, in order for Tavora to relay the town's history. Luke mentions his deep love for his wife and son, yet gives in and mentions feelings of attraction to Tavora. Cheating in mind or cheating in deed, it is all still cheating. He eventually tells his wife, who is understandably upset. I found that I couldn't like Luke due to his actions. Tavora isn't looking for anything from Luke, except to relay information to him. She even deletes his phone number as promised. Luke never deletes her number.
>Circumstances are such that maybe they can get together. Luke actually calls an escort service to see if he just needs a physical relationship to get beyond Tavora. Luke claimed to respect women, yet has cheating thoughts and is willing to sleep with a woman for money. My opinion of Luke is in the toilet.
>Not sure how the story will end, but it will take a lot for Luke to redeem himself. This book is appropriate for a young adult (18+) audience. I am giving the story 4 stars. The writing is good and the editing is perfect.
Luke is a famous actor that is filming in Tavora's home town, he's struggling to get a feel for his character. So he is told to take some time off and gain some perspective on the town in the hope he can get it right.
Tavora practically lives in the library, all she does is eat, sleep and read. Since loosing her husband she barely exists in the world of the living. Doing bare minumum to get by and refusing to engage with anyone because lets face it, if you don't get close to people then when you loose them it can't hurt.
From the moment they meet in the elevator they are drawn together, even though Luke is happily married. No cheating takes place in case you were wondering.
Well this book was for me slightly difficult to read. It's very unlike anything I have read before. It's extremely faith based and since I am not religious at all these parts were very hard for me to digest.
Overall it's an okay read. The "cliffhanger" ending I didn't think could really be called that. It's a little less exciting than cliffhangers that I have read before. It certainly didn't make me think "oh I can't wait for the next one".
Reviews like this are always hard to write, we can't all love every book we read sadly. But honest reviews are what are important.
Five Coffees is the first book in the Five Series; it is different from the author’s previous books in the Bloom Series but it is just as well written. I would dare to say that this is my favorite book by Ms. Jackson to date. This is a sweet and endearing story about loss and learning to love again.
Luke is a famous actor who loves his wife and child. He also loves his work and is very passionate about it. Tavora is a widow who is guarded and keeps to herself. She busies herself with reading and history. When Luke needs to learn more about the town’s history Tavora agrees to help him.
This story has its ups and downs; it kept me on edge from the first page until the end. It was sad to see that Tavora had finally met someone who could touch her heart but it broke my heart to know that Luke was married so they couldn’t be more than friends. Luke teaches Tavora how to open her heart and learn to live and love again. Tavora also taught Luke not just about the town’s history but how to find and develop a relationship with God. I love how Ms. Jackson works in the spiritual aspect into this story. I also love that Luke remains faithful to his family. I really enjoyed watching their friendship develop and I cannot wait to read more about them in the next book.

This is a very emotional read. Tavora lost her husband to a freak accident and spends most of her time in the library. On one visit, she encounters Luke. Luke is an actor who is trying to get a feel for the character he is going to play in a film. He believes learning more about the town and its people will help him connect to the role.
When Tavora becomes his guide, they form a connection that neither expected. It is a dangerous one as Luke is married and has a young child that he loves very much. Tavora wants to remain faithful to her husband and their love. She is also very religious and connected to her church. Luke has let go of his childhood faith.
It is really a beautiful tale of two people that are brought together by fate. Tavora has kept herself from connecting with others since her husband's death and Luke encourages her to open herself up to others. There is great sadness and pain but also hope for the future. The author does a wonderful job crafting these characters and the story will resonate with you.
It does end with quite a cliff-hanger so you will be eager for the second part.
Cathy has an amazing way of combining romance with a splash of religion. In this new book, there are two main characters, Tavvy and Luke. Luke is in town to film a movie, but needs to learn more about the locals to make his role pop. He finds himself at the local library where he gets stuck on the elevator with Tavvy. Tavvy is a widow that is just going about life, but not living. Tavvy agrees to be a historian/tour guide for Luke for a week. But in that week, the two grow close. He tries to help her overcome her sadness and come back to the world of the living, while she brings him back to to his youth and going to church with his parents. The only thing standing in the way is..Luke is happily married. After the two part ways, Luke goes home to spend time with his wife and son. After a short vacation, his wife becomes sick. Hoping she was pregnant, they get the worse news, she has cancer. A year after her death, Luke decides he's ready to date, yet also finally posts a statement on his social pages explaining about his wife. Will Tavvy and Luke find their way back together or does God have other plans?
