Retired Cop, Cliff Yates, frustrated with the media bashing of police officers, tells the inside secrets of how cops are recruited, hired and trained. How do police agencies recruit officers? What is the background investigation process? What are the psychological and physical tests for police applicants? How are complaints against cops handled? Do cops carry their guns off duty? Cliff answers all these questions and more. Cliff feels that if more people knew the truth about cops, they would trust them more, and feel confident that police agencies were hiring the best candidates. If you want to know the inside secrets about cops, or ever thought of becoming a police officer, this book is a must read.
Cliff Yates retired from Police work after 35 years of service. He worked as a Deputy Sheriff in upstate New York for five years, before joining the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Cliff worked many assignments with the L.A. Sheriff's Department, most of them in the Patrol division, both as a field deputy and a field Sergeant. For many years Cliff worked as a cop by day, and a stand up comedian by night. When a Local L.A. News channel profiled Cliff's double life, he adopted the moniker "L.A.'s Comedy Cop". He has produced his own comedy shows around Hollywood at some famous venues; The Hollywood Palladium, The Roxy on Sunset, and the El Portal Theatre. He recently Headlined the Punchline Police Comedy Tour, with shows across the United States, bringing people together through comedy, with positive humor supporting American Police Officers. Cliff works now as an Actor, Comedian, Producer, and Writer.
I agree with Cliff Yates that there are far more good law enforcement officers than there are bad. This book is short, but provides a lot of good information about how law enforcement agencies attempt to eliminate that bad element from within their ranks. I deducted one rating point for grammar and formatting errors; otherwise, the book is very informative.
I highly recommend this book. It was an eye opener for me and has given some great insight into law enforcement training. It has definitely changed my perception and opinion on a few issues. Thank you Mr. Yates.
This brief, factual book is informative and interesting. It contains information that the average citizen should now about the process of becoming a police officer. The author's comments and commentary regarding police work and the current climate towards police officers in general make for an interesting starting point for dialogue on the topic.
Very good book on what it takes to become and remain a police officer. I feel it would be great book for the public to read as it will let them know the process people must go through to become a police officer. The book walks you through the stages from employment application, background investigation and so on.
