An uncommon mission. An unholy realm. And ghostbusting on a whole new level...After the death of his Army comrade, William Engberg moves into a simple New Hampshire home against the backdrop of the turbulent foam crested waves of the Atlantic Ocean. It's the ideal place to write and get on with his post-military life. Except for one thing. He has unwanted house guests-ghosts-and he wants them gone!Determined to reclaim his home, William hires Brian, a ghostbusterpreneur, to clean house. Armed with knowledge from a rare journal on how to vanquish the dead, Brian goes to work only to discover his worst nightmare. Ready or not, Brian must deal with his own ghostly demons once and for all if he's going to save William...and himself!
Ron Ripley is a husband and father surviving in New England, a place which seems to be getting colder every day. He grew up across from a disturbingly large cemetery where he managed to scare himself every night before going to bed. Mostly because of the red lights that people put in front of the headstones. Those things are just plain creepy to a kid.
Ron enjoys writing horror, military history and driving through the small towns of New England with his family, collecting books and giving impromptu lectures on military history to his family, who enjoy ignoring him during those dreadful times.
Ripley is feeling his characters and I am feeling the chemistry and getting attached to them. This story had meaning and was faceted. I was definitely not bored. I love how the group was forming. I am really irked at certain ghosts right now and yet I am hoping where one door shuts, another will open. Loving the series.
After reading the first book, Moving In, from the Moving In series, I began with the second book, The Dunewalkers. The book begins where the last book left off although it is not exactly a continuation of the book.
After not being completely satisfied or scared by the first book, The Dunewalkers did not disappoint. I will say, it was actually better than the first one!
Keira is content in her small, medieval village - well, sort of. Her mother is pressing her to marry, but her suitors are less than desirable. So when handsome Aaron Drake arrives in the village and focuses his attention on Keira, she cannot help but be interested
“I know what it is like to be alone, Tom,” she said. Her tone softened. “I do not wish for you to be alone. If you cannot understand you are dead, however, I will not allow you to remain in my home. You have a choice, and it is a plain choice. Will you live among us in good fellowship, or will you live alone in the bitter cold beyond these walls?”
The Dunewalkers pretty much picks up from where we left off at the end of Moving In.
Brian and Jenny return as ghost hunters and try to help a young man name William who has a problem with a bunch of ghosts in his little isolated beach house.
However, Brian and Jenny have some ghosty problems of their own to sort out at the same time.
I really enjoyed the sequel to Moving In - I think even more than the first in the series. It was spooky and the story was interesting. Ron Ripley's writing isn't great but the story was enough to distract from the amateur writing.
I'll be continuing with this series, as I am enjoying following the characters and learning more about them.
"Book 1 Moving In: This was an entertaining story. I do have questions after finishing the story.....I am rating 4 stars for now. I know that this is a series so it is possible that some of the questions will be answered in later installments. It is entertaining enough that I will continue on with the series. Book 2 The Dunewalkers: Ok. Still a four star book. I do feel like some of the questions remaining from the first book were answered in this book. That is good. I am still going to continue to rate this as a 4 star book. While the story is entertaining, I do feel like things could be wrapped up a bit tidier at the end.....I am still entertained enough to continue on with the series. Book 3 Middlebury Sanitarium: Still 4 stars. Some of the questions from the first book were never answered. Also, each individual ""ghost case"" presents it's own set of questions. I still feel some of those should have been answered better. Book 4 The First Church: So far, I seem to be pretty consistantly rating these at 4 stars. The stories are still entertaining. The characters are still fun. I do wish that each book was a bit longer so more things could be explained/explored. Book 5 The Pauper's Crypt: An entertaining enough story. Again, there is enough story for it to be worth the read. Still 4 stars. Book 6 The Academy: Same conclusion. Four stars. I may try this collection for a second time and take notes as I go. There seem to be things that are never answered and things within the ghost ""lore"" of this series that change to serve the purpose of the story. I do get a bit annoyed by these kinds of inconsistencies. I did, however, enjoy this series enough to continue on to the Berkley Street series. It is the story of Shane which is a character that was in this series a bit."
Having blazed through moving in book 1, I was uncertain if things would be as involved in the sequel - they are, and then some.
Following the intense events of book 1, this follow up initially seems more light hearted. Don't get me wrong, things still happen quickly, but the characters enjoy more banter and appear almost flippant at times. I am pleased to say that this does not last (I found it detrimental to the storyline and the tone of the book).
This story focuses on a house nesting nicely by some sand dunes, an idyllic setting - until hell breaks loose again. The past of Leo is explained, there are new ghosts causing pain and mayhem, new characters pulled in to combat the increasingly violent actions - and a surprising twist.
I am so glad I bought the boxed set, book 3 here we go :-)
This is book number two and it is a continuation from book one. I love that you carry characters from book to book. It makes them more interesting. I like how it helps the flow with the storyline development. The ghosts and characters are interesting. You have some demonic ghosts. The ghosts are not all friendly. Brian continues to battle the demonic ghosts. The writing is well developed and interesting. You have a twist at the end. Thom Bowers does a great job with the narration. I recommend this book.
A ghostbusterpreneur with a ticky heart I enjoyed the story about Brian Roy, a ghostbusterpreneur with a ticky heart. When he takes on a job to rid a house of some tricky squatters of the ghostly kind, a literal ghost of his past comes to cause Brian stress and grief. Definately a good read with several surprises along the way.
The strangeness just keeps coming. I love how the characters were able to bind the ghost and stop the mayhem. I am curious to know what happens in book 3 as far as the ghost spirits becoming mad and who the ghost kill. I think this series is moving right along with the story line and hope to not be disappointed by the time it ends in book 6.
After the first book, there is a new mission - helping others to rid their homes of ghosts as well. However, this case is going to be a bit different than most, and could cost all of them their lives.
Great read! I enjoyed it, although the bonus chapters at the end added a little clarity to some of the information at the beginning. Great for a shiver!
The Dunewalkers picks up almost immediately after where Moving In left off and continues the story of the main characters (being a little vague here to avoid spoiler territory). Brian and Jen have taken up the challenge of helping people dealing with hauntings, this time facing a large group of the dead. Unfortunately for them, they have some lingering problems of their own to deal with.
Even better than the first book in the series, didn't stop till I'd finished it. A continuation from where book 1 finished, although not so much a direct story follow on, more so the people who now need their help since they're "Ghostbusters". Looking forward to the third instalment.
Because it was sweet of the ghost Kathleen was not evil but lonely. I like the the married couple too. But anyway no spoilers here but to say if you love a nice ghost story this series is it. 5 lonely ghost out of 5
I never expected this book to end the way it did! What an absolute trip. The death of some characters broke my heart but it was thrilling none the less.
Really enjoyed this one, as I have of most Ron Ripley's books. I truly enjoy his writing style and story telling. Can't wait to start the next book in this series.
