Jason Bellmont used to be a typical athlete. Tall, strong, and disciplined, he was the epitome of a college basketball star, and had the sexual appetite to match. Until he met Eric Logan. Overnight, Jason found himself immersed in a dark, dangerous world, a world where he found the kind of love he never dreamed of having, and the worst heartache he would ever live through. Months later, Jason returns to his family's home in Crookston, Minnesota, to heal after a crippling blow bound him to a wheelchair. There, he and Eric are captured by the vicious vampire Oriana, whose plans for reuniting her former mistress' territory have more of an impact on Jason's life than even he knows, plans that could destroy his family if Jason can't find a way to regain his strength and crush Oriana once and for all.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
Following on a short time after the devastating attack on their newly formed family and bond, and with Gianna unconscious, but stable, Eric and Jason retreat to Jason's family home. To strengthen their bond, before Gianna awakes, and for Jase to recover the use of his legs. But someone has been after Jason's family for some time, and they need to travel across through her territory to get home. Will the Queen's decree that Jason and Eric be unharmed stand true?
This is book two in the Vampyr series, and you really must read book one, The Vampire's Pet before you read this one. Much will not make sense if you don't.
And that book is told from Eric's POV, this one is from Jason's.
The story Jason tells follows from The Vampire's Pet, on into his recovery from that attack. His story carries a far darker undertone than Eric's and is far, far bloodier. There is talk of rape of at least one character, and the kidnapping of children happens more than once.
Its also *almost* exclusively male/male sex, with more than one partner. I'd say it's not as explicit as Pet but equally hot and sexy, if that makes any sense?? Does to me!
It is again single POV, but I didn't notice it so much here. There was a lot of back and forth between Eric and Jason about their true feelings, and it did have a bit of a whiplash effect, the back and forth! I didn't notice any inconsistencies that I noticed in Pet, and not as much is assumed. It doesn't have quite the same cliff hanger, either.
What it does have, is quite a punch. I read it in one sitting, being nearly late for work because I needed to finish it!
It has new characters that are introduced that I need to know more about, and I hope I get them in The New Vampire, which is book three and Gianna's story. I have that to read next.
When I originally wrote this review out, before posting I gave it 4.5 stars. Since reading The New Vampire I'm upgrading it to the full 5 stars. You'll see why when you read my review for that one.
5 stars
**same worded review will appear on Goodreads, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble**
I enjoyed this book a little more than “The Vampire’s Pet”, which was the first in the series. In this book, we get a chance to get to know the individuals and a lot more about Eric and Jason’s backgrounds. It was more up my alley to have a little more character development and see how their relationship developed.
Jason’s family was a refreshing combination and it was also intriguing to see how things operated outside of Atlanta. Each of Jason’s sisters has distinct personalities and I hope we’ll see more of them in the future. We didn’t get to see or hear much about Gianna, but I am excited to see what happens with her in the next of the series!
Warning: Repeated sexual content, non-traditional pairings and reference to sexual abuse.
Who should read it? Fans of the darker paranormal and erotica. You’ll probably be pretty confused if you don’t start with the first in the series.
Please note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review courtesy of the author.
I love the world of the Vampyr, VR Cumming creates a great mixture of dark and dangerous with love and life that leaves me wanting more. I throughly enjoyed reading about these characters both old and new and can't wait to find out what's next for 'ONE'.
I would definitely recommend this book to fans of dark fantasy, Paranormal and erotica. 21+ due to the adult themes and content..
The story continues with Jasens story. There is a lot of violence in this book and you won't believe the things that go on.Everyone's life in this book is changed and it will be your task to find out what happens.Read the book but start with the first one.
