I swear, every volume of this series ends with a promise that the next volume is going to explain what's going on, and every next volume jumps to a completely different storyline.

Wasn’t as into this one really. The perspective was Kano, which is one of the coolest characters everyone loves, and it really explored his struggle with who he is and his place in the world. Even better than this it had a large portion of Ayano’s story which I love, showing how scared she was to be the hero she wanted to be.

But I was so confused almost the whole time lol, I think that’s inevitable with the fact this is multimedia, but the pacing was off to me— and the perspective felt somewhat awkward (probably due to the fact it’s implied Kano is “telling” this story to someone— takane?)

Pretty much the idea was cool but I think it could’ve be told better— I probably would like it with more context from the show or manga

Spoiler-safe review!

Kagerou Daze Vol 5, more like, I Didn't Know This Series Could Get More Depressing But It Did

I think it's safe to say this has become my favourite out of the LNs! I really loved reading from Kano's perspective, even if the last third was rushed in my opinion - especially compared to the pacing in the first half. I would have loved some clarifications to things, they went by a little fast, things that even as someone who's been a fan of the series for years still struggle to fully understand. This gotta be one of the few moments I'm happy to have watched the anime, as I was able to picture some of those scenes then a little bit better.

This volume has made me both laugh and (almost) cry, the things I love this series for, and a lot of things in the first half was new information to me even as someone who has read the manga that covers some of it. I loved the insights Kano was able to give and getting to experience the world from his pov, I already loved him as a character and now I love him even more. Might become one of my favourites, actually. As if I don't already have a lot of faves in this series.

Looking forward to reading the next one! ...Once I get my hands on it.

Dear friend that may or may not read this, I'm about to dump these five novels onto your head next time we meet ~ ^^

SO. DAMN. GOOD.
I have no words. Kano has always been one of my favourite characters so I was really excited when I realized this was narrated by him. It's amazing all the things we got to know, and I swear I just ended up loving Ayano so much.
Need the next one now.

Damn, I feel like there's a huge spike in quality compared to that first novel. This book is definitely the saddest yet, but there's still touches of silliness to brighten it up at parts. Kano feels very well thought out, and his narration is a delight to read.

Sakit, astaga. I lowkey ship them, as a strong relationship one, though.

Pada baris ini: ❝I thought I was used to the pain. But that was a grave mistake. To me, pain was something I needed to truly feel like myself. The only identity I really had.❞ Bagian ini sungguh bikin saya terdiam ... sigh.

Pada paralel "One day, on the street" dan "Today, on the street" itu sangat saya suka.

Saya merasa Kano punya semacam Fukube Satoshi's vibe. Huhu.

A lot of background in this novel. It's all told from Kano's point of view and it shows what a hero he really is. My heart went out to him and to young Kido and Seto.

As with all of these novels, it takes a few pages to get into the story. Although this volume was easier than the others. Probably because there was just one pov throughout the whole story.

Franchise wise, the stories here tie in with Anime episode 9 though there are some differences in the way things occur. The sequence of events seems to be the main difference.

Songs: Yobanashi deceive and Ayano's happiness theory.

As for the Manga: Mahirou Satou mentions a new storyline written by Jin as a Manga exclusive on his congratulatory picture at the end of this volume. I don't know how far along the Manga was, but I suspect the present timeline stories in this novel will be different in the Manga if they show up at all. The past timeline will probably stay the same.

Pretty much all Kano's pov.

Some things are revealed like the origin of the Mek, other things are hinted at, history seems to have been rewritten (that or one of the characters was so traumatized by an incident he literally forgot his friend he hung out with, etc etc), and then there's a chapter that ends up rushing through scenes and becoming mostly dialogue with no descriptions leaving me confused and frustrated because I have no idea what's going on, and the illustrations had nothing to do with what was written before and after them.

But what's worse is that with each vol that actually starts explaining the plot the more I'm realizing I may not like the plot and maybe it actually doesn't make sense.

Giving it one more vol, but I'm not enjoying where this is going.
