For years they were strangers despite their common origin. Then they were lovers. Now they're not quite friends. But Spider-Man and Silk have no option but to put all that behind them for a timetorn Team-Up, when they are sent back to just before they got their spider-powers! Can they let bygones be bygones, stop a sinister threat to reality as they knew it, and avoid accidentally wiping out the moment that gave them their amazing abilities? Maybe these two anachronistic arachnids could enlist some aid from a local Forest Hills man. His name's Ben Parker, you might know him? Spider and Silk face a date with destiny right back where it all began - the spectacular science fair that started it all!
COLLECTING: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN & SILK: THE SPIDER(FLY) EFFECT 1-4
Cindy (who I love, btw) and Pete take a twisty trip through time together. Twisty trip through time together? Say that 3 times fast! They have a pretty interesting history, and it makes all the back-and-forth quipping between them fun. Which is a good thing, because the plot of this thing is awfully thin.
The short version is that Cindy and Pete (for reasons that have nothing to do with this story) meet up for a fake fight, spy an odd flash of light, go to investigate, and end up getting sucked into the past by a robotic dinosaur suit (called Chronosauraus Rex) that was stolen from Hydra. Swear to god!
The premise is that these two, now depowered b/c of time travel tomfoolery, have to find a way to get all the butterflies to flap their wings at the right time, and then get back home without leaving a footprint. Luckily, they have a little help...
The addition of Uncle Ben adds enough of the Awwww! element to keep this from being a by-the-book snorefest, and coupled with Pete & Cindy's chemistry, it makes for a sufficiently adorable story.
If you're a huge Spider-man or Silk fan, you'll probably like this well enough, but if you've only got a passing interest in the characters, you can skip this one.
This was a fun little time-travel romp. There are some silly bits that don't make any sense (sure, it's cool to build your time-machine to make it look like a robot dinosaur, but why...?, and how come Ben doesn't recognize Peter...?, and ten years...we've just given up on continuity altogether...), but it was an entertaining read. The art is average, but the Peter-Cindy relationship is cute. Excelsior, dude.
Spider-Man and Silk get sucked back in time with Chronosaurus Rex and have to figure out how to stop Hyrda and get back to thier own time.
Robbie Thompson has potential. The back and forth bickering between Spider-Man and Silk was fantastic. There were some definite plot holes though that knocked a star off for me. First, why would Hydra build a time machine that looks like a robot dinosaur? Blends in real well with the locals, right? Then Peter comes across Uncle Ben unmasked and Ben doesn't recognize him. I don't care if he's 11 years older, the difference between a person at 16 and 27 is physically not that great. He even sits down for dinner with the rest of the family. I mean, come on! Longtime Spider-Man artist Todd Nuack provides his typical reliable artwork.
Amazing Spider-Man & Silk: The Spider(fly) Effect scratches my back in many of the right places.
I love Spider-Man. I love time travel. I love complete comic book stories in one collection.
Robbie Thompson's script is well-paced. No point in the story lags. There are a couple of twists that I didn't see coming. That's always a good thing.
The things I like most about Thompson's story are both associated with the story's time travel element. When Spider-Man and Silk are sent back in time, they find themselves stripped of their superpowers. So, they have to figure out how to get to their timeline and defeat HYDRA without relying on super-heroics.
Not to worry, they have help from an ex-Military Police officer - Ben Parker. I love the interaction between Peter and Uncle Ben. Peter's relationship with Uncle Ben has always reminded me of my relationship with my grandfather. Because of this, I'm a sucker for any story involving the two.
I've been a fan of Todd Nauck's vibrant style of illustration for years. It's nice to see him work on one of my favorite characters. He delivers in spades with colorful, stylistic panels that burst off each page.
Nauck's artwork is easy to follow. Although there are several double-page spreads and creative layouts, I was never confused about which part of the story I should read next.
This should've just been called "The Amazing Spider-Man: The Spider(fly) Effect" because Cindy Moon was a footnote.
I've heard so many great things about their friendship and I saw glimpses of it in the Silk series so I picked this up. Unfortunately, it's 90% Peter Parker and Cindy barely speaks.
This book has Cindy and Peter investigating a flash of light and coming across Chronosaurus Rex. Eventually Hydra show up and they accidentally follow Rex back in time. They're in Queens and Peter runs into Uncle Ben. The majority of the character development in this story is Pete getting to talk to Uncle Ben after becoming Spider-Man.
There's a tiny amount of Cindy Moon pondering whether she should warn herself before the bunker and the Spidey powers happen and I wanted so much more of that. Instead, it's like a line or 2 and then we're right back to the plot and Uncle Ben.
Don't get me wrong, Uncle Ben's a great guy but I just wished this book was more even towards Cindy. She felt like an afterthought.
Anyway, great to read if you love Spidey and don't care very much about Cindy Moon. If you're a Cindy Moon fan like I am, don't bother. Or read it on Marvel Unlimited if you have it.
—Any chance you guys just want to hug it out? —Think twice before answering: she gives great hugs, guys.
Oh my god! When is the next issue coming out?! I need it ASAP!

My poor baby Cindy, I love you so much. And by the way, I'm not sure what they're going to do is the right thing, but whatever.

—So you saw Looper? —What's Looper? —We really gotta update your Netflix queue. —Did you know Netflix can send stuff to your phone now? What a time to be alive and out of a bunker. —We also need to update your entire life.
Amazing! I am so glad Marvel didn't screw this one up. Love Spidey and Silk way too much. Can't wait for the next one!
—Seriously, were you always this strong? And always this fast? Did another spider bite you? —Maybe you're just getting old.
This was an enjoyable read but that doesn't change the fact that it's also quite terrible.
Spider-Man and Silk go to investigate an explosion and discover a person in a robotic dinosaur suit calling themselves "Chronosaurus Rex." After a brief battle, Chronosaurus Rex transports all three of them back in time.
Upon arriving in the past, they are immediately attacked by Hydra. During the fight, Spider-Man and Silk both lose their superpowers and Chronosaurus escapes. They are then rescued by a member of the neighborhood watch whocameby to investigate the sounds of fighting: Peter Parker's Uncle Ben.
It turns out they were brought back, entirely coincidentally to the day that Peter and Cindy were bitten by the spider. Meanwhile, Hydra has developed a dinosaur-shaped time machine but is unable to get it to work. The person they came back in time with was Ines, the 10-year old daughter of a Hydra employee who stole the machine so she could use it to convince her father to leave Hydra and thus prevent her parents' divorce.
Now Peter and Cindy have to ensure their younger selves get bitten by the spider, get the dino-suit and travel back to the future before Hydra can use it. Unfortunately, Uncle Ben tags along and kills the spider before it can bite Peter (Cindy then eats it but it doesn't give her powers).
Re-united, they decide to travel into the future to the moment briefly before Ines decided to travel back in time, convince her not to do it, and prevent this entire stupid adventure from happening.
Ignoring the enormously stupid plot, this was also one of Marvel's early attempts at a digital "infinite comic" and its pretty sloppy, with lots of re-used art, non-intuitive reading orders, and occasionally panels where Cindy and Peter are missing their feet or the tops of the heads. It kind of feels like an old Android phone game, which doesn't make for the best of reading experiences.

While I have been a Spider-Man fan. for over 40 years, I have not kept up with all the stories in the last few years, and I know next to nothing about Silk. Still, I was able to follow the story and enjoy it. It's been often said that the ONE character you can't bring back from the dead is Ben Parker.... But you could go back in time, right??? This story does just that, and our current Peter Parker finds himself about 10 years in the past.... You know he can't stay...you know he can't change the past.... but the journey is still fun.
Silly and fun and actually full of heart. Spider-man isn't my top favorite and I don't read it that much but this was a fun ride. It doesn't take it self too serious and the story of Spider-man and silk team up to take down a time travelling robot dinosaur reminds me of comics when I was a kid. I liked the story it is full of family and heart and watching uncle Ben kick ass was pretty cool. The art is perfect for the story, its meant for a younger audience and it works.
Výplňovka, kdy Spidey a Silk cestují do šedesátek a dají si týmovku se strejdou Benem. Chemie mezi ústřední dvojkou je fajn, příběh funguje, akorát konec trochu naštve,
Spider-Man and Silk haven't appeared together much since Silk was first introduced so it's nice to have a story featuring the two characters. The pair accidentally end up sent back in time where they must fact Hydra. The problem is that they return to the day they were both bitten by a radioactive spider and gained their spider powers.
The story's a good one but it does feel like something of a minor story given the scale of it. It goes back to the very origins of Spider-Man and Uncle Ben features prominently yet there never really feels like much of a threat. Speaking of which, it's great to have Uncle Ben here and see more of a character that is so important to Spider-Man yet has hardly appeared in his comics (because he's dead of course).
The thing I liked most about this story was the comedy elements. Thompson keeps everything fun like the banter between the lead characters, Uncle Ben not knowing Spidey's true identity and correcting him on the famous quote.
I thought the artwork was OK. This was originally made as a digital infinite comics and they don't always convert too well. Here I mostly liked the more dynamic panel style but it did make it confusing to read in places and missed out from not having large page spreads.
A decent additional Spider-Man story from a really good comics writer.
Meh. Yet another gimmicky time-travel thing. As superfluous as they come. In the end everything is put to right so much that actually nothing ever happened. Not even the characters remember, because - as just mentioned - nothing happened. Four issues and sixteen bucks* worth of nothing. Unless you count that it managed to make me dislike Uncle Ben. A complete waste of time, paper, and money. Two stars because I like Todd Nauck's work.
*not that I paid that much. You can get this thing cheap! (Small wonder...)
I don't really know what to think! That was fun but I didn't really like the art and the "danger" didn't really seemed dangerous and i just read this quickly. But the idea of the story is fun and I love time travel so I'll pick up next issue!
I enjoyed this storyline, it's the first Silk story I've read so I think it's a great introduction to the character.
Things I liked about this volume:
- Seeing Uncle Ben in action, I love the panel of Ben, Silk and Spidey "suiting up" to go into the warehouse. - The artwork is incredible, especially Chronosaurus Rex. - The relationship between Spidey and Silk was well-developed. - I haven't read the next books so I'm not sure, but it seems like they've set Silk up really well for her next story.
However, please for the love of God, Marvel, stop time travelling!!! I generally don't like time travel and especially in the marvel world the rules are so inconsistent as to how it works that it can be hard to follow. Also, it's just an overused trope nowadays. I know that it makes self-contained stories easier but it makes the stakes much lower because the timeline just resets at the end of the story. I'm sure there are much more interesting paths to take than time travel again.

I love Spidey and Silk's interactions but this was so mid. It's a fun little time travel sidequest just so Peter can hang out with Ben Parker idk.
Idk what is up with the digital ~infinite comics~ but it was super annoying to read with constant reused panels and weird sometimes confusing reading order.
I really wish Cindy had more to do here but she felt like a sidekick as it focused mainly on Peter.
Also plot hole city what the fuck. Like I hate time travel because it is always confusing and in here it was just plot hole city. Why the heck didn't Uncle Ben recognize Peter, or Cindy's family recognize her?? It's only ten years they would literally still look like themselves but Uncle Ben doesn't even question it. Weird ass. He was a badass though love to see it.
And I get making a time travel machine but why was the time travel machine a robot dinosaur like can anyone explain this to me or nah.
Yet another Marvel time travel story, this time with Spider-Man and Silk going back in time to witness the day that they got their Spider powers. There's a lot of decent humour in this lighthearted story, but the story itself is rather so-so. It is good to see Peter meeting with uncle Ben and getting to talk with him a bit, but uncle Ben is probably the stupidest man on earth for not recognising Peter for who he is after all the hints he keeps dropping.
The art is better than Silk's own series, which is a big bonus. In fact, the art style reminds me strongly of the somewhat naive 80's comics and it goes well with the rather innocent story.
It was fun to read action cop Ben Parker. It was also fun how playful the author was with the characters, the setting, and the history.
What drags this book down is that it goes well past Marvel Comics' standards for "realism." At a certain point, people with no real training go around fighting an army of armed soldiers. And win pretty handily. Hard to get invested in the conflict if the villain is so paper-thin.
Also, there's this really brutal handling of the characters' secret identities that makes no sense at all.
Hey. Remember in the Silk comic where Silk and Spider-Man stage a fake fight to cement her place undercover as a bad guy?
Well this entire story takes place within a few minutes of that fake fight.
It also takes a LOT longer because TIME TRAVEL!
Ok. It's ok. The main enjoyment in this story is the interplay between Peter and Cindy. There are also a few cameos from their past and some funny comic moments - but the stakes are still high.
I read this after reading Silk Volumes 1, 2 and 3 which I think helped me enjoy it more.
Just a casual little web-series (no pun intended) with tons of Spidey fanservice. Nothing great, but not a bad read. It was interesting to see Peter and Cindy go back in time and team up with Uncle Ben, revisit the moment they both got their powers, and reconnect with their lost loved ones. That said, this is totally skippable as .
wow. my first introduction to spiderman in comics and introduction to silk and wow i can say i have some new faves. they had a lot of chemistry and they worked together well, the humor came naturally between the two.
the story was good, i enjoyed it and seeing uncle ben and them going in the past was really emotional but the part with the harpers just didn't grab me.
an amazing way to start your journey into spiderman.
So, this isn't going win any awards but its a solid story that does a great job of showing exactly who Peter and Cindy are and where they come from. Its a simple, if that term can be used in time travel tales, story about trying to fix that one things that will make everything better and how that never works. The art was also a simple, albeit rushed offering from Todd Nauck. Overall, just a by the books Spidey time travel story.
This is a fairly decent ‘what if’ story that sees Silk and Spider-man going back 10 years to try and shape the future. Spidey sees Uncle Ben in a different light and Cindy attempts to stop her former self from creating the future Cindy knows. It’s an OK yarn with some decent dialogue. Art work is Marvel’s usual standard when it comes to an inconsequential side story.
3.5 stars. It's rare that time-travel stories are well-executed but this one definitely was! Spider-Man and Silk made a great and very humorous team. This just screamed classic Spidey to me. A cool little run for sure.
You’re telling me Uncle Ben couldn’t recognize Peter even though he did absolutely nothing to disguise his face. You’re also telling me that a 10 year old could break into Hydra 😐—also what is with Hydra looking like Kite Man??!
