The Deep Yes: The Lost Art of True Receiving

Rate this book
What does it mean to say Yes to receiving—without guilt or shame? How many of us can say that we use our bodies to do this with sleep, rest, food, touch or love? What would it add to our lives to learn the Deep Yes in ourselves? Could it help us with addictive or “stuck” behaviors? Could it be the change that makes all of the difference in our lives? In this wonderful new book, Dr. Rosalyn Dischiavo describes how and why people in western societies seem to have trouble with receiving and then offers simple practices you can use on a daily basis to create lasting happiness and contentment in your life.

“True receiving” as a conscious way of living is a new concept for me. Yes to enjoying and relishing food, yes to embracing sleep as welcome and healing, yes to acknowledging I am beautiful and embracing my sensuality with relish, yes to touch in all its varieties of purity and fulfillment, yes to sex-positive culture and education, and yes to love, especially from my partner! Have I missed feeling loved because I do not recognize or receive the love being offered to me? Allowing my mind, body, and spirit to perceive and receive all the happiness and joy surrounding me will become a daily practice as I continue to ponder this book. I feel encouraged to open my heart to the big YES and see what happens!

"Rabbi Marc Gafni talks about the exile of the erotic into the sexual. He says that we have unconsciously all our erotic pleasures; food, touch appreciation of beauty into the realm of sexuality. This is backward. Sexuality is a subset of eroticism, not the other way around."

I read this self-help book in conjunction with some of Audre Lorde's work; "The Uses of the Erotic; The Erotic as Power" and they went so well together! There's a lot of re-learning for me to do as I work through my own ideas of pleasure but Dr. Dischiavo is clear on how to get started; Say yes to the pleasures of food, sleep, touch, and the exquisiteness of living inside my own body. Be as open and mindful to depths of feeling in receiving as I am in giving.

This book was clear and well presented and I enjoyed reading about some of the unique awakening experiences of the author.

The easy-to-read book looks onto the issue so many of us struggle with - how to receive, rather than just give.

Dr. Dischiavo discusses a wide number of areas in which social mores and our cultural forces have moved us away from being able to fully embrace life. She provides personal stories and examples from her long professional career.

This book was a joy to consume, and I have been transformed as a result. I invite you to explore her message for yourself.
