Every day they see the cemetery standing alone on the block. Thirteen-year-old Suellen Blanchard, her two friends Sabrina "Slim" Morrison and Brandon Dowell, and her twelve-year-old brother Andre never really thought much of it. Until Suellen notices the shadow of someone walking around inside the decrepit funeral home building. When the friends are later told a brief history of the funeral home and an ominous ghost story that has spread throughout their town over many years, they decide to delve deeper into the town's urban legend by entering the graveyard the following night.

But during their late night trespassing, they're caught up in some unexpected trouble and are forced to escape. However, once they leave the cemetery, the real terror begins. A mysterious knock on the door after they return home that night. An intruder breaking in. And a strange vehicle trailing one of them home after school. What could possibly be behind these odd occurrences? Is it a curse for not allowing the dead to rest in peace...or is it something more?
They've trespassed upon more than just the lonely graves of the dead. And other secrets dwell within an old, abandoned graveyard.

Since an early age, I loved reading books by R.L. Stine, Stephen King, James Baldwin, Christopher Paul Curtis, and Mildred Taylor. Some of my new favorite authors include S.A. Cosby, Darcy Coates, Riley Sager, T.J. Newman, Victor LaValle, Kwame Alexander, John Darryl Winston, Tomi Adeyami, Kiersten Modglin, and Adrian McKinty. It was my love for reading that helped hone my skills and gradually manifested into a passion for writing.

My latest suspense thriller 'Night Ghost' is available on Amazon.

Nick C. Brady has a gift for setting the scene, crafting characters, and creating suspense. Night Ghost reads like anything but a first novel as words connect and passages flow, making for a hypnotic experience. Brady gets it. He doesn’t tell but rather shows in a way that feels as much cinematic as it does literary. Feel it. “The room fell quiet again, as if the woman’s scream had somehow paralyzed them. It was so loud, so frightening, so demoralizing, the sound of it would forever be engraved in their memory.”

Characterization is definitely a strength of Brady’s writing. He introduces us to Suellen, Slim, Brandon, and Andre early and effectively in an economic fashion that doesn’t bog down the narrative. Their personalities are distinct from each other in the way they dress, talk, and carry themselves. In short, it’s easy to tell them apart whether Brady is tagging their dialogue or not. Here’s another tastes. “Panting robustly, she rubbed a hand across her neck, just to be convinced nothing was there. The horrid sensation of the cold, strapping hand still lingered, the entire nightmare pinned to her memory, refusing to die.”

And the plot. Did I mention the creation of suspense? Brady does it well. He ups the ante in the way of tension, continuously until the very end when the Night Ghost, Albert Sanderson, is finally revealed. Yikes. There are a lot of close calls and twists and turns that keep the reader on their literary toes. Brady also does a great job with the chapter cliffhangers. I found myself late for a few appointments because of these little tidbits. This short, easy must-read was hard to put down.

Brady does a phenomenal job of combining action, dialogue, and description the sign of a skilled writer. Here’s a bit more for the road. “Suellen and Andre faced the basement doorway and squinted into the darkness that lay on the other side. All the comfort they had ever felt in their home had now shifted to trepidation.” And, “Some of the trees below had lost limbs and branches during the ice storm. The ones that remained were blanketed with a small portion of snow. The dry dead leaves that hid the dull grass were also covered in white.”

Highly recommended!

Night Ghost by Nick C Brady was not my cup of tea. I knew that this was a book that was appropriate for the young adult crowd but went into it anyways. I was bored from the get go and read through the whole thing for no apparent reason. I never liked any of the characters and the story really didn't go anywhere.

Oh well, this was not for me and I am not sure why I even finished it. At least it was free on Kindle unlimited.

Brady’s latest follows the misadventures of a curious group of junior high school friends, who find themselves entrapped in a dangerous conspiracy where spooky ghosts and vengeful monsters become almost real.

For the junior high school friends Suellen, Brandon, and Slim and Suellen’s younger brother Andre, the abandoned cemetery on their way home from school holds a fascinating attraction with sinister stories floating around its origin. Deciding to investigate the authenticity of the menacing ghost story, the group decides to trespass one night. But they trespass upon more than just the lonely graves of the dead. After escaping the terrorizing situation, the real trouble begins.

The tension builds as the teenagers find themselves being stalked, preyed upon, and terrorized by an enigmatic figure. Soon, it becomes clear that the danger threatening their lives was more real than they originally thought it to be.

Brady's smoothly paced narration pulls readers into a spooky and engrossing story of adolescent adventure and intrigues. Suellen’s struggles with her fears, insecurities, and her exasperation at Andre’s behavior make her thoroughly realistic, flesh-and-blood character. That she maintains a brave front despite her inner fear serves to render her individual struggles even more touching. The other protagonists are sketched with equal authenticity, and Brady successfully channel their inner quirks and trepidations.

Brady’s prose is simple, and he skillfully keeps the tension ripe throughout with surprising revelations and plenty of suspense in the back.

This is an entertaining, well-paced middle grade thriller.

I'm perfectly happy to read anything that is put in front of me, so when I read the synopsis for Night Ghost, a book for younger kids (RL Stine readers) I grabbed it. It was fun. The kids, a sister and younger brother, and the sister's friends, all got along. The big scare was if anyone jumped over the grave of an old, angry man, they would be haunted. Guess who all scoffs at this and goes to the cemetery. It immediately goes bad, as one of the girls sees a light on in the abandoned funeral home. Then the cops arrive, and the kids flee. One of the kids thinks they are being followed by something as they race through the woods. Soon there are loud knocks at the door, a red Oldsmobile almost runs over one of the kids, and the terror keeps escalating. I like stories where things go bump in the night and like to turn on all the lights at night. So the book was a quick, easy, spooky book even for adults. Plus for all the people who don't like wise-ass kids, this group were actually nice and respectful of their parents. Points for that, too.

A very new millennial twist to Nancy Drew and friends mysteries

I got to hand it to you Nick I really didn't think I would enjoy this YA mystery but you sure fooled me.
You have a great way with words and story telling
The storyline, characters and dialogue were well played and I throughly enjoyed the story from beginning to end. It is not just for YA.

From the first page, The Night Ghost lures you into what seems like a straight-up paranormal mystery—only to twist in ways you won’t see coming. At its heart, the story follows a group of teenagers who band together to confront something truly terrifying. Their resourcefulness and camaraderie drive a tightly woven plot that balances spine-tingling suspense with moments of genuine warmth.

What really sets Brady apart is his character work and atmospheric touch. Each teen feels distinct and age-appropriate, from their quirks and insecurities to a shared love of fashion that adds unexpected charm. Brady reveals personality through sharp dialogue and action—no needless exposition—so you quickly care about their triumphs and setbacks.

The small-town Indiana setting is equally vivid. Brady captures everyday life with a nostalgic eye, capturing the hum of the wind, the way light falls, and the rustle of trees, among other things. These grounded details make the supernatural elements all the more unsettling, as though the ordinary world could slip into something darker at any moment.

Told in third-person limited—mostly through the eyes of a thirteen-year-old girl—Brady nails the emotional pitch of youth: her fears, hopes, and developing courage feel utterly authentic. The central conflict is monumental, propelling these ordinary kids into high-stakes twists and turns. Yet it’s their friendships—the way they lean on each other’s strengths—that ultimately makes the story soar.

The Night Ghost is a brilliantly executed blend of horror and coming-of-age. If you love mysterious thrills grounded in richly drawn characters and a lovingly rendered hometown, Brady’s novel will keep you up all night—reading under the covers.

"Night Ghost" by Nick Brady is a fun, chilling and suspenseful book that I had an absolute blast reading. With a great cast of kids, a free-flowing and compulsively readable writing style and a nostalgic nod to old classics by R.L. Stine and Richie Tankersley Cusick, this book will give you chills, thrills and an enjoyable few hours of reading. I was very impressed with Mr. Brady's writing style and vocabulary, which is perfect for younger readers, as well as adults. It was definitely a fun trip down memory lane, recalling to mind when I was younger and used to read these types of books all the time. And it would also make for a very good movie.

I was privileged to read a paperback copy of the book and just want to say that it was very well done, with interior illustration at each chapter heading that added to the appeal of the book. Overall, the author did a fantastic job and I'd definitely be interested in more stories featuring this intrepid group of junior high school friends, who really know how to hold their own against ghosts, monsters and all things that go bump in the night.

**I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review**
