*** THIS IS A PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED BOOK ***Brit wants to get on with her life and leave her rough past far behind. Most of the cowboys who end up in her care are cranky old ex-rodeo stars. But not the new guy. He’s a tall, mouthwatering hunk with the hottest body she’s ever seen. And she can see it all, since not one inch of that incredible flesh is hidden from her gaze. The blunt, crude man shocks Brit a bit when he flat-out tries to get her into his bed…immediately.Brit is the sexiest woman River has ever come across. Every time he thinks he’s starting to tame her, she tries to bolt from his life. He’s a man who always gets what he wants and the more time he spends with the mouthy, stubborn woman, the more convinced he becomes that he can never give her up. Good thing for him he’s not above chaining a woman to his bed if that’s what it takes to keep her right where he wants her—under him.
I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.
The second Raine brother. Nice enjoyable story, too. River is a rodeo cowboy and Brit is a physical therapist. River is an impossible flirt, full of himself, playboy, a guy who used to share women with his twin brother and of course a rather domineering male. But as the book proceeds you can realise that he is also very protective, caring and a really good man. Brit is running and hiding for the past few years. She used to be married to an impossible asshole who was torturing and imprisoned her and taken away her free will before he ended up behind bars. When River and Brit meet, the hit it off straight away. The first scene and the first seduction of Brit by River was delisiously funny. Afterwards Brit just runs away, until they meet again and this time Brit cannot run away fast enough. While she is hiding from her ex husband who is no longer in prison, River will find her again at his ranch, at his room (with a ton of sex books on the shelves) sleeping in his bed (with hidden chains in the bed canopy). Talking about coincidences... There are some series of running and seducing and the two lovebirds will continue jumping each other bones every other page and they will continue doing it senselessly through out the book. Highly recommended, if you like stories with native Americans, fierce protective cowboys, tortured heroines and happy endings with strange marriage proposals.
I went in expecting lots and lots of sex, since it is LD's book. But this one was too effing much for me.
The whole book was sex, drama with the boss, sex, sex, running away to hide from abusive ex-husband, sex, sex, sex, went out a bit to the bar, sex, sex, sex, ex-husband appeared pointing gun, sex, sex, sex, running away to save boyfriend from abusive ex-husband's father, sex, sex, let's get married, the end.
Seriously, too effing much! When story lines gave way for sex, it got boring very fast. (and be glad that I use sex instead of some other choice words).
I liked this book even more than book one. This book had a little more suspense and it was a little more thrilling.
We still get the animalistic yumminess of the first book but just in a little bit of a different way.
Brit is a character I feel for, but also admire because she has had to fight for herself and she came out on top. River wasn’t a favorite character of mine especially in the beginning, but he grows on you and you can’t help but love the way he falls for Brit and how he will do anything it takes to keep her safe.
The dynamic between all the brothers is fun to listen to and I also think Liz Chastain doesn’t a fabulous job with the characters and not only that her male voice... Spot on!
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
Doing a favor for her boss, Brit shows up at a rundown trailer to check on a cowboy who injured himself in the rodeo, figuring it is another old man she is blown away by the very virile naked man in bed. River tests all of Brit's patience as he makes his attentions known that the only way he will feel better is if she is administering her skills in bed underneath him. Giving into her basic needs, it has been a long time, she imbibes in the gift he is so willingly offering only to bolt the second his back is turned.
River can't get the hellcat he had in bed out of his mind, imagine his surprise when he returns home only to find her in his other bed. River plans to get to the bottom of what Brit is running from, even if it means tying her to the bed and never letting her go.
I decided to reread because I did not have a written review on this one. Brit is running from an ex who will stop at nothing to get her back. River is pure primal alpha, he has an interesting nickname for Brit that raises a few chuckles and they way he goes about setting to claim Brit as his own is hilarious.
Where's the Raine ranch and why can't I stumble upon it?! I loved this book as much as the first. We learn a lot more about the Raine family in this book and River (and his ego) had me laughing many, many times. This series will definitely be added to my "read again" pile.
I started this book right after I finished book one Propositioning Mr. Raine, I found myself falling for the Raine brothers and wanting more( and I still do after finishing this book). As with all of Mrs. Dohner's books I really enjoyed it, she is a great author that I know I can turn to for a great book filled with great story lines, fantastic characters both main and side characters, funny bits, hot bits, and as always a hot hero. This was just was I needed to tide me over till more of Laurann Dohner books are released.
Brit was asked by her boss to check on a family friend and to help him out, but she never expected to find the likes of River Raine he isn't like her regular Physical Therapy clients and when the sparks fly Brit does something she has never done. She sleeps with him and even though it is great she is mortified and afraid she will loose her job so she flees. When Brit gets word that her ex husband has been released from prison her boss sends her to a friends house to hide out till he winds back up in prison again. At the Raine ranch Brit meets Trina and Navarro and quickly feels at home till she is woken up from her sleep by none other than River and she finds out she is in his bed no less.
River is stunned to find Brit in his bed at his families ranch and when he finds out she will be there for several weeks he decides to make the best of it. As River and Brit get to know each other and spend more time together they start to fall in love but Brit's painful past holds Brit back from completely giving herself to River. As with the Raine way River's brothers start to meddle and Brit finds out that she can't hide forever and that her ex has made plans of his own for her. Soon Brit and River will be faced with decisions that will change their lives one way or the other and they will have to decide if they are willing to take a chance on the other or if it's easier to live safe and unhappy.
This was a great book two in this series, I loved River and Brit and fell more in love with the Raine brothers. I can't wait for the rest of their books in this series. Laurann Dohner is a brilliant author that is on auto buy/read for me. This series is great fun and though silly a times I enjoyed every minute of it. Unfortunately it is against the law to kidnap authors and stuff them in rooms with only food, a pillow, and a computer so that they can write faster and more(ugh). So I can only hope that more LD will be coming soon.
They didn't waste anytime getting to the good stuff. Brit meets River as a physical therapist and River being the impossible flirt makes his moves on her. Initially, Brit refutes his advances but River is relentless with his come ons. In an uncharacteristic fashion she says why not. She was lonely and figured she deserved this with how rough she's had it. River is a handful and some. He is all about getting it on and on and on. She has to trick him to escape his sexathon he has planned for her. When she discovers that her ex is out of prison she goes into hiding on a ranch. Ends up the ranch belongs to River's family. When River comes home he finds Goldilocks asleep in his bed. Things eventually heat back up when Britt stops fighting it. She wants to leave and she's uncomfortable with this situation. There's a lot going on here she doesn't know about and she's keeping secrets too. River isn't opposed to jumping Brit any old place he finds her and after Ryder (his twin brother and sometimes ménage partner)witnessed one of these couplings he thinks she's their new toy River sets him straight that that is not happening. River has a bit of a kink and in the past his brother Ryder and him liked to share. River can't get enough of Brit and they burn up the sheets constantly until her past catches up to her. After a deadly ending to her ex husbands surprise attack, she fears for River's life knowing that her father-in-law is gunning for them. She hatches the plan to run off and draw the attention away from River. With quite a convoluted chain of events River catches up to Brit and just in time to rescue her from her father-in-law's wrath. River still had to convince her that they have a future together and a proposal to make. But he's got a plan and hand cuffs. He's not letting her run off this time.
From the first page in Rain On Me by Laura Dohner I was hooked. River has no qualms with who he is and the type of help he needs. I found the beginning comical and very sexy with the sparks already flying between Brit the heroine and River the Hero. And then she had to end up in his testosterone filled home. Did I mention there are brothers who are just as sexy as our hero?
Brit is a great heroine who wants to stand on her own and maintain her independence. River’s nickname for her really had me in titters every time he addressed her by it.
Trouble lurked for our gorgeous heroine and who better to protect her than the Raine Brood. The erupting violence kept me turning the pages, as much as the heroine who continued to run instead of standing still. I hoped she’d allow herself to be loved and that the never settling down River would find the special gem she was and well worth the price of bachelorhood and debauchery the brothers were often rightly accused of. Through it all it was wonderful to see so many family dynamics and real life occurrences. I’ll definitely be waiting for the next in the series to release. I really enjoyed Raine On Me and can’t wait to tell my friends to go and buy it.
Sweet baby Jesus, River takes the cake for great first impressions, "hello, baby. How the hell did I black you out? Since I can't remember, let's start over. You can refresh my memory after I'm done effing you." He's a bossy man and wants his own way, "no. I don't want to let you go. I want to strip you down and eff you. That would be the best physical therapy you could give me." He's hygienic, "I'm really happy to see you." Her gaze jerked away from the impressive hard-on. His thick co** had been circumcised and at the moment he seemed to be very turned on. The guy shaved his lower area. She couldn't miss that since his legs were enough to reveal everything to her. The had ball all right - shaved, heavy ones." He's protective, "you're definitely not leaving, baby. I'd never hit you. I might be an a** about some s*** but know that, okay? I'd never hurt you." I mean VERY protective, "that effing bas**** is dead," River snarled." The more books I read by Laurann the more I love her writing.
Sincerely, I am a fan of Laurann Dohner but this is the first of her books that I have not enjoyed. I don't like romances/plot structures propped up by dishonest characters, instant inexplicable lifetime mating attraction and a story drawn out by mis-communication and misunderstandings. It seems to be the last straw of the unoriginal romantic writer. I have read everything by Ms. Dohner and I have to say that she always gave great stories with reactions and twists that I never saw coming. She is good at what she does in her genre. I feel like someone else wrote this one.
Sexy Native American-Cowboys with long gorgeous hair --Holy Hawtness!!
Re-Readworthy: #1 & 2 are a definite.
Abstract: Physical therapist Brit is sent by her boss to check-in on one of his close family friends, what she thinks will be a elderly broken-down rodeo-cowboy. She walks into River's rodeo trailer, only to discover he's not elderly or broken-down--just SCALDINGLY HOT, naked and passed-out. When Mr. Playboy wakes, he assumes she's a rodeo-groupie wanting "it" from him. He proceeds to hilariously tantalize her, and since she has avoided intimacy for years, she finally breaks & goes for it. After, she runs off. Her father-figure boss tells her crazed super-rich stalker-ex who imprisoned & tortured her is out of prison, so he sends her to a close friends' ranch to hide. Guess who's going to wake up in the wrong bed tonight! She thinks River's stalking her, and he thinks she's a groupie stalking him. Lots of escapades follow that partially work on desensitization for her previous tortures, and trust building. River learns there's somethings he doesn't want to share with his kinky twin brother.
Laurann Dohner!! --Would LOVE more in the series! AND more twists, turns & dramatics in the existing relationships, with sections in those people's voices. Add Novellas in-between, to cover dramatic emotional ups & downs, & mix-in misunderstandings & bad guys, ex: a #1.5 to cover the wedding, fertility & conceiving issues (fireworks) after book #1. Plus later scandals & fireworks, as I personally know people who's sterilizations self-repaired & caused a huge amount of soap-opera drama. Ooh La La, cannot wait!
Brit needs to run and hide when her ex-husband is released from prison, her boss and friend knows a place where she can lay low. Quite a coincidence that it´s the ranch of the Raines, and she just the day before met River. They´re sizzling together but her past is soon catching up with them all. Lots of steamy smut, suspense and justice biting someone in his ass.
This second book in series is awesome. The story is fantastic and the kinky sex is hot. I love Native American heritage and their lovely long hair in story's. with this book u get a little more of Trina and Navarro life which i really like and u get to meet more of the brothers in this story. Really great HEA. Really looking forward to more Raine story's.
Another good entry into the Raines series. This one is darker than the first one. Some aspects felt a bit contrived but, all in all, it was an entertaining story.
Erotica I get - don't really care for it, but I get. Romance I get. Romantica - that weird blend of erotica and romance with the requisite HEA - sometimes I get, and sometimes I don't. I don't mind the kink, just don't think the H stalking, forcing the h into a relationship, refusing to take no for an answer, etc., really belongs in a contemporary romance. Maybe it's because of the v. real issues with stalkers, rapists, etc. Well, that and in some cases, sexual harassment. Makes suspension of belief difficult. And sometimes... there are other things that make me shake my head.
Our h goes to find our H for physical therapy. The synopsis on the back leads one to believe that she at least puts up some resistance. The synopsis lied. Half an hour after she meets Mr Tall, Dark, Handsome player, she's on her back with her legs in the air - literally. She manages to leave his motorhome. End of chapter 1. Beginning of chapter 2, we discover she's working under the table, her abusive ex has just gotten out of prison, and she needs to go into hiding. Disbelief falls flat on my lap. Say what?! She's been in an abusive relationship and just boinked a guy half an hour after meeting him? Errrr... It just keeps piling up there. though. She shows fear and yet lets the H use restraints - which he has no hesitation about using, I might add. What kind of man uses things like that on a woman he knows is scared? All the reassurance in the world is nothing but hot air in the face of bad experience. Lots of things like this happen though - he or his siblings do something to remind her of her past, they tell her it'll never happen again, and she's good to go. And the H practically keeps her prisoner.
Sounds like I hated it, doesn't it? Truth to tell, I'm not sure why I liked it. Maybe because I did like the characters even if I did feel like maybe the author should have left this sort of damaged h alone. Not the first time though that I've run into a romantica where the h had such a past and apparently suffered no ill effects like say PTSS. Maybe if authors can't deal properly with issues like this, they should leave it someone who can.
Errrggg, the author lost me right at the beginning of the story. Not because they jumped at each others bones right from the start or boinked each other senseless, but because the heroine was too weak for this reader. The getting acquainted scene between Brit and River is quite funny. She's a physical therapist and sent to his ranch to help him recover from an accident, he's a perpetually horny man who tries with all his might and “attributes” to get her into his bed.
Brit resists him beautifully and counters his advances in a sassy, convincing and very funny way. I really liked her, because she seemed to have spunk and even though she was very attracted to River, she was able to stay professional and not jump his bones right away.
And then, after that highly entertaining and humorous opening scene, what does she do, she switches personality and claims she can't resist him anymore and like a damsel in distress lets herself be seduced by his rather obvious charm.
This book had a very promising set up, especially for someone on the look out for a funny love story with sexy love scenes and nice characters. But sometimes erotic romance authors just don’t seem to get that even with steamy stories readers need time to connect with the characters and expect more than Duracell-powered energizer bunny non-stop sex right from the first chapter. I acutally want to like the characters I dedicate my reading time to. DNF.
LD is one of my favorite writers. I have read all her new species books several times each, several of her Cyborg Seductions and Zorn Warrior books and all of the VLG in both ebook form and audiobook. I have even read the Mating heat series once. But this is a series I just can't get into. In the beginning of the book the heroine is willing to jeopardize her career by having sex with someone she didn't even know. The man at first impression is crass, disrespectful without an ounce of sincerity and she goes and have sex with him. I keep planning to read the remainder of her books but I guess there are just some that are not meant for me.
This book is pretty derogatory against Native Americans- River calls his dad a drunk and his Mother a whore. Although River looks Caucasian on the book cover.
The stuff about her and her ex husband was disgusting.
It's like the exes have to be psychos so the Raine boys don't look like juvenile bullies.
This book was a bit icky.
I think I'll stop with the series here. I'd like some nice respectful Native American romance novels.
I thought the first in the series was great well this one is amazing. Laurann Dohner does not disappoint ever. I love her writing. I cant wait for the next in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review. I rated it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Brit just wants to get her life back after a disastrous marriage, what she didn't count on was her ex husband, Kyle Marthum, and his father never letting her go. Brit can't keep a job or an apartment until Dale hires her as a physical therapist for his business. The cowboys she usually treats are old and crotchety, but not the new one Dale sends her to check on. He's young, tan and has the best body she's ever seen.
When River is awakened from his whiskey induced sleep by a woman in his bedroom, he thinks she's very beautiful, and he's ready to give her a tumble in his bed. Try as he might, the stubborn woman keeps turning down his proposals of sex, and being turned down is something River isn't used to.
The last thing Brit needs is an involvement with a client, even though that client is sexy as hell. She doesn't even want a relationship with anyone. River is determined to get to know Brit no matter how hard she resists. He is, after all a cowboy and knows how to use a rope or two.
This book is a great roller coaster ride with great characters, lots of emotions, fantastic hot sex, and a surprise turn here and there. Raine on Me by Laurann Dohner grabbed me on the first page and really hasn't let go even though I've finished the book. River is a rodeo cowboy who lives his life hard and fast. He's very confident, a little complex, and knows his way around a woman. I liked how when Brit came into his life, they had an instant connection between them.
Brit has been through hell with her ex husband and his father. Kyle and Kevin are very inventive when it comes to hurting people to get what they want. And the Marthum men want Brit to pay. These guys are so bad, that I was so hoping that they would be caught, thrown in jail and the key tossed in the trash. I admire Brit's ability to endure her ex husband’s wrath and her courage to do what she had to. I don't think Brit saw herself as a strong woman, but she was.
Ms. Dohner has done a fabulous job of world building, with colorful, larger than life characters, that seem so real in this book two of Riding the Raines series. You can bet that I will read book one, and then the rest of this series as it comes out. If you like your cowboys’ hunky, hot and hard, then Raine on Me is the book for you.
Laurann Dohner's provides the reader with many fantasy ideas as she lays the plots we long to read in her new series, Riding the Raines. I predict this writer is well on her way to being crowned one of the ruling queens of erotic romance. I know I've placed her in my favorite writers category!
Her main character in Raine on Me is River (Moon) Raine who is a mouthwatering eye-treat and just flat-out sexy. River is a Native American cowboy who can cause any warm-blooded gal to lose all perspective just by flashing his devastatingly cute smile. It's just icing on the cake that this sex-god is built like a tank.
I personally would not mind River raining over me anytime! However River finds his true love, Brit Sheryl in this story, leaving us readers with only fictional fantasies.
River is a thrill seeker who took on one too many rodeos. Brit is a physical therapist who was sent by River's old family friend Dale, to help River recover from his injuries. Brit was expecting an old, washed-up wanna-be rodeo star but instead she finds her dream lover in bed. River wakes up to see the sexiest woman he has ever seen standing in his bedroom. He cannot help but to convince her to be with him, after all she must be a dream right? The major obstacle? Brit is hiding from a rich abusive ex and in the end only River can help save her from almost certain death.
Ms. Dohner has done an exceptional job at pulling this reader into her story completely. She gives us glimpses into the wonderful secondary characters, making one want to read what happens to them eventually. Her love scenes where exceptionally hot and I read this story without taking a break. I have already flagged this book as a keeper.
Looking for a romance with drama and action? Well this modern day cowboy who knows how to please a lady is a fantasy hero one can definitely curl-up with! After I read Raine on Me, I found myself going to Ellora's Cave to purchase the first book in the Riding the Raines series. Now I can't wait for the next Raine man book! Yum-Yum!
Raine on Me by Laurann Dohner is the second book in the Riding the Raines series. It is a romance that is heavy on the erotica which is typical of Laurann Dohner books. The characters are well done and the plot is interesting. There is danger and a touch of action. Brit is a great character but River was a little pushy with his seduction of her. It would have been nice to have seen him wait at least once to get what he wants. Brit gave into him a little too easily but River is such a sexy character it’s hard to blame her.
Overall, Raine on me is a great book. Brit is full of spunk and her relationship with River is sweet at times, funny at others and always steamy. River is an Alpha male but he isn’t afraid to show his softer side. The Raine brothers were a fun element in this story. The family dynamics are a joy to read and it makes you anxious for more of the Riding the Raines series.
Of all the books I've read by Laurann this one wasn't enjoyable at all. I still don't know how the average rating is 4. The writing is so drawn out. It made me think of run on sentences. Even me who is not a writer can come up with something like that. There's no art to it. It's just too plain. I struggled to read it out, and only did because I do not like to leave something I start uncompleted.
The part that especially got me irritated was when the heroine ran away close to the end thinking that she was going to save the hero from harm. That's understandable but Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! So so lame. And then the boring explanation of why she did so after the Raines went to collect her at the police. I was like Oh come on its like if I've read it all before from other authors. I'm just saying this book could have done with some nice refining to make it a little more interesting.
Love this series. The Raine brothers are so hot. This is the story about River Raine, a rodeo cowboy that is wild and tough. I think I almost like this story better than the first one. The heroine, Brit, is feisty, but unavailable. The Hero is fun, domineering, and a huge playboy. He never plans to settle down, but can't resist this women who shows up at his bedside where he is nursing some injuries. After a hot, sexy meet and greet, she runs, but they meet again soon, and he decides they need to have sex until they get each other out of their systems. However our poor River has no idea he is about to get hit in the heart by this feisty women who turns his life upside down. She is running from a dangerous past, and tries to run from love. Can't go wrong with he Raine brothers, and I can't wait for the next installment.
