Taken from a series designed to show children how to care for small creatures found in gardens, parks or open spaces, this book deals with ants. The aim of the series is to encourage children to care for living things, however small or plentiful.
This book teaches us how to take care of ants. It tells us what ants are, where they live, how to collect them, make a home for them, feed them, breed them, and finally, how to release them into the wild.
I’m giving this book three stars because I found it pretty boring. The images were interesting and high definition and the text was informational but it was all a bit plain. I did like the unusual facts on the back such as “Queen ants normally mate once, can live for up to fifteen years and lay thousands and thousands of eggs”. I feel like these fun facts could have been incorporated into the story in a more fun way.
I would read this in a science class or to your child if they are showing interest in having an ant farm.
