In this sixth book in the laugh-out-loud My Weirdest School series, the teachers of Ella Mentry School are on strike! Perfect for reluctant readers and word lovers alike, Dan Gutman's hugely popular My Weird School series has something for everyone. Don't miss the hilarious adventures of A.J. and the gang!
The author of over 80 books in a little over a decade of writing, Dan Gutman has written on topics from computers to baseball. Beginning his freelance career as a nonfiction author dealing mostly with sports for adults and young readers, Gutman has concentrated on juvenile fiction since 1995. His most popular titles include the time-travel sports book Honus and Me and its sequels, and a clutch of baseball books, including The Green Monster from Left Field. From hopeful and very youthful presidential candidates to stunt men, nothing is off limits in Gutman's fertile imagination. As he noted on his author Web site, since writing his first novel, They Came from Centerfield, in 1994, he has been hooked on fiction. "It was fun to write, kids loved it, and I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to take a blank page and turn it into a WORLD."
Gutman was born in New York City in 1955, but moved to Newark, New Jersey the following year and spent his youth there.
The teachers at Ella Mentry School are on strike, and Mr. Nick is taking over as principal and has his hippie friends as teachers. Never before did A.J. just want to learn! What will the children of the school do to get back their teachers?
Another fun edition to this series. My seven-year-old son loves them.
man showed up with a box and they opened it. It was a coffee machine. Everyone was confused and then they saw there teachers coming back. They all celebrated. This book was so funny. I love tLevin Martin,
My book is Mr. Nick is a Lunatic! By Dan Gutman
When they came to class there was no teacher in any classroom. They went out in the hall and there were 2 girls that asked is your teacher was gone too and they said yeah no teachers in school. Andrea and Alexia and Ryin and Aj were all confused; they had no clue where all the teachers went. They have a code and its the piece sign that means shut up. So they all did the piece sign when people didn’t stop talking. There first class they had a substitute and she said you have to say something to love about the person to your left and Andrea and Aj hate each other so Aj had to say something he loves about here and he said I love when shes absent
Then they had art class with mr. Bob was a dentist and knew nothing about art so he made Aj open his mouth and he stuck his fingers in his mouth. Then he told the class to draw pictures of their mouths. So next they went to lunch and the lunch lady said that they can have anything they want so they all said what they wanted and she said no sorry I can’t do that she couldn’t make anything for lunch for them. They all got water for lunch.
They all went outside to hold up their signs on where their teachers are and more signs. Dr. Carbles cme rolling in with a tank and asked why they weren’t in class. And then a delivery his book. I rate it a five out of five. I recommend this book to whoever likes funny stories
I read this while working at the dance studio either on my breaks or when I was bored but WOWWW this was so FUNNY?? AJ annoying Andrea and just coming off as funny without realizing it, the adults being on crazy logic, and the whole water soup thing 😭 The fact that the humor still holds up for me as a teen/adult is how you know it's truly funny.
I miss reading this series in elementary school, I can't wait to reread them in my spare time!

Its a funny book. And I can't believe a dentist a art teacher. His diet chef a lunch lady. And that lady gives them water for lunch. We need food for lunch. Not liquid I wonder if Mr nick drinks water only for lunch dinner and the most important meal of the day breakfast!

I thought this book was really good. I thought it was really funny how the teachers were on strike because of coffee. The book was also very interesting because Aj's school all had different teachers. The thing is none of the new teachers actually knew something of what they were teaching. The things I didn't like is how AJ's best friends him and his enemy Andrea are always in love and how all the cook served for lunch is water. Overall I think this book is amazing.
THE best book I have read in a long time. Fresh. Relatable. Funny! Satire [about modern day controversies/discussions/hot topics/American habits and politics]: Starbucks, strikes, school lunches, and better. Sounds awful but it's light; kids and parents will both get the jokes. Fun to read together. Great opener for deeper learning opportunities if one so inclines. Otherwise, it's just plain fun :)
Lots of name-calling and bullying just because people are different. This is perhaps to be expected for the teachers, because they are really, really strange in a comical way. But any student who is even slightly different from the norm is also labeled, mocked, and antagonized by the main characters. I certainly wouldn’t want my kids reading this book.
The teachers revolt and will not work without coffee. After the strike the kids must have fill in fake teachers for the day. It does not turn out groovy and the kids want to strike too. Funny
