About the author

Charu Nivedita (born 18 December 1953) is a postmodern, transgressive Tamil writer, based in Chennai, India. His novel Zero Degree was longlisted for the 2013 edition of Jan Michalski Prize for Literature. Zero Degree was inducted into the prestigious '50 Writers, 50 Books - The Best of Indian Fiction', published by HarperCollins. Vahni Capildeo places Charu Nivedita on par with Vladimir Nabokov, James Joyce and Jean Genet, in her article in the Caribbean Review of Books. He was selected as one among 'Top Ten Indians of the Decade 2001 - 2010' by The Economic Times. He is inspired by Marquis de Sade and Andal. His columns appear in magazines such as Art Review Asia, The Asian Age and Deccan Chronicle.

This book is a 'Gateway' or 'Golden-path" to the 'Modern and Post Modern' Tamil literature which is hidden now like a 'Treasure' unknown due to Society's negligence(to be frank abandonment). The author thus decided to pay tribute to his predecessor of the literature, thereby highlighting glimpses of their greatness and great works in this book. I begun my journey in this Golden-path under his guidance and hope to continue it in future by witnessing the treasure forever. Thank you 'Charu'.

Gateway to the tamil literature

I read charu degam book long before (Dec 2016) and I commented what I felt. Now I read this book and I understood charus view on literature. A very good book for the beginners and it indirectly pushed me to read the degam again.

ஆக சிறந்த ஒரு நூல். கொண்டாடப்பட வேண்டியவர்களை மறந்து/மறுத்து போனதால், அவர்களை இந்த கட்டுரைகள் மூலம் கொண்டாடி தீர்த்திருக்கிறார் சாரு நிவேதிதா. இந்த ஒரு நூல் பல்வேறு நூல்களை தேடுவதற்கான வழி வகுக்கிறது.

The BEST introduction to Tamil Literature. Charu was ill before starting this column. Still he went ahead and took the pressure of writing this wonderful series Pazhuppu Nira Pakkangal 1, 2, 3. Fingers crossed for Part 4.
