About the author

Akira Toriyama (鳥山明) was a Japanese manga artist and character designer. He first achieved mainstream recognition for creating the popular manga series Dr. Slump, before going on to create Dragon Ball (his most famous work) and acting as a character designer for several popular video games such as the Dragon Quest series, Chrono Trigger, and Blue Dragon. Toriyama came to be regarded as one of the most important authors in the history of manga with his works highly influential and popular, particularly Dragon Ball, which many manga artists cite as a source of inspiration.
He earned the 1981 Shogakukan Manga Award for best shōnen/shōjo manga with Dr. Slump, and it went on to sell over 35 million copies in Japan. It was adapted into a successful anime series, with a second anime created in 1997, 13 years after the manga ended.
His next series, Dragon Ball, would become one of the most popular and successful manga in the world. Having sold 260 million copies worldwide, it is one of the best-selling manga series of all time and is considered a key work in increasing manga circulation to its peak in the mid-1980s and mid-1990s. Overseas, Dragon Ball's anime adaptations have been more successful than the manga and are credited with boosting anime's popularity in the Western world. In 2019, Toriyama was decorated a Chevalier of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his contributions to the arts.
In October 2024, Toriyama was inducted into the Harvey Awards Hall of Fame.

Para los que crecimos con Son Goku viendo sus episodios en TV3, este manga se valora desde la nostalgia y con un cariño especial. Para los que pasamos tantas tardes viendo sus aventuras aunque fuesen episodios repetidos y los que el primer nombre en japonés que aprendimos fue "Akira Toriyama". Los que no aceptamos que "Piccolo" se llame de otra manera que no sea "Satanàs cor petit", y los que levantamos las manos con Son Goku para hacer la bola "Genki". Los que nos hace volver a la infancia una sola imagen de Son Goku. Para toda esa generación este manga se valora diferente. ¡Es único!

Son Goku venç als lluitadors de Baba la Vident, emportant-se una sorpresa al descobrir la identitat del darrer d'aquests. D'aquesta manera, Baba descobreix per a Goku l'ubicació de la darrera bola de drac.
D'aquesta manera finalitza un arc argumental, i en el mateix volum comença un de nou, on Goku, Krilín i Yamsha tornen a participar en una nova edició del Gran Torneig de les arts Marcials, junt amb Jackie Chun i els misteriosos lluitadors Ten Shin Han i Chaoz.

Diversió, combats d'arts marcials i humor marca Akira Toriyama.

Volume ricco di avvenimenti. La prima parte si rivela molto dolce e carica di buoni sentimenti, prima con l'apparizione del nonno poi con la resurrezione del padre di Upa grazie alle sfere. Nella seconda parte, a distanza di tre anni, per Goku, Crilin e Yamcha è di nuovo tempo di sfide sul ring! Potranno passare gli anni, ma l'entusiasmo che porta con sé il torneo Tenkaichi rimane immortale. Comunque, Tenshinhan non me lo ricordavo così ignobile all'inizio.

Tak disangka, ternyata lawan terakhir Goku adalah kakeknya sendiri, Son Gohan. Son Gohan kembali ke dunia hanya satu hari dan ia menyamar dengan memakai topeng supaya bisa melihat perkembangan Goku. Ia pun bangga mengetahui cucunya tersebut ternyata menjadi lebih kuat dari sebelumnya. Lantas, dari duel tersebut, Son Gohan menyerah sehingga Baba si Peramal memberi tahu di mana letak bola naga ketujuh.

Setelah berhasil merebut bola naga ketujuh, Goku pun mengajak Upa untuk kembali ke tempatnya supaya ia bisa membangkitkan ayahnya yang sudah meninggal. Upa sangat terharu bisa bertemu lagi dengan ayahnya dan bertekad ingin menjadi kuat seperti Goku.

Selanjutnya, Goku dkk. berpisah selama tiga tahun untuk melatih kekuatan dan supaya bisa mengikuti kembali Budokai Tenkaichi. Selain itu, Yamcha diterima sebagai muridnya Kamesennin.

ヤットここまで来た気がする。２番めの天下一武道会はアニメで見たのはもう３年以上になりましだけと今でもはっきり覚えています。
前はこのシリーズをさいごまで読めませんでしけど今回必ず最後まで読みたい。

Dragon Ball is slowly morphing into all fighting - all the time. I liked the beginning way better, it had some adventure as well thrown into the mix. This is starting to get boring, it'll probably end up like the anime: 90% of all dialogue will consist of "Kame Hame HA!". Too bad, I really liked how this manga started out.

Me he reído mucho con este tomo. Vuelve a haber muchísimas emociones distintas y momentos para todo. Reencuentros, una aparición estelar y otras cuantas que permanecerán por el resto de la serie. Muy completo y entretenido.
