A quick review for a quick read:

Greg's fiance just tossed him the deuces after he discovers her two-timing him with the local gym rake. His life falls into disarray as he unsuccessfully tries to get her back. But a chance meeting with his next door neighbor changes that. Empathizing with his plight, she offers to help him fix his life. To make him over so-to-speak, so that he can get the woman of his dreams back. But as they work to get Greg's life together, a friendship develops and soon, both of them are having second thoughts about what they want when it's all said and done. Could it be love sneaking up on them?

A simple, no frills, imperfect romance story with a HEA. There were copy editing issues for sure, but not the worst I've seen. I liked the characters; both Mykal and Greg were people you would want to have as friends, as well as their friends and family members. It seemed realistic enough and no billionaires or babies in sight! Not that there's anything wrong with billionaires and babies. But it's nice to read about everyday people once in a while in this genre.

Moving on...I loved the male love interests POV. He opened the book and I think that was a great idea on the Author's part. I felt for the guy. Life wasn't treating him so well. I also enjoyed that this wasn't one of those instalove stories. The author built an unusual, but cute friendship with the two main characters. How the story developed made sense and there wasn't a bunch of melodrama and conflict to drag the story out. Greg was a gamer geek, everyday guy and I liked that too. Mykel had healthy self-esteem, wasn't recovering from abuse or down and out when she met him. They both had been betrayed, but there wasn't an unevenness to their friendship and budding romance. They were even-keeled. This is my first time reading a Thayer King book. I tried the sample of this and it was so funny to me, I bought it. I hope to read another in the not-so-distant future. Although the story needs some polish and a good copy edit, the humor and everyday man/woman characters reminds me of Gisele Walko's books and that's a good thing.

My rating: A not the best, but enjoyable and worth purchasing 3.95

One of the things I really enjoy about Thayers King's books is that she always has an underlying beat of gaiety in them regardless of the overall arc of the novels. "The Makeover" is no different in that element. This is a fun book that starts off with heartbreak.

Greg is an absolute mess when we first meet him... totally insecure, trying to hard to please, and most importantly, unhappy. After being brutally dumped and wallowing in his misery, he meets Mykel one day in a not "meet cute" where he snaps at her in misdirected pain. Having come out of her own relationship where her partner cheated on her, she's stronger than Ben in dealing with her pain but still hurting. When Mykel sees the messy state that Greg is in after their altercation and learning the reasons why, she takes pity on him and offers to help him clean up his life and get his girl back. And that's when the fun begins with these two very relatable and fleshed out characters. They fall in love in front of their friends before either even realizes it but sometimes that happens. While Greg gets a bit more character focus than Mykel, you end up with a good read on both protaganists. "The Makeover" is an entertaining read overall and Greg & Mykel are a very likable couple, IMO.

I totally recommend this book.

Side note, it'll be interesting if the author decides to do a book with Ben and Thania. That's pure speculation, though.

A new and better Greg

This rating is a 4.5 stars due to to missing words and awkward sentences, besides those things I truly enjoyed this tale. Greg and Mykal had both been through the wringer with there exes but found someone better on each other. They balance out each other in my eyes. Daria was a piece of work towards the ending the gall of her. I'm glad m didn't take the bait, Greg was a great guy and Mykal was a good woman. Very goof read and no w there are more books of Mrs. Kings I have to read.

Enjoyable read

Mykal and Greg are both overcoming break ups. Mykal decides to help Greg get back his girlfriend by doing a makeover on Greg. As they work out and improve Greg appearance ,Greg comes to the realization that his ex may not be who he really wants to be with. Mykal likes him for who he is and that is enticing for him. The author does a good job of defining the characters and bringing the reader on their journey to a hea.

Growing love

I really enjoyed this book. The two main characters were hurt previously and they ultimately helped each other heal. They started out as friends and grew into lovers. I really love books where I see love blossom. What captured me is the reason they love each other.they were only dating shortly before their relationship became serious, but in the little time the author revealed the romance.

Sweet Story

I decided to reread this book today and it still holds up. Greg was one of the nicest leading men I have ever encountered. Humble and smart, just in need of a true friend. Mykal was also kind hearted and compassionate. I was so glad that the firm foundation they established did not buckle under the weight of Dsria’s too little-too late move to get back with Greg! They were friends before they became lovers....it paid off.

Short, sweet, too the point! A character who has flaws but worked to get the woman he wanted and a woman who saw past aesthetics and realized the heroine was more than a "nerd" but a smoking hot guy waiting to be discovered.

Not too bad.

It kept my attention. There were some minor grammatical errors. Kinda predictable at the end. Writing did flow well and the story wrapped up nicely.

Sweet and spicy

Loved the slow burn between Mykal and Greg. The makeover aspect made this interesting and fun to read. Loved having both points of view from the main characters.

Too cute

Mykal and Greg were too cute together. During his makeover, they unwillingly helped each other to get over their past loves and unknowingly felled in love with each other. Characters and story line were well developed.

Great characters

These were great characters. The heroine does a makeover for her neighbour who was recently dumped. She is also recently single after she did a make for her boyfriend who found his self-confidence and cheated on her. The hero was sweet but strong in his own way. He was a geek, a gamer for a living. The heroine throws herself into his life, gets him exercising, eating right, dressing better; a complete physical makeover so that he can win back the woman who dumped him. By the end of the makeover they fall for each other. Of course drama tries to interfere with their budding relationship but I liked that the heroine thinks about the situation and her reaction.

I liked that the characters had flaws but we're truly relatable. Good story.

Great book!

I have read several of Thayer King's books and have never been disappointed. I loved the characters Mykal and Greg. They'd both gone through awful breakups and became friends. Mykal gives Greg a full makeover. They began to fall for each other. I recommend this book. 1-click it.

Honestly, Thayer king is always an awesome read for me. She just has this way with making the most uncomplicated, sweet story with a perfect amount of conflict. This one in particular had a shy/awkward hero which I loved. So sweet!!!!
