Their distance provided a margin of safety, but only if they used hand weapons with a standard projectile. Anything based on beam technology—or, a long gun—would be devastating, and beyond range for effective return fire. In the brief glimpse of them, there were no apparent weapons. He considered retreat—however, it was a choice against the nature of his people’s militaristic psychological makeup. Besides, they were walking for days since arriving in their new world and, at the forest’s edge, was the first sighting of a species other than birds, animals, or critters that slithered.
Evidence of civilized society did not exist.

Brian McCullough’s On the Edge of Now: Book III—Redemption transports readers to an empty world—or, was it? After days of searching and solitude, the Travelers find themselves in the hunt with an unknown enemy—Tag, Rose, Claire, and Devin are prey! ***Spoiler alert!***

Wow, another cliffhanger?! This book 3 of the OTEON series is another enjoyable read with more diverse characters. Albeit the plot takes a slower pace in this story compared to the previous two books, but the intriguing characters will keep you engaged throughout the book!

After reuniting Lucy and Jove with their community and hoping to find their way home, Tag and his friends (Rose, Claire and Devin) hop into the portal again. Unfortunately, they find themselves in a world where primitive development or a civilised society seems to be non-existent. It is just one massive empty land. They have been hiking for many days looking for answers or someone for help but it appears to be hopeless, until they finally spot another group of people. Upon closer look, these four person group do not look like humans at all! They have teal-aquamarine color skin and are Gargantuan in size! They are in uniforms and carrying weapons too! Who and what are these creatures? Why and how did they end up in this same desolate place?

This third book has a slower pace plot compared to the previous two books. But it has many gripping twists in between! IMHO, this book is a more character driven story. There are a lot more characters - iridescent and intriguing ones! And this story is narrated back and forth from these characters POVs. Lots of depth and dimensions and they are delineated slowly throughout the book.

The one and only tiny flaw in this story is the haste ending. Although it ended with a good wrap-up, but it does seem that the epic battle which is pivotal to the ending of this story, was too short and rushed.

In a nutshell, this is a delightful read! Albeit the slower pace (but solid) plot, the amazing characters will keep you engaged. McCullough amazed us again with his atmospheric writing and magnetic storytelling! I am looking forward to reading the next book - Fulcrum. This has been one wonderful series so far!

It's been a long time since I read a science fiction book that kept my attention to the point of not wanting to put it down. McCullough's writing style is easy to read, and it seems he writes with the intent of drawing young and adult readers to his books -- my kids and I read his books without my having to check it out first for inappropriate content. What a treat!

Somewhere through the grapevine I heard his fourth book is coming soon -- looking forward to it!

I feel like one of the Travellers along on this journey. McCulough's words flow together as he creates world after world with a sense of wonder of could this possibly be more than just ink on paper?
