Talented witch and monster hunter extraordinaire, Morgan Maxwell has spent most of her life killing deadly paranormal creatures - and searching for any information related to the mother who disappeared from her life when she was four. Following a deadly encounter, Morgan is stuck on bed rest in her hometown and has resigned herself to a few months of binging on TV shows.

But when a straightforward murder investigation takes an even worse turn with the discovery of another body - one that leaves Morgan brokenhearted and lusting for revenge - she's forced to do something she never wanted to do: work with the sexy and insufferably sweet man who came to put her in handcuffs - and not in the fun way.

Oh, and she has to kick a ton of bad guy ass, but that's something she's always happy to do.

2.5 Well, this was boring.

The idea, as a whole, wasn't too bad, but God, the writing was so damn boring! And it's a 200 page book...
I skimmed a lot and didn't much care about the characters, who they were or why they did what they did.

Even if you end up liking the book, I doubt it'll be more than a 3.5 read, no matter what you do. It wasn't bad or anything, it was just an extremely meh book. Even more, I finished it yesterday and I had to read the blurb to remember what happened.

So if you do decide to read it... well, hope you enjoy it a lot more than I did!

This is a great new find on Kindle Unlimited, with a great leading, kick-arse heroine and completely lickable tall, dark, and handsomes. Two love interests a daemon fuck buddy and the more serious possibility of extending a possible witch/sorcerer lover. Absolutely NO love triangle, all happy campers.

No cliffhanger and tastefully set up for the next novel at the end of March 2016.

So, when you're reading a book and hope the main character dies, you know you're reading the wrong book. For me, there was nothing redeeming about the heroine. She hooks up with a guy accusing her of a slaughter like 4 hours after meeting her. Then she sees her friends with benefits and introduces the two. While searching for a killer she keeps thinking about having sex with this guy and totally not keeping her head in the game. She is distracted the whole course of the investigation and book by is it wrong to keep doing and having sex while complaining that they don't have leads. This book was a total bust for me and I kept reading hoping she would be killed.

Morgan has been hanging out at home healing after a brutal showdown a few months ago forced her to take a much-needed break. She may be a little focused on finding out more about her mother but she didn't cause the attack that has sent the hunter to her door. As if she doesn't have enough going on with being seen committing murder, her adopted mother is also found murdered in the house just next door on Morgans watch.

Morgan needs to find out who killed Lady Maxwell, as well as framed her for the murders before another body turns up. Forced to work with the man who was set to arrest her she also has the help of her partner and demon lover they may just be able to catch them before something more sister happens.

I didn't like Morgan at first she was very frustrating as she so quickly made a new friend in Alex the man who was supposed to arrest her. She slowly grew on me as the book progressed but wouldn't say I loved her in the end. I liked Rowan she's an interesting supporting character even if she's not in the body of a talking cat.

I've had Hunter, Hunted on my wishlist forever and decided to take a chance and maybe I had my expectations too high. I loved the urban fantasy idea, the world is interesting and the idea of 4 cities but also living in the normal world. I honestly didn't love Morgan she was hard to connect with and a little frustrating. I also wasn't a fan of her voracious sex drive it was a little unnecessary but at least the author hides it so it doesn't overwhelm the story. The story itself is fast paced action packed and full of twists to the very end. Hunter, Hunted just wasn't for me, and I feel bad because it's my kind of book. I really wanted to love it but we don't love every book we read. I still suggest checking it out just because I didn't love it doesn't mean you won't.

Good start. Interesting world building.

But if you don't like characters who are confident sexual women who have casual sex, you won't like the main character. This seems to be the cause for all the lower reviews. I like her practical open attitude. Its refreshing in an UF series for the MC to not fall over her feet in love.

My only problem is my confusion about her abilities. She was injured prior to the start and has been out of the hunting game 3 months, and she's lost a lot of her magical strength and abilities. Is this due to pure laziness for not keeping up with training or did the injury damage her magic as well?

Not a bad story for me. I really enjoyed the magic and mystery. The sarcasm and interactions were fun to read. There were just a couple things that bugged me with the story mainly the main character, Morgan. She was focused a lot on sex and getting her kicks rather than find the killer and strengthening herself. So for her her character was disappointing. My favorite characters were actually Ipos and Rowan. They were entertaining and fun to read. I'm curious to see where the story goes so I'll probably pick up the next book.

I was not impressed by Morgan as a character as she was a sex obsessed idiot to put it bluntly. A man investigating a massacre that she is the main suspect for comes to talk to her and she spends the whole time thinking about bedding him in countless ways. They go over to her mentors house and find her dead, and literally two minutes later she is sexually flirting with a hot demon in the hallway before going to check the dead body. What the heck is wrong with this bitch. This is the woman who raised you, the closest thing to family you have and despite hearing she has been murdered, all you can think about is bedding two hot guys. I had no reaction to her other than her being an insensitive bitch. When she checks the body, THEN we get a few sniffy tears but of course the flirting had to come first as that was more important.

Morgan spends the next two hours trying to discover which poison is the murder weapon-while having her fantasies about bedding the non demon guy. Oh his lovely lashes and hotness! Gag. And before the potion is even finished, she beds him. Yeah we REALLY are focused on solving the murder as our priority aren't we? Four hours later, she is trying to seduce the demon guy she's already been sleeping casually with. There might actually be a proper story at some point but I'm tired of waiting for it to show up. I just can't be bothered with plots where the MC is sex obsessed. OK we don't see the actual sex scenes but steriotype bitches in heat characters like Morgan do not interest me in the slightest. I endured enough of that with Anita Blake.

Bored with this.

I feel like I have missed something, I don't really understand what is going on throughout this book.

A load of demons died, no idea why... Then the head of a big family was killed.

Gah, can't even explain it I just don't get this book. Not for me.

I really enjoyed this. Morgan was a great character. I really enjoyed her humour. And I loved Ipos. I found the romance lacking to start with and then I decided I liked it - but then I hated it again. If she keeps it casual with Ipos and Alex that's fine. But I don't want her with Alex. I found him boring and I found them together boring. She has way more chemistry with Ipos and I'd prefer her to pursue a relationship with him. So I don't know if I'll continue on with this series or not.

Regardless this was a solid start to a new series. The storyline was fast paced and the mystery interesting - even if not particularly complex. I liked the cat - Rowan - interesting addition to the story.

I am glad this book was so short because the flow was all over the place. It felt like it was a novella that turned into a novel. I think I might try the next book in the series, or maybe some of her other books, but I truly hope they have a better heroine and male characters that are more than mainly eye candy.

This book was amazing. The characters were outlandishly hilarious and truly remerable. The only problem I had was that the plot was a bit difficult to follow but otherwise brilliant, light hearted and all round a fun read.

This review was first published on my blog " Lecture toute une Aventure", I received an ecopy in exchange for an honest review.

This is a new universe where Hell and Heaven have agents keeping "peace" on earth along with an hunters order...we even get some information about how it happened which is something i really like ( great background setting always make a story better in my opinion) so to resume you have humans, normal one, some magic users working with demons ( good ones)...we also learn that vampires and werewolves exist in this universe.
The main Character is Morgan, an hunter talented in elemental magic and friend with Ipos, the second of lucifer himself she also lives with a talking cat , mentor and maternal figure in a sense) named Rowan.

When a caravan is attacked Alex, another hunter, is in charge of the investigation thanks to his power to speak to the dead which leads him to Morgan. Starting from that point it's non stop action ^^ you jump from one investigation to the next and the author manage to slowly offer you more information on the universe, Morgan, Rowan etc without cutting the rhythm of the action. It's really a pleasant and more reads one that leave you with more questions but not in an anguish because of a cliffhanger either so it's simply perfect.

The only element i wasn't fond of is Morgan attitude....even now that i've finished reading this story it's still bother me. I love my characters being loyal and i guess then exclusive. Morgan is jumped to bed with everyone she fancies...worse in my opinion she even do it with people she doesn't know for more than a few hours and in a house where someone dear to her died..... For me she could be Ipos girlfriend , yes he is a demon etc but it wouldn't hurt me as much as Morgan jumping from one to another even in the same day. It's a personal opinion of course and that aside the main plot and secondary characters make me want to read more ...i just hope she will end up choosing and sticks to her choice.

Ipos is funny and doesn't hide his demonic nature...i really loved that you could imagine that their races doesn't determine if they are good or evils. Alex is...in fact i can't really have an opinion on him yet he can act tender but he has a lot of secrets.Rowan made me laugh...she may be a cat but her personnality is hilaring and she can be very inventive in her threats.

All put together this is a series i would like to continue but if you are someone who doesn't like demons in your stories you may want to skip this one as they are a lot and a lot of reference to it. It's really good urban fantasy

Wickedly good mystery

If you're a fan of the Dresden Files, this may be a new series for you. Witch Morgan Maxwell was raised by an "aunt" who was the head of one of the major families. Morgan's father left her with Lady Cassandra when at age four Morgan's mum vanished. She's had nothing to do with her uppity father since he abandoned her. Soon Lady Cass chose Morgan to be her heir due to her inherited talent. We pick up after Morgan has been a part of a major attack. She's at the end of healing from her injuries. She awakens to learn she's now a suspect in this attack even though she was gravely injured. In the midst of being interrogated by a very handsome appointee from the other families, her cousin/foster sister Lily lets out a scream.....aunt Cass is dead! Morgan's other surrogate mum is the spirit of Rowena who resides in a cat. So yes she's a talking cat like in Sabrina the teen witch...except this is the sentient being if a past hunter who chose to go into a cat to continue teaching hunting skills to future witches like Morgan. Between Rowena, Morgan, Lily, Alex (the hottie who initially accused Morgan for the other incident) and Morgan's occasional bed buddy...they're off to try to unravel who had the gall to murder the head of this family. Under it all is another mystery. Morgan has no clue where her mother is, or why when she finally got what looked like a real tip she was smack in the middle of all the death that followed. Coincidence, or was it planned? Not to mention how as a witch sharing happens to heal uber fast. Apparently this shouldn't be the case.....along the way we discover (and so does Morgan) she can do things no witch should be a leader to do. Rowena and Lily seem to know something Morgan does not. Many mysteries reside within this fun series. Lots of tongue in cheek humor, Magic, talking cats, mysteries, romance and more all rolled up into one amazingly fun read. If you love books about urban fantasy, paranormal, romance, and mystery then give this book a chance. I can't wait to see what happens next.

I am a bit torn about this book.

Here we go with Morgan Maxwell, the chosen successor and heir to one of four Order families. When a member of another family, Alex Campbell, comes to the town to investigate an incident where Morgan is the main suspect to be a murderer, things start to escalate. Head of Maxwell family, Lady Cassandra, is murdered, her niece Lily kidnapped and an evil sorcerer tries to cast a deadly spell. Tie this with erotic tension and supernatural powers and you have the result.

Yes, I did enjoy the book. The plot was simple, not much of surprises and unsuspected twists, easy to read through and simply enjoy the moment. When it comes to characters, I loved Rowan’s calm wisdom cloaked in mystery and Morgan’s sarcasm. The way she was thinking is totally close to me and my peers.

However, when one starts to think about the content… I started to be annoyed by Morgan’s constant distraction by sex thoughts and inability to put two and two together. Also, some emotional reactions as well as dialogues stood out as absolutely unrealistic and out of place. I would appreciate more complex and developing character, as it is the most important element in each story – great characters have the potential to make even a poor plot an excellent tale.

Despite my doubts, I am willing to give the series a second chance and read the next books. The world establishment is very attractive and appealing to the reader, characters have potential to develop and with more focus on details and dialogues, author’s writing could make a great book.

I only got to chapter 3 and then I DNFed this book. The heroine was absolutely horrible and a sex-crazed brat. I felt like the beginning started in the middle of a story and I had no idea what was going on. Boring, boring, boring.

I was intrigued with the story line for Hunter,Hunted and I certainly enjoyed the world that Ashley Meira created with talking cats, a witch hunter recovering from her demon caused injuries, intricate potions, and a world that feels little different from our own.

Call me old fashioned but I wasn't as keen on the heroine jumping in bed with someone she barely knew right from the start, but later in the story, I realized Morgan's actions resulted from he belief that she couldn't form a permanent bond with anyone because of her Hunter profession and the fact that she hates being alone. I certainly enjoyed Morgan, our heroine. She's witty and snarky and made me laugh. While she is definitely not a damsel in distress, there are moments when she has images of what a normal life would feel like.

The mystery in this story keeps you guessing and the various characters and love interests are interesting enough to keep you reading. I can hardly wait for book two!

This book was so fucking boring for me. I couldn't even finish it. Seriously we have a idiot female lead that is all about the sex and her mother to just about care anything else. Her mentor/aunt and in my mind her real caring mother is murdered. The idiot hooks up with a guy accusing her of a slaughter like 4 hours after meeting her. Then she sees her friends with benefits and introduces the two. While searching for a killer she keeps thinking about having sex with this guy and totally not keeping her head in the game.

Janet ---- i agree with you. What a bitch! Her 'beloved' aunt was found murdered in her bed and the bitch was so concerned that she got laid two hours later and flirted and kissed another man A few hours after that, while searching for the killer. I dislike her too much to continue reading.

I won't recommand this book to anyone, if you like this book then you are an idiot.

Hunter, Hunted is a solid mystery wrapped up in an enticing urban-fantasy package. I enjoyed the magical world from the beginning --- talking cat, hunter protagonist, intricate potions, and world that feels a little different from our own despite being set here in the USA.

I wasn't as keen on the heroine jumping in bed with someone she barely knew right from the start, but later realized her actions were a way of showcasing a personality flaw that she'll likely be growing out of for the rest of the series. On the positive side, our heroine is witty and snarky and made me laugh. Definitely not a damsel in distress!

The mystery is intricate enough to keep you guessing and the side characters are interesting enough to keep you reading. Definitely worth a borrow (or buy if you don't have KU). Can hardly wait for book two!

This is the 1st book I've read by Ashley Meira and it won't be the last !! I'm definitely going to be reading book 2 of this series. Morgan is a witch extraordinare, whose called home to convalesce after she had been ambushed while looking for clues on her long lost mother. Morgan is set to lead the family in 20 -30 years when the current ruler passes away, instead the Lady is found murdered and Morgan must figure out not only who did it but why. She has an excellent cast of characters to help her out ; Ipso's her demon lover, Alex, the Hunter from another family who had originally come to arrest Morgan for murder , Lily her cousin and Rowan her cat familiar who is actually a grandmother several times removed, whose spirit and knowledge have been encased in a cats body. There is hot sexy love scenes, amazing fights and a small if epic battle at the end. This is a solid 4,5

Given to me for an honest review. There are two more books in this series. A talking cat, a hunter who is a medium, a large demon with tattoos--what do they have in common? A Hunter comes to town to find out who murdered a group of innocent demons. Alex has been told Morgan, a witch and hunter, was in the area. Rowan is Morgan's partner and advisor. She is also a talking cat and tells Alex that Morgan wasn't there. Lily, a cousin, wants Morgan to go with her when she tells Auntie Cass that she broke her favorite vase. When they arrive, Auntie Cass is in bed and dead. It appears that some kind of potion was used. Lady Rowan will interview staff. Morgan will work trying to remake the potion, but it will not be easy since some ingredients disappear as time goes by. So now they are looking for murderers and thieves. Will they find them before more people are killed?

A rather enjoyable read.

I liked the story concept very much. It was engaging with plenty of adventure to keep you interested. I'm looking forward to the next book in the Spire Chronicles. Ashley Meira's characters are interesting and keep you wanting to know more about them. Morgan is sassy and smart with plenty of guts and willingness to wade straight into the fray. What did she do to get so badly injured by the ambush that was set up? Who is her father and mother really? I get the feeling that there is something very special about Morgan and her true abilities are yet to be revealed.
And of course the talking cat, Rowen! What did she do all those centuries ago to warrant being turned in to a cat? Was it a personal choice? There are plenty of questions yet to be answered. This series is definitely on my to read list!

OMG What a great story.
Morgan Maxwell is a witch who works as a hunter, killing deadly paranormal creatures. There is tons of mystery in this along with action and spice.
Morgan's mom disappeared when she was 4 then her father sent her to live with lady Cassandra who raised her and made her the heir of her home.
Story start out with Morgan being questioned for killing a lot of people. Then her adopted mom was killed then the real action started! Well written, fun, exciting and spicy. It's my first book of Ashley Meira and will not be my last. I am adding her to the last of authors I love. This book has magic, demons, and action don't miss it!
Book given for an honest review and I honestly loved it.

What I liked:

Talking cat who is actually a reincarnated hunter
Ipos
The world of demons and hunters
There was an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. reference I really appreciated
Some moments were really, REALLY good, and I wanted more of them

What I'm not sure about:

The romance between Alex and Morgan. I like my romance to be sexy-sweet with a nice build up and didn't get that at all.
It was very fast, which is good because it's a quick read, but didn't give me much time to settle into anything
I had no feelings whatsoever for any of the characters. They could have died and I'd have been 'eh'
Who is Trish?????????

I'll probably continue the series at some point, because I'm betting it gets way better with each book.

This was a very entertaining book about a "hunter" of paranormal baddies, separated from her parents at a very young age and groomed to take over as head of one of the four power families.
After being injured in an ambush, she was supposed to be taking a break to rest. But even "resting" she can't avoid the dangers of her job after her mother-figure mentor was murdered. Now she has to find the killer...
The characters are starting to be developed pretty well in this first book. I'm sure there will be plenty more details to come out, as there are several books in this series. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of them. I didn't put this one down, start to finish.
