John Arcudi has made a name for himself by scripting comics that manage to combine long-running subplots with impeccable characterization and action sequences, making for some of the most exciting and consistently good comics out today.
Hellboy's first mission! It was fascinating reading a story with Hellboy staying timidly in the background, waiting for instruction or an understanding of what he's meant to do, then suddenly bursting free when there's a fight to be had.
His personality isn't fully formed here, with minimal sarcasm or bravado colouring his lines. He's a quieter, still-learning Hellboy, and I think that worked very well for documenting his first ever mission with the BPRD.
