Garrick Stevens is a homicide detective in Miami Florida. His life is never his own. He has a team of men he considers his family and a grandmother with a mouth that has no filter. Garrick is currently working a case where gay men have gone missing from Shakers, a popular gay club down town. A symbol is left in a certain spot on every victim. Garrick and his team have to stop this murderer before more lives are taken and this symbol is the only key evidence he has until the murderer leaves him a message on one of the victims. One night while running a stakeout at the club Garrick runs in to the most sexiest man he has ever laid eyes on. Something flips inside of him making him want to make this man his. Garrick will do everything he can to not only get this man in his bed but also have him in his life for forever. Tripp Anderson loves his life and his job. He knows one day he will find the right one but he isn't in a hurry and he doesn't make it a point to go out looking. His best friend is also his roommate. He loves to make Tripp go out with him to the club Shakers for dancing and drinking anytime he gets the chance. One night Tripp meets a man that is gorgeous and sexy as hell rolled all in to one. He makes Tripp feel things he has never felt before just by his voice. When they see each other again Tripp doesn't know what to do with himself. After a few run in's the two start seeing more of each other. When the relationship starts to get serious things start happening to Tripp. Garrick knows that it's the murderer, since Tripp fits the victim's profile perfectly. He doesn't want to tell Tripp until he knows for sure. One night when Tripp goes to the club, he is kidnapped while Garrick and his team are on their stakeout. Will Garrick find Tripp in time before he is another victim? Or will he lose his one chance for love and a life with a man he can't live without?
Updated Review: I tried to read this book again because it was said to be edited but there are still so many grammar and spelling errors. Not as bad as the first time I tried but still too many. I did read to 15% this time and skimmed the rest. The sentence structure needs serious editing throughout the book. I just feel like it needs professional help to make it work. I'm going to attempt to read Book 2.
Old Review: I really, really wanted to read this book. I've had it downloaded since the release and I've tried to read it multiple times but just can't get past 3%. I am typically not picky about some spelling or grammar issues. It happens, and I understand that.
But to this author, please, if you can not hire an editor, join a group where you can get fellow writer's help in editing your book. I've had another author tell me she uses this, so I know they exist.
The grammar, spelling and editing are nonexistent. I would love to give this book another chance once it's been reworked and polished. Heck, I'll offer to do a free grammar/spelling edit. But a professional needs to be used too.
First off, let me say that I'm thankful for KU. Now, onto the story. We have Garrick and his team on the Homicide Division in Miami and then we have Tripp and his bestie Jase. Garrick is on a case where gay men are being killed and dumped all over the city and it's obvious nobody on the team knows anything about police procedure or how to put clues together and solve a case.
Tripp and Jase are TSTL (and so is Garrick). I mean,
Then the dialog was cringe-worthy. I just can't even think about it right now and it only gets worse as the books go on. What the hell am I doing to myself? Entertainment. Right!
Garrick's pervy Nana wasn't even funny. I think the author is trying WAAAAAAY to hard at having a "cool, funny" character and it's a complete flop. I don't want to think about a 64 year old lady talking about penis sizes and showing off string bikinis in Victoria's Secret. Do they even sell male thongs there? I don't think so, but I haven't stepped foot in that store in over 10 years. Nana is also incredibly nosy. Which is another trait that I can't stand.
Hospital knowledge? What's that? Apparently the ER doc also performs surgeries. It's like an episode of Night Watch, but it doesn't translate on paper as it does on TV. Oh and I didn't know doctors have a term called "the safe zone". I'll have to call my brother and ask him if he uses it.
Overall, if you want to laugh and not in a good way give this a shot.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
** Had to delete book and re-add it, because I didn't want it as part of the count in my book challenge. **
I skimmed through this book quite thoroughly, to the point where I can safely say I've been through the majority of this book, JUST so I could rate it and warn you, dear potential reader. Stay away, stay far FAR away!! Holy shit, it's been a while since a book made me feel so hostile and ragey!! One of THEE worst books I've ever attempted to read!!!!
The writing was juvenile, stilted, awkward, and VERY poorly written. There were typos and grammatical errors all over the friggin' place, and I'm pretty sure NO medical or law enforcement professional speaks or acts like that!!!! PLUS, what the fuck is a "safe zone" in regard to patient diagnosis?!!??? Is that supposed to be a medical term? If so, where do they speak like this?!? Poorly made TV shows maybe, with absolutely NO medical research to back that shit up!!!
The ending was the shit-icing on the shit-cake ...
Everything about this book was ridiculous, contrived, and absolutely asinine!! I am really REALLY not trying to be mean or overly critical, and my goal here definitely isn't to strip the author down. I'm not trying to bash said author at all. Really. That is most definitely not my style!! This truly and sincerely IS a bona-fide and genuine review of something I wish I never read. If this is how this author writes, I highly suggest said author find another vocation because this one is not for them :-/!!
Note: Just because you know how to write, does NOT an author make. I'm sorry but it's true :-/!!
As a disclaimer for the sake of avoiding irony, I recognize that this review hasn't been formatted, but I wrote quickly and with disregard for formatting; I simply wanted to get this down on virtual paper. I'll look over everything later and shall revise if necessary. Thanks!!
I really enjoyed this book, it was HOT, it had angst, it has lots of laughter and tears and I fell in love with Garrick and Tripp. The book pulled me in from the very beginning and I didn't want to put it down. I will definitely keep and eye out for future books by this author.
The only disappointing bit was the editing as there were lots of missed words, typos, and a spell check could have also been used. Apart from that I thought it was a great book.
Love this book. The take charge alpha male detectives were all about protect and serve. And the characters Tripp and Jase were so funny. I recommend this book as a great read.
I enjoy this book even though it needs a lot of work on grammar and it was kind of predictable, I am going to keep reading this series hopefully the rest of the books are better.
If the rest of the books in this series is any bootilicious as this one then I'm all in for no sleep until the last book in this series is done. If you haven't read it the please do!! It Wii make you laugh, cry and curse all in one. I loved it!!!
I loved tangled up in you I mean wow I fell so in love with Garrick and Tripp
This story was so intense I felt Garrick and Tripp's connection all the way through there story it was also funny and had a lot of seriousness to there journey to
We are introduced to a amazing cast of characters who I fell in love with straight away with there playfulness and how they're like family to
We all could do with a nana like Garrick's Nana in our life's she is so fun and very caring I love her
Thank you t l Hendrix for this amazing start to a series
I can normally ignore slight errors but there were so many it actually made the book hard to read in places. The story itself isn't a bad one. The characters strong the secondary characters also added to the story. The ending was weak like an almost I have so many words left and that's all I'm going to write with no extra. I am going to read the next in the series as I think things will develop and hopefully editing will improve too.
What a great start to a new series. This is the first book I've read from this author and I look forward to continuing with the series. There are some serious editing issues, but I looked past that because I enjoyed the story. I'm a big fan of Insta-love and this book falls into that category for me. The sub characters are great also, so I look forward to reading their own story's.
I did not particularly like this book --it had too many holes and I felt as if the story was jumping. The connection between Garrick and Tripp did not feel authentic but exaggerated. The reason behind the unsub's actions made absolutely no sense. Jase was entertaining and I really did not like all those excessively long inner monologues.
H. L. Hendrix has successfully combined the perfect amounts of mystery and the discovery of male love to make for a satisfying read. Hendrix has avoided the usual overdone sappy sex scenes with a little background story thrown in that so many authors use to sell the same song with different variation.
This was a good book. Loved the storyline and Nana. Nana! There were spelling and grammar mistakes which was a little off putting, but I was able to read it and follow the story. *ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review*
I really enjoyed the characters in this book. However, the grammar, the wrong verb tenses, the changing verb tenses in the same sentence really brought down the rating. This book really needed an editor and a few beta readers. I loved nana the best.
