Spirit of Elm #1

The Caretaker's Legacy

Rate this book
For Leon Skyler and his best friend, Maria Treckle, spirits were nothing more than characters of legend. Fairy tales did not belong in a place like Avaleer, where technology was on the rise and common sense ruled. But one night, Leon’s perceptions began to change after meeting a kind stranger.

The Caretaker’s Legacy is the first book of the Spirit of Elm series that follows Leon, Maria, and their friends as they fight living machines, thwart evil, and meet the fantastical spirits tied to the greatest secrets their world holds.

So, as much as I tried, I just could not finish this one. Sounded really interested, but too many issues for me to want to finish it. The narrative was focusing on things I did not find interesting and glossing over the things I wanted to hear more about. Main character seemed very self demeaning, and just not what I want to read.

Fun

I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. It is different from type of book I usually choose to read. However, I liked the characters. I thought the beginning was a bit slow, and focused too much on things that were unimportant. The story got moving more towards the end and it started to hold my interest, so that I was rooting for Leon, Tim, Maria and Howard. Oh, and Warren! I think there are many more adventures in store for this group!

Could not put it down. Wish I did not have to wait for book 2. The writer has a very good imagination.

Interesting story and characters. Leon disappears the night of the snail fair and the places and characters he meets along the way are very creative.
