Forever #3

Save a Prayer: A Prequel to Bring Me Back

Rate this book
It's summer, 1985. The music has never been better. MTV is everywhere. Angie Dawson has landed her dream job. And it's put her on a plane from the UK to Philadelphia to face the guy who broke her heart.

Angie Dawson never wanted to see Graham Whiting or his cheating face again, but her brand new job at Music Maker magazine has her photographing his band, Banks Forest. They're the Fab Four all over again--hot British guys who can have any girl they want. Angie had prepared to be a grown-up about working closely with Graham, but there's one scenario she hadn't anticipated. He says he wants her back. She wants him to be the guy he claims he can be, but he's messed up before, big time. And some facts are unavoidable--the band has massive tours planned and the groupies will always be there. How does a reunion with her ex end up being anything more than a one-night stand?

Save a Prayer is a new-adult novella with super steamy scenes. If you've read Bring Me Back or Back Forever, you will recognize these characters! This story takes place in the heyday of Banks Forest and tells Graham and Angie's story. Chris is in this story, but Claire is not. There are, however, a few nods to her. Save a Prayer originally appeared in the '80s Mix Tape anthology.

Karen Booth is a Midwestern girl transplanted in the South, raised on 80s music and repeated readings of Forever by Judy Blume. She writes steamy contemporary romance and women's fiction. When she isn't creating fictional hunky men and the women who test them, she's listening to music with her kids, honing her Southern cooking skills or sweet-talking her astoundingly supportive husband into whipping up a batch of cocktails.

Dnf. Not feeling this one.
It's the prequel to Bring Me Back and is Graham 's story, set during the band's 1980s heyday. He had a girl, he cheated on her, now he wants her back. Not for me.

ARC Review

I wish there was more to this story. It did help me get to know these two key characters from the band, but,now that I am an official fan of this band, I want more.

I am looking forward to book four.

A short book about the early years of Banks Forest, the band in Bring Me Back and Back Forever. Specifically about lead singer Graham and his eventual wife Angie. Angie & Graham were an item for a few years but he cheated on her and she never wanted to see him again. Then she gets a job with a music magazine to photograph the band’s latest concert and video filming. Just about the same time Graham realizes he made a huge mistake and he wants Angie back, no matter what.

A classic second chance love story. Graham comes to understand why he cheated and Angie comes to realize she can forgive him. Some steamy scenes, but no surprises. Enjoyable, but lacked the charm and charisma of Bring Me Back and Back Forever.

Favorite Quotes:

I wasn’t really sure whether I should laugh flirtatiously or throw up… It hurt to look at him. He also, inexplicably, made a regular habit of hitting on me. My vanity was sure I should be flattered by his overtures. My brain was sure I should lie and tell him I had an incurable case of chlamydia.

Her smile was like shining a spotlight on a Rembrandt – it brought out her beauty in a way that left me breathless.

I’m not Mrs. Whiting. Your mother is. And I really don’t think you should get the two of us confused…

My Review:

Save A Prayer was a quick and engaging second chance romance. I enjoyed the glimpse into the backstory of the characters as well as the strength, evolution, and thoughtfulness of the characters. Their tale was relatable, entertaining, sweet, amusing and steamy. Exactly what her readers should expect from the talented Ms. Booth.

I knew from the first few pages of SAVE A PRAYER that I was going to love it, and I did. I'd already read about Graham and Angie in BRING ME BACK, and even seeing them together 20 years into the future didn't prevent me from worrying over how they'd manage to find their way back to each other in SAVE A PRAYER.

I'm not usually a fan of first person writing, but with Karen Booth it seems perfectly natural and right for the story. The author did an amazing job with this novella, and I highly recommend it.

Very cute second chance love story, set in the 80s centered around a rock star and a photographer. I enjoyed all the characters, in addition to the two main characters. I look forward to reading more about the other band members!
