This is the final volume of a five-book series from Tatsuya Endo, the author behind the fantastic Spy x Family series. This is sort of an updated version of the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, a Japanese folklore story about Princess Kaguya, a princess on the moon who is sent down to the Earth.
Here we have the final battle as Princess Kaguya returns to the moon with her new allies to reclaim her birthright and stop Izumiya from killing innocent people. A lot of action, a little more backstory, and a comfortable epilogue. A fitting ending.
Cool concept but for me an overall uneven series. The rowdy main character isn't charming, and there are a lot of side characters and ideas that get introduced and then lost in the shuffle. The final volume gives the backstory of the rival princess, a rushed and crazy climax, and a sweet epilogue.
Beautiful artwork and in the end the commitment was worth the payoff. A great ending and a beautiful story about family, inter generational trauma and growing up.
