A native of the planet Cyxtratis, Xafir was, until recently, in prison for attempted murder. Now he’s escaped, intent on finishing what he started three years ago. But to avoid the authorities and reach his goal, he needs help.
His only chance for freedom (and revenge) will come from a pair of unique alien siblings-- one who wants his body, and one who wants to get inside his mind.
It's my first publication! Currently priced at 99¢ for the first 100 readers, then will be $1.99. This episode, titled 'Welcome' is the first of four installments to be released in 2016.
First of all, I have yet to read the full story. So this review will be based upon the preview that I read on the author's AO3. Second, I'm picky as hell when it comes to sci-fi books because I have a particular taste. And out of all the LGBTQ+ science fiction avalible out there, this story met (most) of my tastes. Aliens? CHECK. LGBTQ+ characters? CHECK. Characters that are outside the gender binary? CHECK. Aliens/non-human characters that don't have "typical" genitalia that males/females have? ONE BILLION CHECKS. Seriously, almost every single sci-fi book I have come across that contains aliens, the alien characters are immediately labeled as male or female and addressed by him/her pronouns (like come on, they're a species from a different planet that most likely have different chromosomes, sex organs, and gentailia, be more creative). So when I saw the words "genderqueer" and "LGBTQ" in the tags of her work, I immediately clicked it. Okay I've blabbed on enough, now to the real review. So first off, we have a FtM transgender protagonist named Xafir, a Cyxan, and our other characters Ooryan, a Nuarr who owns a tattoo shop in a poor and dingy part of the city with her brother, Panya. The characters are very interesting, from personality to design. I also loved the way the author is descriptive with the enviornment and backgrounds, showing the reader the inside of the run-down tattoo parlor. Xafir and Panya getting to know each other more by having a conversation about Panya's art was really good buildup for the ""event"". Xafir being surprised by Panya's kiss by thinking that he was 'eating his face' made me laugh, because oh my god Xafir doesn't know how kissing works. And when it comes to reading sex scenes, I prefer it to be well written and descriptive. And the author delivered me just that and earns a good thumbs up from me. I also give her an extra thumbs up for having the Nuarr species intersex, making Ooryan and Panya intersex, and a transgender protagonist. I sincerly hope that she release the next episode soon and continues on with the series. There is one thing that dissapoints me however, and that is the fact that I can't rate this book more than 5 stars.
I like to think of myself as a simple person with simple needs, and this novelette delivered. That being said, I'm not going to pretend like I came here for the plot, but it tickled my fancy, because who doesn't love a good revenge plot, and there's something unsettling about Ooryan that's super intriguing. She almost distracted me from the hot hot alien smut, and that's saying a lot. I like where this is going, I feel like this initial little foray is about to get a lot more complicated than originally assumed.
