11 books11 followersBorn and raised in Texas, Samantha Saxon moved to Europe after her parents divorced where she lived in many places including London, Paris, and Spain where things like IRA bombings, the art of the Louvre, and perfectly charming English mobsters became her new normal.
Later, Samantha attended the University of Texas as a Middle Eastern Studies major with the goal of working in a US embassy. But with increasing problems in the middle east, and having just met her future husband...the prospect of moving abroad became far less appealing.
So she decided to try her hand at another passion, writing. Her debut novel, originally titled The Lady Lies won Romantic Times followed by the equally regarded books, The Lady Killer and The Lady's Code. These books are being offered for the first time as e-books under their new titles; Napoleon's Woman, England's Assassin, and King's Code.
Today, Samantha lives in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest with her husband, two beautiful children and one crazy English Bulldog where she spends her days writing, drinking coffee, and desperately trying to stay warm.

Comentario breve. Mujer inglesa conoce a hombre escocés y se ven envueltos en "un abismo de pasión incontrolable". Nada que no esté en las sinopsis de otras novelas, y aquí no ocurre nada que no pueda encontrarse en ellas. Es un cliché detrás de otro. Perturba demasiado la cantidad de abusos a la que está sometida la protagonista. Sólo tiene 2 puntos a favor: la mujer no es la dama en apuros que no puede rescatarse sola y el interés amoroso en cuestión es un caballero en serio (y no el tipo de hombre que otras novelas presentan como tal).
La escritura (y la ambientación en el siglo XIX) deja mucho que desear. En una página, la protagonista tiene ojos color violeta. En la otra, son azules. También pasa con el personaje masculino: tiene ojos azules, hasta que en otro momento los tiene verdes ¿Es necesario que aclare (y que encima se equivoque) el color de ojos? No. Pero en estas novelas siempre son el principal atractivo. Es lo que hay. Después no se quejen cuando una dice que es literatura para pasar el rato.

Este libro tiene equitativamente acción, intriga y romance, algo muy inusual en este género. El centro de la escena no fue la historia de amor, sino que fue más bien un complemento de una trama compleja sobre la guerra silenciosa entre los británicos y los franceses a comienzos del siglo XIX.
Nicole es un personaje muy fuerte e inteligente, no es una dama inocente que necesite ser rescatada por un hombre. Es una asesina al servicio de la corona británica, pero tiene conciencia y un alma atormentada por un oscuro pasado. Daniel es adorable, en cierto sentido más inocente que Nicole. Ambos se salvan el uno al otro muchas veces y su amor es creíble, se da de a poco, cuando comienzan a trabajar juntos.
La trama es intrincada y va armándose poco a poco usando diversos puntos de vista, a veces inconexos, que se van uniendo al final. Incluso tenemos capítulos con los antagonistas. Como un buen juego de espías no faltan las intrigas, las torturas y los asesinatos. Cada personaje se mueve en un mundo de sombras, donde no se puede confiar en nadie y el más mínimo error puede llevar a la muerte.
Un gran hallazgo en este tipo de género, refrescante, sexy e intrigante. Espero poder leer más de esta autora en el futuro.

August 29, 2023At some point I traded for the three books in this series, and read the first without wild enthusiasm… which led me to wait a while before reading the second. I think I enjoyed this one more, and appreciated the courage and strength of the lady in question.
At times the hero irked me - over-drinking at times, and at others showing up unexpectedly, which did not always help the heroine much.
Interesting how guilt - ridden they both were, given their (or rather, her) line of work.

The first half of the book was too implausible and the plot almost ran like a sitcom. I really did not like how Daniel inserted himself and several times jeopardized Nicole. In fact, it should have ended their mission right there. He acted too much like the idiotic headstrong heroine instead of the hero. However, the story tightens up a lot more towards the end. It was still pretty contrived and implausible but the characters were developed enough to carry thing along.

Con este libro llegó el momento en que me cansé del género romántico. Es siempre igual y los personajes son super planos. Con respecto a este libro: tiene una buena trama, pero está muy pobremente escrito y los personajes son muy poco creibles. Parece como si lo hubiesen querido terminar rápido para publicarlo cuanto antes. Le falta "algo más".

Me pareció intolerable, recalcan DEMASIADO lo muy atractivo que es el coprotagonista y lo mucho que quiere "comérselo" la protagonista. Demasiados clichés románticos, algunos bastante "estilo wattpad". Si acaso tiene ciertos momentos bueno, no se salva la novela.

Adictiva. La leí de dos sentadas, no podía parar.
Cuando te dicen que Nicole es una asesina, es que ella es eso, una asesina; infiltrada en Francia para matar a aquellos políticos que abusan de su poder y posición. Y Daniel no es más que un mensajero destinado a avisar a Escorpión de que corre peligro y llevarlo de vuelta a Inglaterra. Cuál será su sorpresa cuando se dé cuenta de que Escorpión no es nada más ni nada menos que una mujer.
Tenemos a una protagonista fuerte, que se sale mucho del estereotipo de damisela en apuros, y a un protagonista masculino que respeta al género femenino pero que ha crecido con la idea de que los hombres han de proteger a las mujeres, y ahora se topa con Nicole, quien no se deja domar por nadie ni necesita protección alguna.
La lectura es muy amena, no tan centrada en el romance como yo esperaba, aunque sí que tiene sus momentos, sino también llena de acción. El "vivieron felices por siempre" no es algo predecible desde el principio como en la mayoría de las historias, porque la situación en la que la autora pone a los personajes te hace dudar y no sabes si terminarán juntos, o siquiera vivos, para el final.
Sí, la historia tiene algunos fallos. Alguna que otra cosa me pareció un poco apresurada, como que los personajes pasen del estado me-estoy-enamorando al de doy-la-vida-por-ti-porque-sin-ti-me-muero en solo unos capítulos poniendo de por medio una situación de vida o muerte, pero tampoco me voy a quejar mucho porque disfruté el drama, no te voy a mentir.
Este libro lo tomé de la biblioteca, y como en ningún lugar aclara que es parte de una serie, no me enteré de ello hasta que lo revisé en GR. Por lo tanto terminé leyendo el segundo libro de tres y no comprendí a qué venían las apariciones de otros personajes, aunque ahora sé que algunos son del primer libro y otros serán los protagonistas del segundo. Admito que esos saltos de la pura acción de Francia a lo que pasaba con los otros personajes en Inglaterra me descolocaron un poco, pero supongo que lo entenderé mejor si leo los otros dos libros de la serie, lo que haré porque me gustaría leer la historia de Juliet y del hermano de Daniel, Seamus si mal no recuerdo.
En fin, La asesina es una historia atrapante, la mezcla perfecta de romance y acción, que tiene unos personajes, en especial la protagonista femenina, que se salen mucho de lo que estamos acostumbrados en la histórica romántica.

Riveting!
This is an exceptional book....absolutely five stars! Political intrigue, romance, sensual love story, heart stopping action...stupendous! There aren't enough adjectives to describe this book.
Saxon thrills with an interesting plot and memorable characters. Her plot builds on intrigue and filled me with anxiety as she takes us on the journey of an assassination plot against a high official in Napoleon's hierarchy. From start to finish Saxon managed to draw me in and control me with tense anticipation as day by day the preparations by this enigmatic lady unfurl. How, why and what makes for a lady assassin?
From the first book in this series, we are reintroduced to the magnetic Scotsman, Daniel. He deals with his own demons as he is pulled into the machinations of the assassin's plot.
I very highly recommend this series and book. Very well done! On to book three!

Aunque flojeó por momentos, en general estuvo bien. Un par de cosas predecibles, un villano que chafeó al final, pero una linda historia. No tanto como me habían dicho, pero estoy checando algo más de la autora, sobre todo si hay más libros de los otros personajes que salen aquí, los quiero leer XD

pulp romance with the requisite sex scenes that i skipped over. these books are not researched very well, and usually feature at least one or two misspelled words, usually homonyms. "assent" for "ascent" and so on. don't bother.

I read this book right before it was published with the new title and cover (as The Lady Killer) and I loved it even more than the first! Ms. Saxon writes just the type of Historicals I like: Smart, sexy, and with plenty of suspense. I highly recommend this series!
