It’s the early days in an Age of Abundance, just decades into the future. Consciousness continues to co-evolve with the self-empowerment technologies at meteoric rates. Still, some would use these gifts to wage evil on the world. One psychopath and his cybernetic creation, a nine-year old girl, are out to save humanity from itself. Clyde Barker is convinced that self-empowerment and self-directed evolution is an affront to God. How could mankind take over his own ascension without bringing down the house that God made? One might think that even a genius in fashioning human upgrades and a cybernetic little girl with a four-digit IQ would be easily neutralized in an Age of Abundance in any event. One would be wrong. You see, Clyde has a rather unique skill. One might say a special power. He can pop in and out of timelines at will, steering them in the direction he wants without anyone being any the wiser.
Of course, nothing comes easy, not even to a clever, highly-manipulative psychopath. Kendra Harding is the detective heading up the hunt for Clyde Barker. Her on-again, off-again lover, Torin Zealton, her partner in crime, is both the coroner and highly psychic. Getting into her mind uninvited as a matter of habit has all but destroyed their relationship. But getting into Clyde’s mind might just save the world. Of course, how does one come up against a time bandit, exactly, particularly one with a cybernetic sidekick that belongs if not to another era, then certainly another decade or so into the Age of Abundance, when minds are closer to Singularity, and evolve at speeds beyond human comprehension?
The four timelines explored, in which Kendra and Torin chase down Clyde Barker and his cybernetic creation, give us four different takes on a near-future Age of Abundance, each more glorious and fantastic than the last. Seeing the romance between the wisecracking protagonist paramours evolve across four different timelines, moreover, replete with its ups and downs, lends the love they share an epic, eternal quality. One that might survive Clyde Barker, even if nothing else does.
While action-packed sci-fi/techno-thrillers set in the near future are my forte, I also stray into other genres from time to time, such as space operas, paranormal fantasy, and detective stories. All my novels can be described as action-thrillers, no matter the sub-genre.

I live in the country where I breed bluebirds, which are endangered in these parts, as my small contribution to restoring nature's balance. When I'm not writing, or researching my next book, I may also be found socializing with friends, or working in the garden.
If you'd like to know what compels me to write, it's simple. I write as a force for peace. Fiction has a way of engaging our whole minds, not just our intellects, but various layers of our conscious, superconscious, and unconscious. Novels also encourage our left and right cerebral hemispheres to get in sync and, with just enough magic and wizardry, can help to transform people into more enlightened souls (the writer included) better than a hundred years of therapy or rational arguments to the same ends.
I've remained a lifelong student of philosophy, spirituality, psychology, science, and the arts.

Ok let me confess, I made a mistake in how I approached this one. A while back I watched half of the first episode of Breaking Bad and thought it was rubbish. Weeks later I got into it and loved it. Well it was a bit like that here. Not that this book opens badly but I stop started the first few chapters as I was too busy to get stuck in and it did the book an injustice. Once I set some time aside and got stuck in, I realised that this is a cracking story. It is a bit mad to be fair and very different to anything I have read in a while but that’s all great. The author clearly knows where he is going with the complexity of this sci-fi- crime-techno-thriller what do you call it book but keeps the reader guessing as he goes. I prefer narrative to dialogue to develop plot as a rule but in this case it works. I really enjoyed this despite my slow start and I know I will read more from Dean C Moore now I have a taste for his work. Start to finish it is a veritable feast of originality and entertainment exactly as a good book should be. Well done Mr. Moore.
In the not so distant future, readers are going to step into an unusual world of artificial intelligence combined with our own in a fast paced thriller that crosses four time lines. Clyde Barker, a man wreaking havoc, and his strange partner, Notchka,a nine year old girl are going to take Kendra and her ex-husband Torin on an adventure of unbelievable and incredible story lines. The four timelines are Praxis, Nexus, Solaris and Thombari and each one will have the reader wondering just how close to reality this story could be. The author does a great job combining science fiction and science fact in a story that will have readers turning the pages as fast as they can, Dean C. Moore has a wonderful ability as a story teller and readers get to reap the rewards of that.
This is a special book because it transcends the usual Sci-Fi paradigms and merges with New Age themes such as Ley Lines, mental energy, chakras (as in yoga) and even debates issues of enlightenment and whether forcing it upon others who are not ready for it could be damaging. Psychology is also thrown into the mix, as the main characters deal with their ‘hurt inner child’ and parent issues, which are all handled expertly with some tongue-in-cheek humour and witty dialogue. But the real mind-blowing stuff is the Sci-Fi world of the not-too-distant future called the Age of Abundance where technology has advanced so that buildings can morph, and a spaceship can shapeshift to provide a toilet or anything else the occupants merely think of, due to the psychic abilities implanted in people and inanimate objects. Personally, I got a huge kick out of these morphs and modified beings, especially as they seem to appear when you least expect them. As if all this is not enough, the main characters, who are lovers and work together on the police force, have to stop a man on his idealistic quest to enlighten the whole world in his own way, and they do so by entering several different timelines or parallel worlds in which their counterparts are at various stages of progress and enlightenment. With so much going on, it’s no wonder that this is a very long novel, and I found myself needing to pace the reading in order to fully digest the many layers and different timelines. Perhaps other readers would enjoy it just as much without delving deeper, but for those who would like some extra substance to challenge and broaden the mind, this is the book to get!
Kindle Unlimited {except for FutureScape 1 for some reason, but I had it from freebie day}, working my way through his books, all of them are sci-fi in some way, some more 'out there' than others. This one was NOT ARC but is on KU, but #2 and #3 are not AND #4 coming out soonish, but this one was by far, so far, the oddest {so far}.

This book is ultimately about good vs. evil. That said (and written from the perspective of a couple who find themselves caught in a life which becomes less about doing their thing, than being able to rocket across the universe, travel through time, and fight epic forces) that this is a key, other major elements are also there: the role and nature of God in a post-humanistic world and how are humans going to evolve. God is in conflict with the development/"evolution" of humanity - what is the place for God (and religion) in this post-humanistic state? How do we think about the evolution of humanity, given the extraordinary powers that develop (through an evolution of mankind, plus an explosion in tech). Techno-thriller, but also futureshock book. While we may not be seeing their adventures any time soon, so much of the daily-life elements in here are all-too likely to occur. Extremely fast-paced, highly-complex and raises quite a number of basic questions about who and what we are. While it is long, well worth the investment.
If you're interested in reading something highly original, that extends boundaries and makes you think then I'd recommend you take a look at this sci-fi/thriller. I've never read anything like it before and I found the read truly mind boggling. I think this author may have the most incredible imagination of anyone writing today. Detective Kendra and psychic Torin are on the tail of Clyde Barker who with his child prodigy may be about to destroy the world or possibly save it from destruction. To complicate matters Clyde has learnt to travel through parallel universes so in order to capture him Kendra and Torin must do the same. Kendra and Torin discover different versions of themselves and start to question their existence and purpose in an attempt to decide whether a world in which everyone creates their own version of reality and operates at a higher level of being would be a blessing or a disaster. Throughout this futuristic thriller the author raises interesting questions about identity, philosophy and religion in a most unique and intriguing way. My brain feels a little fried but an exceptional and entertaining read.
The detail and intelligent plotting of "Time Bandits" makes it worth the effort reading. It took a little while to get a feel for the characters but after that as it picked up the pace it made for a really good read.
The story poses all sorts of interesting questions about live, the universe and everything to coin a cliche- and to me the author's take on evolution and where it might lead (and even what it actually means for the future) not only underpins the theme of the book but resonates with me as the reader. Provoking thought in an age of simplicity and inattention is to be applauded, and Moore certainly manages that with "Time Bandits".
Furthermore, like other works by this author I can't help but feel it would make a really good film, or perhaps could even be exapnded into a series, which would allow the more complex themes to be explored in greater detail.
An ‘Age of Abundance’ is the first book in Dean C Moore’s Time Bandit series. It is a largely complex, original and highly entertaining sci-fi, techno-thriller that seamlessly merges science fiction with reality. It is a very full and long novel that is best read closely and at a slow pace to assimilate all that is going on in the many layers and across the four timelines of this story. Populated with strong characters. The action is interspersed with witty dialogue between Kendra and Torin,on and off lovers who are on the trail of Clyde Barker and Notchka his nine-year old cybernetic creation to stop them progressing their plan to advance self-empowerment and self-evolution in an affront to God. Well written prose with the brand of tongue-in-cheek humour we have come to expect from this talented author.
Time Bandits is a fascinating book, though not always easy to follow. I was attracted initially by the age of NotchKa, so I reread the early chapters and I’m very glad I did. Notchka, who is cleverly presented sometimes as a nine-year-old, and at others almost emulating the genius of her creator, Clyde Barker, can cross time zones, and that is the least of her horrific skills. The pair’s intent to advance humanity beyond anything I could imagine, or desire, must be stopped, but can the detectives find them in time and, if they do, have they the power to stop them? The dialogue drives the story, the action is almost non-stop, and the twists and turns make for an un-guessable conclusion.
This was a good read set in the future. I enjoyed the Sci fi elements and the mystery that surrounded this book with a bit of thriller thrown in too. A good page turner.
Sci Fi Detectives with an attitude! Clyde Barker is one evil dude, but his childlike cybernetic creation Notchka is truly breathtaking as she wreaks havoc in this Sci Fi mystery. Take an old-fashioned thriller, combine it with mystery and intrigue, and sprinkle in the combustible relationship of Detective Kendra Harding and Coroner Torin Zealton you’ve got an action-packed story that is difficult to put down. I loved the four time lines, and the well-written prose, witty exchanges, and non-stop action is enough to make me want to pick up another Dean C. Moore novel! Highly recommended!
A well crafted sci-fi adventure mixed with some old fashioned detective work and memorable characters. This book is extremely well thought out, well written, fast paced and never a dull moment. It draws you in from the beginning and keeps you on the edge of your seat. It's almost terrifying to think that may very well be our world some day. Highly recommended! Will definitely check out more of Dean C. Moore's work.
Dean C. Moore writes intelligent tecno-scifi. The subject material is very unusual, the plot a slow evolution as Detectives Kendra and Torin hunt for Clyde Barker and his young protégé. Extensive dialogue between the characters is detailed and clever, but slows the action.
