Lee Hunnicutt is The Internationally Unknown Author. He has written five time travel books, “The Travelers”, “The Travelers Book 2” and "The Travelers Book 3" and "The Travelers Book 4 and book 5", that begin in 1970 Panama Canal Zone. Three twelve year old kids enter an Indian burial cave and are transported to 1870 Colorado where they lived with the Cheyenne and later mined gold. What the readers are saying about “The Travelers”:Nicole – I loved this book! I was hooked from the get-go and could NOT put this down! I ate it up and could not wait after one adventure to move on to the next!Roger – This book is a movie waiting to happen. It has lots of action, all sorts of special effects, evil cowboys, noble Indians, resourceful young people, a strong female protagonist, and even a touch of romance at the end.Annabella – A really good story that all ages might enjoy reading. It would make a great movie. I am a senior citizen and couldn't wait to see what happened next. All the characters were interesting. I would like a continuance of this book written.Elizabeth – I read this book twice and am waiting impatiently for a sequel. Not since Outlander have I enjoyed a book more. If you like time travelers, adventure and a great story this is the book for you. Lou – Enjoyed the book. An entertaining trip.Vivian – I started slowly on this book, sort of trying to work out whether this was my kind of story. The further I got into it, the more difficult it was to take a break from it. When I turned the last page, there was an immediate "Oh, no!" moment. I couldn't believe there was no more left of the book. I wanted more! This was a well-researched book...well written, and well worth the read for any age from young teenager to adult.
The book was very well written and presented the viewpoint of the Indian society and beliefs at a time when the white man was expanding their grip on the lands of the Great Spirit. The main flaws in the book were that the protagonists were too proficient and adaptable regardless of what they were doing and that the events surrounding the actual time travel were not as well described as they could be. Perhaps in the next book things will be tied together better.
Liked it for Want more. Very Good read. Wish all children got survival skills in school. Would fit into that era very well myself. Did many years off grid
This was an exciting adventure book to read. I can see why it will be made into a movie. The 3 main characters are very well drawn and are each endearing in their own way. The only thing i hated about the story is the cliffhanger at the end of this book. Oh well, guess I better hurry and close so I can get the second installment.
A really good book. The main characters were strong and very personable. It was a great relief to have such realistic personalities, that did not use stupidity to develop anticipation in the story line. To the author good job for your first book....
The story flowed, from one improbable event to the next. And it flowed great. Each thing was reasonable however improbable the total was. I was nearing the end and hoping for a second one with the same people. So when they return to the 1870 time will they stick with the old firearms or get new ones? They would be a hit in modern day, with the language skills, the horseman ship abilities and general attitude.
Now that's a time travel book! Three twelve year olds swept from the 1970's to the western plains of 200 years ago. The adventures were continual and bold. If you are a fan of time travel novels then you won't want to miss this action packed novel! Very well written and well edited.
The writer warned me right up front about the imperfect editing, and he was right, it's rough. I would have given 5 stars if he had taken there time and effort to at least have a buddy proofread it. There story, though, was terrific. I really enjoyed the characters and look forward to reading more!
The lives of three young people are forever changed as a result of curiosity and their deep friendship. A delightful read as well a a learning adventure into America's historic past. Highly recommend it if you like unusual adventure and history from a different point of view.
I have always enjoyed reading about young people and almost seeing the changes as they grow in character. This is an excellent book for all ages and now I MUST go buy the sequel!
Amazing story, written so well, that you will feel like you are right there with them when they are going through all of the adventures. So looking forward to the sequel to see what happens next, are they able to come back to Anne? Cannot wait to find out.
Loved it from beginning to end. The adventures the kids had after arriving in 1870's Colorado were mesmerising. And the training they had from Frank was unbelievable helping them to survive each situation. Anxious to finish the whole series. A must read adventure!!
Lee Hunnicutt has created a story like none I've ever read. I absolutely love this book. Aside from a few grammar errors this story is exceptionally written.
The story kept your attention and it was an easy read. I’m hoping there is a 2nd book. The story could continue in many ways and make it more interesting.
I read the author's forward so the first thing I will say is that I have read many books and have sincerely struggled was fair number which just weren't very good. I thought it was very honest that he did ask readers to be gentle because this represents his first effort at a serious project. In all honesty those words are both humbling and a tiny bit of a problem for me. So first I will say I'm pretty sure this author has a good book within himself. This one is probably not going to be the best. On the heels of that comment I'd like to say I might return to finish this story because it did have some interesting moments and some humor, along with a genuine attempt at entertaining readers. But I had to put it aside for now. I got about halfway through, but I knew I wasn't going to be able to finish at this time. Three reasons why. First I have just finished about 6 books on time travel adventures and I think I need to give the topic some considerable distance for now. Once you get too invested in the genre patterns begin to develop and plot lines merge along with characters, setting, and mechanics. I prefer to give good authors my full attention and I can't do that with so many different figures sort of blended together without enough separation to be able to keep the stories fresh and unique. Secondly I become more than a little obsessed about minutiae. Things that stand out as being so far out of even vague possibility stick with me and tend to interrupt the timelines which becomes tedious and I begin to stop caring about the characters and their situations. Finally I have to start a story with a baseline of probability. That's what made me put this book back on the Kindle hold list for now. I just couldn't see how three 12 year-old kids could manage everything they were dealing with and maintain such aplomb, display effortless intuition and make dozens of crucial survival decisions based on the assumption they had only a few short weeks of summer interludes with their "hero-figure" named Frank. Even if they were exceptionally gifted and creative, regardless of how each one got along with Frank or each other (2 were siblings?), it just wasn't plausible for them to begin a journey in the jungle of Panama and wind up in the western regions of the United States fully one hundred years in the past, during the times of the great Plains Nations people- without so much as batting an eye or losing something they desperately needed to survive and return to their own time and place. 12 year olds? No, sorry too much of a stretch for me. They seemed to pull any and every thing they needed from their packs, introduce modern technology and gadgetry into their respective roles and never once know hunger, fear, pain, confusion, or critical experience. 12 year-olds. Most 12 year-old kids I know can't make themselves peanut butter and jelly sandwiches if they're hungry. But these kids can catch trout for breakfast, make tin can stew over a campfire, manufacture travois stretchers and set compound fractures without a hitch. All while engaged in a battle for survival and success in a time so foreign to themselves that there was no explanation or reason how they managed to stay alive. It began to fall apart for me after they killed a 19th century gang banger, rescued and nursed an injured and captive warrior chief to return him to his tribe and didn't even develop a blister on a finger the entire time. It wasn't a plausible story for an adult reader. I want to add that I still may finish this book but for now I have had enough. I think however this book might be a good read for a teen or young adult reader. There is just enough going on to interest a younger reader and the dialogue that takes place isn't too complicated or overwhelming for a youthful person. I'm just a bit older than original sin, and I do appreciate complex conversations, in-depth discussion and a touch of adult experiences along with a good story. This didn't deliver for me but I may still keep it around for a quick read a rainy afternoon. But not today.
Three 12 year old kids follow their uncle into a cave in Panama and are transported from the 1970s to the 1870s. I've got to say, the 12 year olds do things that I can't see 12 year olds doing. Towards the end of the book when they were 17 it became more believable. The book was too long not to have chapter breaks. I found myself skimming over their arguments which just made the book longer. Not sure I'll continue with the next book.
This has been the BEST book I’ve ever read from an indie author! And I have read many! I love books about time travel and this did not disappoint. Other than the few editing mistakes of saying cloths instead of clothes and saying Sonny had a pornographic memory instead of a photographic memory, (of which I had a really good laugh over) I’d be happy to share the edits with the author. Can’t wait to read book 2!!!
To bad theres no additional books to follow. It's a good story. If you like time travel knowledge as well as western and native American life, this is the book for you.
I didn't want to put it down but when I had to I couldn't wait to get back to it I haven't cried while reading a book in a long time ,I cried and had to put the book down for a few min What a great storyteller Thank you
I could not put this book down. It is incredibly moving, funny, scary and sad. Internationally unknown author? Not for long! I loved this book! Wonderful writing and the plot was the best I've ever read.
1st 2⁄3 of the book really dragged. Also hard to believe 12 year olds we're so sophisticated but the last 3rd sort of made up for it. It was very readable and flew by
