Kate Stevens has made a home away from home at Once Upon a Yarn, the Texas-based handcraft shop owned by her friend, Paige Bryant. But now Paige is missing, and it's up to Kate and her best friend Vivi Lawrence to discover who has taken their friend -- and why.

Was it Ezra Bond, the owner of an adjacent business who has had repeated run-ins with Paige? How about Patrick Bryant, Paige's seemingly devoted husband? Or has Paige fallen victim to some senseless act of random violence?

It's between 3 and 3.5 stars for me. I found this book while looking for additional titles in a different series. I think I found 2 books from the series. This was the first of the 2 that I have that I've read. It can be read as a stand-alone, though there were a few times that I think knowing more about the characters might have helped.

There was an attempt to develop multiple suspects in Paige's disappearance. I'm not sure it was as well done as it could have been. It was nice to see a mystery that wasn't based on a murder though.

I did eventually figure out who the "villain" was before it was revealed by the storyline. I usually don't so those who enjoy a challenging mystery might find this one less challenging.

Not quite 4 stars, but that will do for now.

Cute, cozy mystery. Nice to read in the fall under a blanket. Short, simple writing to read the book in one sitting. This book is part of a series or collection that can be read out of order. The author's writing has not fully developed. It's pretty basic.
There are several characters that are just OK. They work in this book given the unrealistic nature of the storyline. The dialogue and actions read more like a youth's mystery. The main detective, Peter, seems weaker in this book compared to the others.

This is one of the stories centering on Kate Stevens and friends. She suffered through an abusive marriage, but she and her daughter started a new life in Texas. She now teaches crocheting and writes her books on style, crocheting and knitting. In this adventure, the owner of a yarn shop where she teaches a class is kidnapped. --- This is a nice cozy mystery with very little sex or blood.
