Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents, Stan and Jan, working together to write and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too. Mike is married to Andrea and they have three children. They live in Pennsylvania, in an area that looks a lot like Bear Country.

Mike's earliest memory is of his parents studio in suburban Philadelphia. He remembers sitting on the floor scribbling on yellow typewriter paper with a big black pencil. His mother looked at the tangled hairball he had created, pointed out some random shape and said, "Look! Youve drawn a fish!" It did, indeed, look like a fish. That was his first drawing lesson. Hes been drawing ever since.

Aside from drawing, Mikes primary interests growing up were playing whiffle ball with his older brother Leo, collecting insects, stamps, coins, bottle caps, baseball cards, etc., building model planes, playing Davy Crockett in the backyard and fishing. He was also interested in watching the creation of his parents magazine cartoons during the 50s and finally, the birth of the first Berenstain Bears book in 1962. Hes often asked which is his favorite Berenstain Bear book. The answer is THE BERENSTAIN BEARS PICNIC, created when he was twelve. It features a picture of Papa Bear getting a big load of garbage dumped on his head. He thought this was very funny. Ever since, hes enjoyed drawing garbageapple cores, banana peels, old bed springs and the like.

Mike attended art school in Philadelphia in the early 70s, then worked as a designer in the Childrens Book Department of a New York publisher before starting his career as an author and illustrator. His first childrens book was published in 1976 followed by some thirty more over the next sixteen years. These ranged in subject from wizards to dinosaurs.

Since the late 80s, he has been very much involved as a writer and illustrator with his familys creation, the Berenstain Bears. He continues to work with his mother, Jan, creating new books, writing and illustrating.

Aside from the bears, Mike is interested in many thingsin classical music, American history, astronomy and physics. He likes to ski. He spends a lot of time with horses.

Mike is married, his wifes name is Andrea. They have three children whose antics and activities growing up have provided inspiration for many Berenstain Bears books over the years."

All the stories and illustrations in the 160-page book have appeared in other Berenstain Bears titles, so there's nothing really new here; though I'm not for sure if the "Carry On Cub!" parts are reprints or something written just for this title.

The book itself has been nicely put together with a cute cover art and an attached blue ribbon bookmark inside the book. Yes, the stories do have Christian themes, but none of them feels forced upon the reader. The stories all have great life lessons for kids, for example: helping your parents clean the house, helping your neighbor rake leaves, helping a classmate carry their book bag, etc..

Overall, The Berenstain Bears: Bedtime Devotional is a cute little book that will easily appeal to younger children. My only complaint is that the book should have also been available in pink for girls. Nevertheless, I'll be giving this devotional book to my little cousins.

This was a cute little devotional from the Berenstain Bears. It's very basic but it got my kids thinking at times and incorporated both scripture and stories and we enjoyed it. Each passage is just a minute or 2 long so you could read this quickly if you wanted.

This was a great collection for kids and families to read. The messages were clear and understandable, yet still meaty enough to matter.

My Review:

Mike Berenstain has really done amazing work with the classics his parents created. I really enjoy these books and many stories from my childhood and I'm able to pass them down to my children, as well. That fact alone makes me giddy!

A bedtime devotional is the perfect legacy to build with your children and grandchildren. It instills a love and gentleness in that relationship that will span generations. I have read to my children before they drift off to dream every night and my oldest has taken over with the youngest reading to him every night. My youngest says he feels loved more when we do this with him.

The Berenstain Bears Bedtime Devotional, is a devotional that includes 90 devotions that are based on scripture. each devotion describe a scene that happened within the bear family and then the devotion of the day is further discussed in the small section called Carry On Cub. Short and sweet and perfect for ages preschool to 3 but I read it to my 6 year old and he loves it.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author.

Growing up with the Bear family makes me nostalgic every time I review one of these new books from Zonderkidz. I love that there is a whole new series of Bear stories that can be enjoyed by our youngest generation.

As you know from previous reviews, the new Berenstain Bears books have a Christian theme to them. The messages focus on love, kindness, working together, and solving disagreements. All the same messages the original books encouraged, but now with a Bible verse tied in.

The Bedtime Devotional book is a great compilation of 90 devotions to be shared with your child at bedtime. Each page includes a Bible verse, a short Bear family story or reflection, and a small prayer. Some pages also include a paragraph encouraging children to think about something in particular as they fall asleep. Accompanied by an illustration featuring the Berenstain Bears, this book is perfect for short attention spans and for a quick read before bed.

Bound in a small hardback format with an attached ribbon for book marking pages, the size and format is perfect for small hands.

The book opens with a longer bedtime prayer and then the book is divided into nine chapters, each with a specific focus. For example, in the "Be A Good Friend" chapter, each of the devotionals relates in some way to being a good friend to others. If your child has had a trying day, the chapters make it easy to locate a devotion that might resonate particularly well.

Overall, a beautiful book that would make a great gift for little ones.

Thank you to Book Look Bloggers and Zonderkidz for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

My grandchildren were delighted to view the new Berenstain Bears Bedtime Devotional . . . it’s the perfect addition to our family library — and a perfect choice for my granddaughter to read from each evening before she hops into bed (like brother and sister bear).

As a Christian family, we have a special appreciation for Christian faith-based stories in the Living Lights series.

The Berenstain Bears Bedtime Devotional shares many wonderful bedtime devotionals — 90 to be exact — enough for an entire season. We’ll be starting it for the winter season and we’re looking forward to our evening devotions, especially my granddaughter, who loves to read.

This is a great addition to your family library. Be sure to pick up a copy soon for your family . . . and get a few extra copies to give as Christmas gifts.

This book will most definitely be a blessing to children (and parents) everywhere!

Happy Reading!

THE BERENSTAIN BEARS BEDTIME DEVOTIONAL for boys and girls features a cute picture of brother, sister, or Honey Bear, includes a short scripture verse, a story relating to the Berenstain Bears and the scripture, and a bedtime prayer. A good way to teach young readers who are Berenstain Bear fans to end the day with devotions. Recommended for Berenstain Bear fans everywhere. A great devotional to read to your nonreaders in bed or in a cuddle time before bed.
