It used to be challenging to find a Bible that provided you with enough space to write in, but these days, thanks to the booming interest in creative Bible Journaling, it’s easier than ever to find a good Journaling Bible in the translation of your choice and in a reasonable-size print if your eyes require it.
For many, the KJV Journal The Word Bible (Large Print) will be an answer to prayer. Written in the time-honored tradition of the King James Version translation and printed in 10 point font (which doesn’t sound big but in the world of 7.9 font Journaling Bibles, is larger than most), those of you who are looking for a classic KJV Journaling Bible with plenty of room for note-taking will find that this Bible more than meets your needs.
Here are a few of the KJV Journal The Word Bible’s features:
* A plain black cover that can easily be painted, collaged or decoupaged by creative types * Lined, wide margins for notes, reflections and art * Elegant, thicker, cream paper for long-lasting notes * Larger, 10-point font to eliminate eye strain when reading * Words of Christ in red * Ribbon marker and outer strap to hold Bible closed
Now, even if the King James Version isn’t your translation of choice, if you are serious about Bible study, I recommend using this Bible for your word studies, as most references are keyed to the KJV and this Bible allows you to take notes right next to the words and passages you are studying!
One thing to note – if you already own a Journaling Bible in a smaller font size, you will find that this Bible is probably a little thicker and heavier than your current Bible, due to the larger print size (which results in more pages). As a result, you may find this Bible better suited to home use than travel.
The benefits of the larger font far outweigh the weight issue, however. This Bible is definitely worth your consideration and is particularly well suited for men as it does not contain the frills and floral themes of many Journaling Bibles!

First sentence: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
I spent months looking for the 'perfect-for-me' wide-margin and/or journaling Bible. There were two things I was unwilling to compromise on. First, I wanted a font size LARGE enough to comfortably read. This eliminated probably eighty to ninety percent of the Bibles out there. This Bible is 10 point font. There is another wide margin Bible that is 9 point font. But I decided against that once since the margins in that one were maybe-maybe one inch. Second, I wanted a margin size that a 'normal' person could write in comfortably. Many wide margin Bibles simply have margins of one inch--even if that one inch is at the top, the side, and the bottom. It just felt too impossible to be realistic. This one is single column and allows for wider margins. Definitely wider than one inch. I'm not absolutely convinced it's two inches. But it is definitely wide enough for anyone to use.
This one is the KING JAMES VERSION. It is wide-margin. It is single column. It is red letter. The paper is on the creamier side--not perfectly white.
I started this one on December 24, 2024. I finished this one on March 31, 2025.
I love the King James Version. I don't love red letter. However, that is something I find myself compromising on most of the time since most King James Version Bibles are red letter more often than not.
About the Bible: It is hard cover with a bit of texture and is a little on the heavy side, but does lay flat when it is open. It has an elastic band to help keep it closed and a black ribbon marker to help you keep your place. The font is 10 point making it larger and easier to read. The print is crisp and clear on the cream-colored paper. The text is closer to the center of the Bible leaving no space in the center to journal but it has nice wide outer margins with plenty of space…approximately 2 inches. The front page has a place to write the name of the person to whom the Bible belongs, then a table of contents, alphabetical order of the books of the Bible and Epistle Dedicatory for the King James Version. The pages are a bit thicker than other Bible pages. It also features the words of Christ in red.
My Impression: I have been looking for a no frills King James Bible in which to journal, so when I received the “KJV Journal the Word Bible” in the mail last week I was ecstatic. It was exactly what I was looking for. I have never been one to draw in my Bible but I am a note taker and write things that inspire me as I read. Since I love stamping and journaling I thought I might like to try my hand at using stamps and colored-pencils in my Bible. I have been doing a bit of experimenting and am finding that colored pencils (I use Prisma colored pencils because that is what I have) are the best medium to use for coloring and pigment inks for stamping, but “stamp-off” first to insure there is not too much ink on the stamp. Just remember when using pigment inks they need time to dry properly so not to smudge when you close the Bible. Also clear stamps are the easiest to position so that is currently my choice so stamps to use. My pen of choice for journaling is the Pigma Micron pens and Sakura Gelly Roll metallic pens also work well. They do not seem to bleed-through, but again they need time to dry/cure before closing the Bible or turning the page, otherwise it will smudge. I have not been brave enough to try dye yet. The cover has a bit of texture, but I think it could be easily embellished to suit your personality. All in all I love this Bible. I also love that it is the King James Version!
If you are a fan of journaling/note-taking or would like to expand to using pencils, pens, stickers, stamps and etc., this is the perfect Bible. It would also make a great gift for your crafty Bible loving friends.
Disclosure: I was given a copy of this Bible by the publisher, Thomas Nelson, through Harper-Collins. I was not required to write a favorable review nor was I compensated for my review. The opinions in this review are my own.
The KJV Journal the Word Bible (Large Print) is a Bible designed for those who like to write notes in their Bibles. The text is laid out in one column on each page and next to the column of text is a ruled margin for writing (or as is also advertised: for creating art - but I don't necessarily recommend that).
The paper is very easy to write on with pen and pencil (I like how the pen just glides along the page). The Bible when opened really does lay quite flat, which also helps in writing neatly. It would be useful in writing particular exegetical comments down, noting insights from your pastor and perhaps noting other translations of particular verses. I don't think that there is enough room to write notes on each verse on any given page, but one normally doesn't write a lot when noting things in a regular Bible, just the things that really capture our attention and that we want to remember to associate with the text.
I kind of wish that they would have put the writing space at the bottom of the page (as study Bibles do with commentary) instead of next to the Biblical text. It would help with organization: one could just write a tiny number next to whatever verse a particular note pertains to and place the same number next to the handwritten commentary below for reference sake. It wouldn't be quite as distracting as having one's own notes right next to the text that do not necessarily pertain to the verses one is reading at the moment (as one's notes can take several lines down the side of the page and thus seem to encompass several verses).
But I still think that this is a pretty handy Bible to have if you like taking notes in your Bible already, and you could just do the drawing arrows to the verse method of pointing out which particular verse you are commenting on. Or I suppose the numbers reference method might still work in this format as well.
The version I have is a hardcover, but there are several other editions as well (including leather), and also other translations.
I received a free review copy of this book from The BookLook Bloggers Program (My review did not have to be favorable).
I love this publication of God's Holy Word! There are so many wonderful aspects to this new copy now available to you! It is large print which I find very useful so my eyes to not tire of reading the word of God; it is a sturdy hardcover which has the unique feature of easily lying flat open on a table or your lap; it is the KJV version which is loved by many. To add to my list, it is a red-letter edition and the main feature of this version: it has plenty of room on the margins for notes and/or artwork!
This Bible is one of the best I have seen published in a long time. Excitingly, it is perfect for men or women, boys or girls making it the perfect gift idea!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.
Thick and heavy, this filled Bible is great for gifting to anyone who either has a love of God or a reason to learn. You can create and inspire yourself or a loved one by personalizing this. I really enjoyed spending time with this Bible and would recommend it to any teen or older age male or female.
