Kings and Presidents: Politics and the Kingdom of God

God isn't asking the church to be politically uniformed, apathetic, or even bi-partisan. Tim and Shawna Gaines help us recast our political hope by challenging the claim that history is written by the powerful.

This is the first book that I have completed in 2021. I got this book 4 and a half years ago at Palcon. I have started and quit this book several time over those years. But, something changed last Monday before riots and talks of invoking the 25th amendment. Over the last week and a half I have been challenged by this book everyday and the scripture reading as well. I would recommend reading this book especially if you hate discussing politics.

Such a timely topic as our nation is rocked by political strife. Our pastor started a book club before the election this year and we have delves through 2 Kings during a church pandemic. This is rightly so a book more about holy living than politics but lends itself to lively debate about politics. Very interesting read!

Essential reading in divisive political times. The prophets have so much to say to us, even in an
American context. Timothy and Shawna do an amazing service to the prophets they write about, and bring about timely messages for our context.

This is a good look at politics through the eyes of 2 Kings. I appreciated this book a lot.

This book gave me a lot to think about. It felt repetitive at times, which is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.
