Awesome, amazing and loved it! I like seeing the same scenes from both characters’ POVs. It could have seemed like filler, but I enjoyed it. 5 stars and can’t wait to start the next one!

I was rather worried at how this series was going to continue after the climax and resolution of the major plot points in the previous volume, but the third entry of this series actually does a pretty decent job in continuing Bakarina's story without being too contrived.

If the first two volumes are the prologue, Bakarina's story probably begins from here properly since she can't rely on her past life's knowledge anymore. With that, the story gets expanded more here with the introduction of more peripheral characters, such as the other Stuart brothers, whom with form the crux of this volume's story.

Of course, Bakarina's antics is the real attraction of the series, even if she actually doesn't get as much appearances due to the volume being told from different point of views, especially from the main cast and the major new characters introduced this volume. This volume has her involved in another kidnapping attempt and I'd dock points for reusing this plot so fast after the previous vol, but Bakarina just makes it work somehow.

More importantly, the book also takes the time to lay out the foundation of the following books, with Bakarina catching the eye of someone incredible, who is also one of the most intriguing characters so far, and potentially setting her up for employment in to the story's version of law enforcement. Given her.... disposition, it is a promising future setup to see bumbling detective Bakarina, with a heart of gold and lack of sense, but somehow always managing to get to the main point of things.

Anyways, having high hopes for the next volume.

Welcome to volume 3, in which somehow Katarina manages to create Catastrophic Ends all of her own.

With the official events of "Fortune Lover" now complete, our dear dunderheaded Duke's daughter bumbles into another kidnapping...somehow. Honestly I'm laying the blame here all on Keith and Jeord dropping the ball on keeping an (overprotective, intense) eye on her.

WE FINALLY MEET A CHARACTER NOT UTTERLY GOBSMACKED IN LOVE WITH HER THOUGH.

Actually there's TWO who aren't. Its refreshing!

A fair deal of this book falls into one of three categories: Katarina's new, relaxed approach to life, the observations from several of the characters in love with Katarina and rehashing a lot of things.

Part of what I both like and dislike about this volume is that some of the events are told from three different perspectives (Katarina +2 others), with only the inner dialogue/reactions changing so it feels dejavu redundant.

I like Selena and Lana and Jeord's confidence. I nearly wept for poor Nichol. Alan, you may be just as dense as Katarina.

Not a bad volume by any means, just it repeats itself a lot more than makes sense.

Not the greatest novel since sliced bread, there is some rehash in this (kidnapping plots, dark magic), but I did enjoy parts of my time with it.

First half is basically school festival time, but that's pretty much restricted to 3 venues: 1) the food stalls (Katarina's most anticipated venue to stuff her face; she even has her maids loosen a dress for her before the event), 2) the magic display event (which we barely get to see / not too important but just an area for us to have Joerd's Bros come to meet him and Katarina again), and 3) the stage where our heroes will perform a play (what role will Katarina play? Read to find out!).

Second half is that kidnapping and dark magic based rehash. There are some differences of course in some of the characterization here (a more organized criminal element, versus Raphael's more haphazard kidnapping attempt).

The jokes sometimes hit, but again, lots of rehashed stuff (Joerd vs Keith with their 'pleasant smiles'; Alan being brash with Katarina; Katarina being forgetful; Katarina getting 'mosquito bites').

There's a bit of a mystery element to it, but I don't think they give you enough info to figure anything out, it's just revelations from the characters themselves.

This volume introduces more about the Ministry of Magic, which is a pretty multifaceted organization. But for our purposes, the big thing is that Raphael is being forced to work here under observation (after the kidnapping incident) and Maria is planning to work here after schooling to be near Katarina. Can they rope Katarina into working there? I guess we'll see. And it just might interrupt Joerd's Marriage plans... But he's not having any of this if it's up to him. What drastic action may he take to convince Katarina of his love?

Not as strong as previous volumes, but still a hoot

Volume 3 was a fun read, but it had its flaws. A lot of them... Mostly with the pacing. The first chapter felt like an extended introduction and dragged, and with chapter three, it was a race to the finish. Chapter two, while fun, probably should have gone elsewhere either as a bonus chapter or dispersed throughout the first (admittedly already bloated) chapter.

BUT

It has all the charms of the first two volumes in its characters, especially Katarina, and the main conflict fits right in with previous stories. The new characters of Jeord's brothers and their betrothed, the new villain... Perfect.

This volumes really improves on the last two. I think the plot of this volume, having carried over the entirety of the volume and not just the last couple of chapters, really aided the story and the pace. A common complaint with this series is after reading a long chapter or section from Katerina's perspective, the next section or chapter will be the exact same, same conversations and everything, but from a different point of view. This volume does continue this but I do think that more often than not, the new perspective actually provides something new to the story. Especially with the plot in this volume, the multi-perspective actually makes sense.
I also really enjoyed the advancement of the relationship status with Katerina, never pushes too much to break down the lovable core of the series but doesn't stay in the same place like a similar series (Miraculous.) It's also less teasing, this series keeps the core without having to rely on gimmicks and teasing to keep it going. It can advance and have the same feeling. Also, I must say two pages to four pages even of chapter one had my heart thriving with all the content for Katerina and Maria shippers haha, I love them.
Another area this volume improved on was the writing itself, I think the writing started to flow better and felt a lot less younger fanfic-y than previous volumes. Not sure if this is due to the improvement of skills of the translator or the original writer but definitely makes the experience more enjoyable and less disrupting.
Finally, I want to mention that the characters are building well I think, while such a large cast doesn't leave much time for each of them to thrive, I think that their connections to one another are growing, where they don't JUST spend time with one another when Katerina's around. While it didn't go very far, I definitely felt it improved on previous volumes. (Most of this review is just really saying the series is improving and I'm so happy that it is if that wasn't obvious.)
Definitely looking forward to the next volume to see if it keeps growing like my love for it does haha.

The Magic Academy is holding a school festival, and Katarina couldn't be more excited. Food, friends, and best of all, no looming Bad Endings to spoil her fun. But she forgot that just because the game's plot is over, doesn't mean the dangers have passed. . .

This is the weakest book by far. The repetitive structure of telling and re-telling a scene works especially poorly here, as far too much dialogue was repeated, and much of the repetition could have conveyed the same information in a few lines rather than a few pages. If it weren't for the later parts of the book it would be an easy skip.

However, once Katarina is kidnapped, the story picks up significantly. Not only do new character perspectives help the re-telling portions to feel less dull, but Katarina manages to be so stupid throughout the whole endeavor that her kidnappers feel the need to sit down and explain that she's been kidnapped, and isn't that supposed to be a problem?

Overall if you liked the first two books a lot, this one is probably okay just to keep things going. But if the retelling portions really annoyed you, then this book is going to be a slog. Even if you liked those parts, it's still something to skim here. I rate this book Neutral.

This is by far my favorite volume. While the ratings say 5 stars, I think this actually deserves 4.5 stars.

As a Nicol fan, it is my duty to point out that the Nicol and Katarina moment during the school festival was swoonworthy from both Katarina and Nicol's perspectives. 100% loved it. I need more.

Okay Nicol details aside, there is finally some progress between Katarina and one of the LIs of the story! Huzzah!

Since I read volume 2 and 3 back to back, I really delt the extent of the specific LI's interests feelings. As of now, I am rooting for the that LI and Katarina to get together.

Buuut main harem aside, we are introduced to the princes' two older brothers, along with their fiancées. We also get to know the blue-haired man from the cover.

Honestly, aside from Prince Ian, one of the brothers, and his fiancée Selena, the other characters were NOT what I was expecting. It was so refreshing to read about them because they're so different from what I expected (okay blue-haired man not so much but it was still a refreshing POV despite something he did ehem).

Also the whole repeating scenarios with different POVs doesn't bother me as much anymore.

I actually ended up liking some of the different POVs because of all the insight we actually get! For example, most (if not all) of Jeord's POV contained new things to learn about the prince. There was minimum repetition if the same dialogue, and the same events were retold in a different enough way that it felt nice to read about! Well done indeed.

Repetition, however, became the main reason why I couldn't give this volume a perfect score.

This one retelling in the middle of the book through Selena's eyes did not provide anything new. In all honesty, the book would've been fine without it. In that scene, Selena had openly expressed all of her feelings clearly, and her personality is clearly portrayed through the dialogue, so I feel like the POV could've been entirely scrapped.

Moreover, different characters kept bringing up the Dark Magic incident from the last volume, so I was constantly reminded of it. Once or twice would've been sufficient, thrice or more is kind of pushing it.

All in all, this was still an enjoyable read. The harem's dynamics with the main character was more than enough to make this a very entertaining volume.

Was super excited so immediately jump into book three as i'm enjoying this series so much. As the first 2 novels in the series basically take place during the events of the game the world is based on, it's interesting to see where the story would take itself after this. and...to be honest, it's still not bad. it has some great moments. Not as great as 1 or 2, but still some great ones.

We get to see Catarina play a bad guy in a play as well as be introduced to a new villain. I like how they're continuing the story and we get to see how things progress from here, and honestly, and this is a rarity for me, i actually don't know where this is going and i couldn't tell you who she's going to even up with romantically at the end. I have some inklings, but this is one of the few times where I actually couldn't tell you with certainty who her final love interest is going to be (and that's saying something considering she has a fiance in the series).

Catarina is still as sweet and dopey as ever (maybe a little TOO dense at times, but it's part of her charm most of the time) and the new characters we get to meet are interesting enough and i don't really dislike any of them.

Between everyone in the cast, i'd have to say my favorite male is probably the brother Keith and favorite female (not including catarina) is PROBABLY going to be Sophia just because she's so sweet and adorable, yet also can plot things out.

It's weird though when i like 90% of the cast. even the villains are pretty cool as they're usually turned around by Catarina's dopey charms. I liked the festival part, and even the kidnapping was quite entertaining.

All in all, while i feel this one wasn't AS GOOD as 1 or 2, it still had the charm from the previous ones and i will definitely be continuing with the volumes moving forward.

4 out of 5.

Rufus to svou barevností zachraňuje. :D

I love this series an unreasonable amount so I can't give this book a coherent review. Therefore, I'll just be gushing over it instead.

-I love the cast too much...literally lmk why just reading about them going about their mundane festival activities was so enjoyable to me...
-I actually like getting glimpses into the thoughts of the other characters ( I can see why people would get bored with this repetition but it honestly doesn't bother me)
-Katarina trying to feed Keith was so cute?
-The scene with Nicol and Sophia during the festival was so cute!!
-Alan ruffling Katarina's hair!! cute!!!!
-I wuv Maria...
-Katarina: *sees a hot guy* "oh hes gorgeous"
-Katarina: *sees a pretty girl* "oh shes gorgeous"
-The scenes with "Rufus" and Katarina bonding were unexpectedly sweet and romantic??? Hope we get to see more of him in the next book.
-Jeord shoots his shot lmao finally

Having successfully evaded all Katarina Claes' Catastrophic Bad Ends from the otome game Fortune Lover, our protagonist is now looking forward to a fun second year at the Academy of Magic, and hopefully a long and happy life (which was denied to her in her otaku life by a premature death). But that was not to be -- she's kidnapped as part of a political plot, and has to figure out how to avoid being used as a pawn, or worse. Meanwhile, her friends are all trying to rescue her from whoever has her.

It's neat to see how she uses the skill in forming human connections that she learned while trying to avoid all those Catastrophic Bad Ends to gain the sympathy of the antagonist, and get him to reveal that he's a pawn in something much larger. So far the storyline hasn't jumped the shark now that it's resolved the original conflict.

Katarina is attending school festival! After the usual "I lost track of time" and lots of food, the festival ends and a calamity occurs! Oh no. What will happen to Katarina? I can't wait to find out.
Oh. But we're going to see the festival all over again, only from the POV of one of Katarina's male admirers. Well, that's fine. Just get through this...
Annnnnnnd, it's back to the festival through another admirer's eyes.
Then another.
And yet another.
More? I didn't even think there were this many.
Guess what gang? The book is now half over. Seriously. Half the book to describe one event. And the male admirers all say and think basically the same things. Multiple times.
I liked the first two volumes and the anime was hilarious.
This volume is terrible.

Another microdose of Bakarina. While I was reasonably sure that these were all the events that would be covered by this volume going in, it is quite shocking how little ground is covered in this book. Considering one of the five or so chapters is entirely dedicated to secondary pov's offering very little fresh morsels, it definitely begins to try my patience. However, the upsides are a cast expansion and a bit more revealed of the dynamics of the royal family. With this, I'm reasonably sure finishing the next volume will have me caught up to where I am in the manga. Perhaps then, the fact that these novels are so brief will function better since it's new story ground to tread.

“You should keep living your life just as you are… without ever being swept away by those around you.”

Sora. Sora. SORA!!! I like his chapters, I love his character. The symbol of promise was a fun scene. And we need more of him. I still hate Jeord, especially because he's so possessive and his actions are very nonconsensual. It is as Mary says, he's abnormal. I particularly enjoyed the sections with Keith, Mary, Nicol, and Alan. I have an idea and suspicion on how the love interests will turn, but I honestly don't know. I'm very curious to see how things will pan. So far, this book 3 is my favorite, probably because of Sora and that bug bite teehee.

ngl, katarina's harem is starting to get a little ridiculous but it's fun anyways! i think the ministry storyline could be cool, it'll give her something to do after graduating. props to alan for figuring out his feelings and maria for continuing to take the lead in the harem sweepstakes

(i mean yeah jeord got his kiss but does katarina's internal monologue go on about wifing him all the time? no it does not, my man will be in big trouble if anyone ever sits katarina down and is like u kno...sometimes compulsory heterosexuality doesn't need to be that compulsory...)

I've said it before. The writing is not good, even if the general story is entertaining. Unfortunately, it feels like it's just repeating the same tropes, so I'd like to see some actual character development. Basically Katarina eats and sleeps, and is incredibly dense. These are her defining characteristics, and they are getting tiresome.

While I like to see the other POVs, it's basically regurgitating the same words from a slightly different view. This is super repetitive and boring to read.

💘 love every book

I haven't written a review for the first two yet. I just finished number three and realised I have too. This series is too cute and good! So thankful this was created and that it's been made into an anime show. I purchased the manga first and loved them so much I wanted more. So that lead to me purchasing these books. An they are perfect ! Everything I wanted and more.

I just can't stop reading it. The plot is just getting better and better with the twists and everything.
It's lovely to see how all of the characters that used to defy against her in the game are the dearest friends in reality.

I like how she changes the characters' attitudes and it's funny to see how dense she is.
I can't wait to see who she really loves because right now she only thinks about her destruction ends and how to survive them.

I almost get annoyed with the split POVs that cover the same happenings in each chapter and feel like it's a pad to word count, and then I remember that these light novelists probably get paid by the word, so you know what, go them, frankly. Also starting to suspect that the protag may be unintentionally maneuvering herself into the actual protagonist character, and I'm hoping that Maria doesn't get "through a mirror darkly"'d. We'll see with the next book!

I really enjoyed the premise of this series but it should probably have ended after the second book. The constantly expanding cast is so unnecessary! Spend time developing the characters you already have! Not sure if I’ll bother to read book 4 or just let it go — I kind of doubt there’s going to be any romantic resolution anyway.

Didn't care for the plotlines in this volume. The cinderella play was lackluster and the kidnapping plotline was dull, not to mention the Jeord advancing as main love interest is exceedingly boring.

I did like the addition of Lana/Larna/Susanna tho, would have liked more on our master of disguise extraordinaire

I’d already seen the anime cover this part of the story, but wanted to read more of Rufus (am still bummed he didn’t feature in the actual otome they made). Otherwise it is exactly what you’d expect— more food, more of all your fav characters, more misunderstandings, and more of Katarina charming everyone around her.

Starts slow with the school festival, but afterwards is absolute comedy gold. It's really nice that the volume doesn't end in status quo romance-vice, and I can't wait to see what direction the next part goes.

Entertaining pisstake on otome tropes:

Katarina was originally supposed to be the villainess but now she's turned into the ultimate Mary Sue to where men and women love her.

This needs to be an anime ASAP. Katarina's about as smart as a box of rocks, but damn she's entertaining and funny

This is a great break from the action and dram that comes from some manga. I love how clueless Katarina is and how you get to see the other characters prospective. I hope this holds up as it was only planed to be two volumes but I love Jeord in this and it was fun.

I can't imagine Sora with long hair, I can't, no matter what the insert art shows. Whenever I read a scene with him in the book, he always has short hair! I've never been this frustrated with what my brain is telling me vs what is actually in the book.

Add another rival (or two)

These dumbasses are so endearing. Jerod shoots his shot. Mary is ready to go hulk on their asses. And Maria is getting craftier. I thoroughly enjoy this series. A perfect comedy.
