Blake Hudson is an environment officer who lives in a converted lighthouse on the southwest coast of England. Sky McPherson is a pathologist, recently assigned to the area. Both of them share a past.
Heathrow 101 has flown many routine journeys to and from Florida, so what made the 747 suddenly plunge into the Atlantic Ocean, killing all passengers on board?
Arthur Macelvoy has sailed many early morning fishing excursions on board The Sea Emperor without incident. So why did one of Cornwall's most successful fishing trawlers fail to return to shore?
Joyce Masterson has taken care of her invalid mother for years without ever complaining. So, what made her do those unspeakable things when the lights went out?
Through the course of their work, Blake and Sky set out to uncover the answers and this was their biggest mistake. For the truth is a conspiracy at the highest level and it will expose them to unimaginable terrors.
As the rain falls, and in a race against time, they will have to battle not only for their survival but for that of mankind against the greatest power on earth; nature.

I'll be honest--suspense novels and thrillers don't often give me a shudder, much as I enjoy them. This one did.
The newly revised edition of Nimbus: Hell on Earth is a fast and terrifying ride through what feels to be all too possible. Potential environmental collapse and engaging characters, along with writing that makes the book all but impossible to put down, made it hard to put this one down. It does verge on horror, and some of the events are terrifying partly because they do seem so possible, so this won't be for every reader. But, that said, I'm glad to have read it, and I'll read more from the author in the future.
Thoroughly enjoyed the read on here. It was a a bit different from what I initially thought, but it had the right amount of drama and adventure going to keep you on the edge of your seat! No spoilers!!
I finished the 50-page sample and I don't have a great desire to buy the book (although I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would). The prose is mediocre but not awful, not as bad as other self-published books I've read. I thought the main characters were pretty flat. The author has a tendency to give names or backstories to characters that don't matter because they die immediately, and that can get a bit tedious.
There were a couple of lines that just made me twitch, like the one about the police chief with ginger hair whose friends call him "Ginger". The female characters (so far, at least) were defined entirely by their relationships to the male characters. Even Sky (ha! get it! 'cause the book's about clouds!), seems to look up to the hero a little too much for a scientist who bucks the trend in the sexist society depicted in this novel. Except for Sky, women are put into secondary roles, like the flight attendants on the airplane at the beginning. There are two young women who have crushes on their teachers, and it's kind of gross that Sky and the first young woman in Blake's class both have the same wide-eyed, star-struck attitude around him.
Here's a quote of Blake's inner monologue after he explains something he's worried about to Sky: "She had listened to him without interrupting once and he had concluded that she had not changed at all. She was the same intelligent, sensitive woman he had known all those years ago."
This is implying that an intelligent woman is one who listens to a man without interrupting, not one who, you know, knows about stuff and has things to say. This book is full of young and impressionable co-eds and career women who are nothing without a man, like the woman on the airplane who looks with envy at the newly married couple a few seats away.
The mysterious plague could be interesting, though, and if I do buy the book (I just realized I have another week to read it before book group) it'll be to find out how the plot progresses.
This science fiction and horror story is interesting and enjoyable. There are some romances. Flashbacks are handled well.
I like the story but there are numerous typographical errors on every page! The author needs to hire a professional copy editor.
Aside from the errors, the writing style is a little weak. There are too many adjectives and adverbs describing actions that should be shown rather than told.
Possible inaccuracies: p.59, ¶11: In 1997, mainframes were mostly obsolete. p.118, ¶7: “Blake threw himself over Sky.” If their vehicle were about to collide with something, Blake would not have the time or foresight to do that.
Since this novel was self-published, it has great potential. The author can still clean up the mistakes and re-publish.
If you are looking for a nice quiet read for a Sunday morning this book is most definitely not for you!!! However if you are searching for a thrill ride of a novel look no further,my heart was pounding all the way through, the action is relentless and just for added measure there is a love story intertwined within. If you read it at night you will not sleep as the adrenalin will keep you awake,if you read it in the morning you will not want to stop so you will be late for work.
I have always enjoyed the style of writing stories within a story. Aside from the story itself being an engaging "page-turner", I like following the action from several different points of view. It has been a favorite book of mine, and I've read it a few times now. It's gripping enough to give me a feeling of suspense even when I know what's going to happen.
Excellent ,quick chapters but the action never stops ,wonderful location for the story ,you feel part of Blake and Sky's relationship and feel fear at what is about to be unleashed on the local community .
