Series or Standalone: Book 9 of the Second Chances series but can be read as a standalone

A few things I've come to expect so far from the stories created by L.P. Dover are that they're romantic and sexy with a touch of danger. This book was no exception. This was a contemporary sports romance with a bit of suspense thrown in to keep things interesting.

Jaxon was the star kicker for the Carolina Cougars. Successful in the NFL? Yes. Elsewhere in his life? Not so much. He had committed some bad deeds against a teammate that he's steadily working for forgiveness for. He's trying to change, but old habits die hard. Especially when the team has to welcome a new quarterback (Ryan). Jaxon instantly hates the guy and they have a pretty hostile "friendship". Typical of Jax's old behaviour, he decides to do something against Ryan. What better way than to go after the guy's sister. However, after one real meeting with Bristol, the last things Jax is thinking about is Ryan or payback.

There was plenty of instalust and instalove. Throw in a psycho who couldn't take no for an answer and went from being a one-night stand to a crazy stalker and this book was highly entertaining. There were some good swoon-worthy moments and plenty of drama was had within the plot. Many of the side characters have had their own stories within the series and I for one am plenty interested in reading them.

This is my first L.P. Dover book, and although it is a book number 8 in the series, it is a standalone, so don't worry, you won't be confused at all.
This is an insta-love sports romance with very likable characters - Jaxon and Bristol.
Jaxon is a professional football player, and player in every sense of the word. Ladies man, bad boy and a bit of a jerk. If you are into those kind of characters, as I am, you will probably like him.
From the outside, he seems like an a**hole, but in the end he is genuinely a nice guy.
Bristol is good girl in every sense of the word. She has been burned before, and she knows what it means to date a football player. She keeps telling herself not to date one, but there is just something about Jaxon...
Can Jaxon finally settle down with one girl? Can he win her over? You have to find out...
This was a fun read and I enjoyed it.

DNF @ 15%.

I enjoyed the previous two books I'd read in this series and I was looking forward to seeing how Jaxon was going to be redeemed. But that's not happening as I have no idea what's happened here but in comparison to the previous books, this was not good at all. I know 15% isn't a great deal to have read, but it was enough; the authors writing voice sounded nothing like previously, and that 15% was an info dump on secondary characters.

I was intending to persevere but my decision to part ways was suddenly cemented when the hero Yes he's a self confessed "bastard" but when he declares "I had to be at practice in an hour and the last thing I wanted to do was go there smelling like her pussy." , and then bloody decides to call the heroine, then sorry I'm out.

Jaxon Reed has a lot to atone for. He's the jerk on the team that has pulled some pretty awful stunts on his team mates because of jealousy. Just when you think he has finally learned his lesson, he decides to mess with the new quarterback on the team by getting involved with the QB's sister. What he wasn't expecting was to fall in love with her.

Jaxon was a pretty hard character to fall in love with. He has done some pretty mean things. While he seemed to try to be better, his jerkiness would still come out to play. It took until the last quarter of the book before I felt like I could even like his character. Bristol was a sweetheart and ultimately the reason Jaxon became a better man.

While this is book 8 in the series, it can be read on its own. ARC provided by NetGalley.

Jaxon is what everyone has come to expect as the “typical” professional football player bad boy. He has a bad rep, known as a bad boy and lady’s man. Going to get traded because his rep has fallen so hard, he plans and playing it safe...until Bristol.

Bristol is known as the untouchable good girl sister of one of Jaxon’s team mates and there is nothing Jaxon wants more than to get to “know” Bristol in every sense of the word.

Intended for Bristol is an insta-love contemporary sports romance. Predictable with really likeable characters that have heart. Easy and fun read with the HEA that we all love, Intended for Bristol provides a steamy romance that can warm up those cold winter nights.

Love is not something you go out and look for. Sometimes what you’re looking for is already there. Love finds you, and when it does, ready or not, it’ll be the best thing to ever happen to you.

Love found me in the sweet, sexy, and suspenseful sports romance, Intended for Bristol, by L.P. Dover. I lost myself in this spellbinding story, one that hit my heart like a fast-thrown pass and sunk itself into my soul. Intended for Bristol caught me like a football and claimed me like a touchdown.

The tender and touching tale grabbed me from the start, wrapping itself around my heart, where I did not want to surface for air until the very end. Pulse pounding. Eyes tearing. Heart breaking. Feels flowing. Heart healing. I WAS ALL IN.

Jaxon ‘Jax’ Reed is the hazel-eyed, dark-haired, tall, and muscular Carolina Cougars kicker—the most hated player in the NFL and a player off the field too. This playboy has no desire to settle down. Hit-it-and-quit-it is his mantra…until his hit was Bristol Thomas. What began as revenge to land the new and hated Carolina Cougars quarterback’s sister, Bristol, ended up as more.

"At first, I thought I wanted her out of revenge, but now I knew that wasn't it at all. I wanted her to myself."

Beautiful, dark-haired, green-eyed, curvy, and confident Bristol Thomas is an interior design extraordinaire. She is not looking for any relationship, especially with a Neanderthal football player, but Jax is different and feels like destiny.

"He had awakened something inside of me I didn't know I'd be able to control."

Jax doesn't pursue women. They come quite willingly to him, but Bristol is different. She is strong, witty, natural, beautiful and speaks her mind...and Jax wants a taste of her.

"I want you, Bristol. I don't think I can go for long without being near you."

Oh did Jax charm and claim every part of me! He is the perfect catch. ALL ALPHA. PURE PERFECTION! I LOVED Jax, and his dirty words and big heart so much.

Jax and Bristol's chemistry was electric like the buzz in the air during a sold-out football game. A slow burn sizzled through the story as the build-up brought on butterflies that fluttered with feels, my heart fluttering too. Jax and Bristol's passion pounded from the pages straight to me. The angst from that pent-up passion was an adrenaline-induced high…and oh did I FEEL THAT RUSH!

"She was the only woman to look at me like I wasn't just a famous football player, that there was actually more to me than that."

Bristol is the Jax needs to breathe...no longer a game but the woman who is slowly seeping into his heart, and oh did Jax bury himself into my heart.

"I can see the passion in your eyes. Not many people have that look."

"It's all because of you, Bristol. What you see is because of you."

Oh. My. SWOON! Jax made my heart beat to the max and my soul soar high in the sky. I was floating on Cloud Nine as I FELL IN LOVE WITH JAX!

While I was not a fan of Jax Reed in previous stories in this series as he stirred up trouble with the team, I was his biggest fan in Intended for Bristol. This story SOLD ME ON THIS AMAZING MAN! L.P. Dover wove her magic where I fell in insta-love with all things Jax, a player who revealed a hidden heart of gold.

"This guy was going to break my heart; I could feel it."

Has this player, Jax, finally stopped playing off the field? Will Jax convince Bristol, who has had her heart broken by football players that he wants to pick up those shattered pieces and make her heart his?

I SWOONED HARD over this sports romance sprinkled with sugar and spice. Intended for Bristol bled passion and promise. I swam in a sea of suspense as this fairy tale had a villain, making it explosive and even more emotional. My soul soared high and my heart was hit like a football over this sweet and smoldering story. L.P. Dover dropped a thrilling and tender touchdown of a romance with Intended for Bristol, a blissful book you need to tackle hard like a football.

A good read

Predictable with good characters told in dual pov's.

A star player with a reputation who falls for his team mates sister.

I struggled with Jackson and wasn't sure if I liked him, the fact that the football team seemed to hate onanother rather than work as a team I found iritating as I couldn't figure out how they won games with no team spirit.

I haven't read previous books so I have nothing to go on with the extended characters or what had happened in their lives prior to this book or had the chance to fall in love with the series so I was basically reading this book for what it is.

Jackson seems to redeem himself as the plot goes on and Bristol apart from being an easily forgiving person she was a good character.

As the book reached around 80% there was a bit of drama which I saw coming but it did add a twist to the plot and make it more interesting.

A good sports star romance with a bit of steam.

Arc gratefully received from netgalley.

*whistles*

I’m pretty sure the police department in this town needs to just spend their days following this team and their friends around, because clearly all the crazy people are already doing it. Wow.

Much like the previous books in this series, we’ve got a footballer gobsmacked in the face by love, one who is more than what he appears to be on the surface, but with Jaxon, what we’ve got, is much like we had with Derek and is something even more.

I have to admit I was quite taken aback by just how much I loved Jaxon. I expected to go into this based on his history with the people here, and the team and need to be warmed up to him, but that wasn’t the case at all. He was nothing at all like I thought he would be and I loved that.

What hit me, the same way Bristol gobsmacked him was his relationship with his family. Just how treasured and beautiful it was. It gave this supposed man whore/playboy a whole other layer to him and it was a beautiful thing to witness for this reader. He definitely wasn’t what I thought he would be and much like Derek before him, I fell in love, even in the midst of the crazy that ensued and it didn’t let up, even when I closed the final page.

Enter Bristol. Also not a conventional character. A driven individual with a great deal of love and respect for those around her, but none more so than her own brother/family. I enjoy the way this author writes her heroines because even before the story really takes off and we get into the heart of the matter, I’m already hooked onto them. Their strengths, their ability to not take what some others might laying down and to never give up, even in the most insane situations and keep fighting until the bitter end. It makes it so much easier to connect to the romance that unfolds and that’s exactly what happened here.

I enjoyed these together even with the whole forbidden type feel of it considering who she is and who exactly Jaxon is to her family in the long run. They were sexy, they were stormy, they were at times, very raw and real and I found myself easily becoming invested in just how their story would turn out.

I got everything I wanted, especially with the way things wrapped up in the suspense department, something I’m coming to learn the more I read by this author seems to be her bread and butter with the appearances it’s made in every book I’ve devoured by her thus far. I loved the characters, I enjoyed the flow of the story and I even enjoyed the crazy a little more this time around.

The additions of all the previous couples and insight into their own happily ever after’s and how their lives are all changed and adapting was a sweet little bonus. It was nice getting to connect with previous characters again even if it was in a lesser way than what took place in their own.

The story I wanted for Jaxon after meeting him in previous books, I got here and anyone that’s a fan of this author or this series, should definitely snag this one up and give it a shot because I think you’ll feel the same way.

My thanks to the author and all others involved in letting me read this before official release. Bristol and Jaxon’s journey to happily ever after is one that I’m glad I got to be a part of.

4 1/2 stars

I really enjoyed Intended for Bristol! It's well written, character driven and has several great storylines. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of some of the elements related to pro-football were too unrealistic for me. (I used to cover the games as a TV photojournalist) I understand creative license but this was too much for me...but I'm probably being picky.
Jaxon is a manwhore and and asshole. In a previous book he did something really shitty to one of his teammates and he paid the price by earning the ire of him team. He's finally redeeming himself with the team although he's still a one night stand kind of guy. That is until he meets Bristol. He doesn't really understand why she's different or why he's attracted to her in ways other than to have sex but he wants to get to know her.
Bristol has been around the block with pro-athletes before and she wants nothing to do with any of them. She's happy in her job as an interior decorator with the top firm in the business. She's been in their Charlotte office for a year now. She's been working so much that she hasn't really made any friends and hasn't dated after being humiliated and heartbroken by her last relationship with a jock.
When Bristol and Jaxon meet Bristol doesn't know that Jaxon is a football player and when she tells him she hates jocks he doesn't want to tell her until she gets to know him.
Besides hiding the secret of who he is Jax has other skeletons in his closet.
Eventually Jax's lies come back to bite him in the ass. He loses Bristol once and was able to get her back with lots of pleading. But then something totally unexpected happens that has Bristol running for good this time. What she doesn't know is that her life is now in danger as well as Jax's life.
The way that Bristol and Jack loved each other was beautiful. There are sex scenes but they are love scenes not down and dirty sex scenes if that's what you're looking for. I enjoyed the closeness the love scenes brought between the two.
The secondary characters are all interesting. Some fun to love...others fun to hate! Although this book is part of a series it can be read as a standalone.

I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Told from dual points of view, Intended for Bristol follows the story of Jaxson and Bristol. Jaxson has made a lot of mistakes in his life. He’s made enemies out of his teammates and has the title of the NFL’s most hated player. However, there is more to Jaxson than meets the eye and it’s just going to take the right woman for everyone to see just how amazing and different Jaxson really is….Bristol doesn’t play games and doesn’t like football players. Burned from the past, Bristol avoids football at all costs. She had no idea that meeting Jaxson was about to turn her entire world upside down.

Overall, I thought this was an enjoyable read. It was a super quick read. One that you can easily finish in just a few hours. I liked Jaxson and Bristol right away. Jaxson was so cocky, I couldn’t wait for the right woman to walk into his life and make him fall. I thought that Bristol was a great match for him. She was a no nonsense type of girl, who wasn’t about to waste her time on a player. She was smart and when she loved, she loved with everything that she had. She made Jaxson open his eyes and see that there is more to life than silly rivals and that love can bring out sides of you that you don’t even know exists.

There were a few bumps along the way, but honestly, this was an en enjoyable read for me. Bristol and Jaxson’s story captured my interest and had me turning the pages quickly, to see how things were going to turn out. I loved that this wasn’t just a sports romance, but it was also a story of redemption.

Intended for Bristol was a quick and easy read for me. It was a nice second chance/sports romance. I think it had a nice balance of drama and romance. I loved that there was also some suspense and a really great, unexpected twist.

I struggled with this one. First, as I don't think the blurb is accurate. Unless I missed it, he was still a part of the team where he was less than popular due to things he has done in the past and was not transferred to California but stayed with the original team? Other than being a little confused by this, it didn't impact the story.

Jaxon and Bristol were both realistic characters, for the most part. That said, I never really grew to like Bristol all that much. She never really seemed 3 dimensional to me and I was not ever really sure what Jaxon saw in her. Nor did I ever really believe his interest in her was in any way to get back at her brother.

But it is a pet-peeve of mine when one of the people in the relationship keep a major secret from the other. It makes it difficult for me to really invest in the story as it never feels like the relationship is totally authentic, which was the issue I had with this book. I was also never fully convinced they, with a brother on the same team as Jaxon, that Bristol wouldn't have at least had an idea as to who he actually was. This not only got in the way of the story for me, but also had me questioning if Jaxon really was a different person than the one he had been in the previous books.

I am not able to really recommend this book, as I had issues with the overall plot. However the writing and the pacing were both strong.

This book start really good. Jaxon is an asshole and knows that he is a competitive guy. He made a lot of mistakes yet he is taking one by day. Jaxon is the guy that you love and hate he does not apologise. When a new soccer is on the team he has to give the guy some lesson.

And its that when the plot increase for me. All the players seems more enemies than a time. And Jax intentions towards Bristol was very clear from the begining. He likes her. Bristol is an architect/design not sure what her profession. So Jax wants her to re-model his house and the guy give no information of he does?!! Bristol also wants to make her job and yet she falls for him.

Their relationship starts very quickly there is no build up. Bristol is very confusing for me, she wants things slow and still wants the guy to profess his love for her. When the secret is revelead Bristol changes 360, now she goes to the plays-she NEVER went for her brother's and goes to her boyfriend now- and is dating a player. When she remember us all the time that she wants not to get her hurt.

And everything is normal and ok between even when Bristol does not believe that Jax changed. So why she is with him. The plot twist I did see coming but I did not liked it. This was some kind what your actions can get back at you? the author did not a good build up for their relationship and the end everyone is friend and this white rich people are the nicest.

I LOVE this author. I loved this whole series. I'm not holding this book against her. It was still a good book, just not one that is going on my favorites list. Every other book of hers that I have read is there though, so I highly recommend anything that this author puts out there. Seriously, I promise that this is a good book.

Oops....I love it when I read book 9 in a series first. I really enjoyed it all the same and I'm looking forward to reading the others. Although I really liked Jaxon in this book and it sounds like he was an asshole in the previous books so that part is going to suck I guess, but I'll get over it.

Who can resist when the bad-boy man gets his second chance at love and his well-deserved HEA? Well, no one. And Dover knows damn well how to take these second chances in whole new levels, making them from the best in the literature world. And by default, once again, she delivers a novel which will have any reader reeling for days.

Intended for Bristol is the 9th novel in the Second Chances series and, for those who know, is the incredible story of Jaxon Reed – the guy that made Evan and Summer’s relationship go through a rough path?. But, now, that Jax couldn’t be more of an ancient instant of the brand new Jaxon Reed who tries to make amends with his mistakes and quited behaving like an arse to everybody. And just on the moment that he had “give up” on having his own HEA, he sets eyes on Bristol Thomas. Although, the things are bound to become extremely complicated, dangerous and walking-on-edge.

Jaxon had started in the series prortraiting himself as the super asshole and that guy who loves making the others miserable. But everyone’s time to grow up and face the reality is coming some day. And he has maybe changed a lot from the start, but he has one last game to play. Which, actually, ends the moment it starts when Jax has a whiplash of the powerful emotions he feels flowing through his body for Bristol. Since then, it’s a delicious, intense and passionate downhill for the both of them. Each one gets its own reality check and in a blink of an eye, their life start making sense.

The connection these two develop is deep and undeniable. Neither can stop stay away from each other, nor stop needing each other by their side. And just like every other couple, they have too go through the customed rough path which will only strengthen their love and their foundation as a couple that is fated to last forever. Both have to fight themselves at the same time with fighting the outside obstacles life throws at them. Especially one specific which, not only had all my hair rise up high, also proved to be one very challenging and lethal one if not handled with the utter care.

Dover never stops surprising me with the stories she comes up every time. Each one of her books are a small treasure and a world where you don’t want to get out from. Especially this series, whose’s characters second-chance tales warms my heart every time. I surely can’t deny her ability to create magic with her stories and neither should you. Book after book, Dover has become an author that I never let pass me by. I really can’t wait what she will do next with Second Chance because I feel like I can’t get enough of any of its heroes; I simply need more and more. And Jaxon definitely needs more unfolding.

I hate, hate, hate DNFing books for reviews. but I made it to about 20% before I just couldn't anymore. The writing is all tell, tell, tell. Too many names and details that aren't really necessary. Not in an info dump right in the middle of actual action, anyway. I get that there are a lot of players and back stories from previous books in the series, but if you're info-dumping all over the place in the middle of a scene that's supposed to move the story along ... it just does not flow at all and makes it even harder to follow than if you'd let me get caught up later on.

The dialogue. Very unnatural sounding. I mean, I don't know any NFL players personal, but the dialogue between the players in the book just did not flow naturally for me. Especially not when the two POVs the story is being told in sound so similar. Not exact, but for as different at the two people are supposed to be, there should be a much bigger divide in their voices, and I just did not get that here at all.

With so many of the technical things that niggled at me, the story itself was pretty predictable as well. I realize I didn't make it far enough for the meat of it all, but everything up until then seemed to move as expected.

While I loved the concept of this story, there was just too much technically that distracted me from the concept. I just couldn't get past it all to finish.

** I received an advanced readers copy from Loveswept via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!**

Intended for Bristol is the 8th book in the Second Chances series but it can be read as a stand alone. I have read some but not all of the previous books. There are reoccurring characters but each book is about a different set of characters.

This book was really quick and easy to get through. Although it was a little bit too insta love for my liking it still had all of the components that I enjoy in a contemporary romance. It was also nice to revisit some of the characters from past instalments.

I have to admit that it took me a while to warm up to Jaxon. I remembered him too well from the previous book where he was not at all a good or likeable person. Going with the "second chances" motto I pushed my feelings aside and eventually found myself routing for him. Bristol, on the other hand, I liked immediately. She was smart and motivated and had a good head on her shoulders.

My only complaint about this book is that it was a little busy. I could get past the insta love but with the lies of omission complicating the relationship and a crazy fan aspect, Jaxon and Bristol were really on their toes for the entire 233 pages. Having said that, it was still quite entertaining.

I look forward to what comes next!

Let me start by saying that this is the first book in the series that I have read. You don’t really need to read the other stories first as a lot of the connections with the secondary characters are explained. In saying that, I probably would have liked this more if I had read the other books.

I felt like something was missing throughout this book. The characters felt shallow and unexplored, and it was difficult to see how they fell for each other so quickly. The story also felt rushed and could have used more detail.

Jaxon is a “reformed” bad boy, but he only seems to be reformed towards certain people. I didn’t really like him as a character, he seems to really want to atone for his past indiscretions. However, he starts off the story wanting to hurt someone that hasn’t done anything to him. I didn’t understand his motivations behind his actions and I found it difficult to warm to him.

I also didn’t really like Bristol. She supposedly loved her brother yet didn’t watch him play football or try to get to know his team mates. I know her reasoning behind that was because she had been hurt by an ex-boyfriend, but I still thought it was very selfish.

Overall, I didn’t enjoy this book as much as fans of the series probably would.

Received from the author from NetGalley for a honest review. This is my 3 book from this series and all are different with a common link the "Football". And all keep us connected with other in the series like Derrick & Haydem, Evan & Jessica and so on. This story we get a chance to re connect with the bad boy kicker Jaxon, who is trying to get back on everyone's good side again. Meeting the lovely Bristol the sister of the new cocky quarterback Ryan, Jaxon thinks that this could be a good way to put the new QB in his place.
Jaxon discovers that what he thought would be a payback may turn out to be his future but will Bristol give him a chance once she finds out Jason's truths? Another fun read about the Carolina Cougar football team!

First off, the blurb is wrong. I was confused in the beginning of the book. I thought maybe it was supposed to be about Bristol's brother? Jaxson doesn't get traded. After I got that sorted out, the plot was pretty predictable. I do like this author a lot and have read just about all of her books. I liked that Jaxson was able to redeem himself with his team. I liked that Bristol saw the good in him before she learned of the bad. Together they make a very sweet couple.

It was nice to catch up on the other couples from the team as well. Always happy to read this author. This one wasn't my favorite of hers but I will pick up the next for sure.

*ARC received for an honest review.

L.P Dover made me cry! Jaxon Reed is the kicker for the Carolina Cougars and one of the most hated men on his team. After much groveling to get back into the good graces of his teammates, then he meets Bristol at a local tavern. She is everything he never knew he always wanted. Bristol and Jax start to spend time together, only catch she doesn't know he is a footballer player which she despise. Can Jax overcome Bristol issues and those of his stalker to find love.

TL;DR: TSTL main characters and author who couldn't remember her own story.

Book could do with better editing to ensure coherence in the story.

Chap 6, Bristol
" My mother had Ryan just out of college and his father was too involved with partying to take responsibility. So she left and took Ryan with her. When she met my dad, he fell instantly for her,
She married my dad and a couple of years later, they had me."

Chap 8 Bristol "Ryan was only one year older than me".

Top notch super smart Bristol, so brilliant that her boss leaves her in charge before going on vacation and yet she can't recall what a client said during a meeting?

Chap 6, During meeting with a client (Reed) he tells her "I’m a single guy with no particular taste in home décor.”
Chap 8, Bristol, while driving to Reed's house, " I had no clue if he was married"

Immature heroine: Guy loses his mom and less than one week later you break up with him because he didn't tell you something. Have some heart! Other time she receives lewd pictures and she just gets mad and leave without trying to find out what's happening. That's like 2 days after the guy's house has been trashed. That's after she receives the letter at the guy's house - like it is not obvious for anybody with 1/2 a brain that this is specifically targeted and malicious?

TSTL heroine. Towards the end of the book, this is Ms. I am soo smart I was recruited across the country to work for an exclusive architect firm: "All night, I’d pleaded with Jaxon not to get me a bodyguard. " also . Someone needs to rewrite this book and take her out of the gene pool!

TSTL "hero": This is quite funny though. So, stalker/blackmailer/person who owns a gun and Stupid. I root for the deranged character here.

When all is said and done, the stupid live to celebrate Christmas. And again the author has forgotten that in chap 6 she had made Bristol and Ryan's mother afraid of flyin. In Chap 31, Bristol says "Instead of traveling to Texas to see my parents for Christmas, we flew them here to Charlotte".

Jaxon is the bad boy that rivals all others, this sexy Kicker for the Carolina Cougars just doesn't know when enough is enough. We have seen him try to steal his teammates girlfriend in Catching Summer by arranging for the ex-girlfriend of the player to be found in his bed by the current girlfriend (that Jax wanted for himself) and had a used condom on the floor to look like they had sex...seriously who does stuff like that?? Jaxon that's who! So he's moved on and is trying to curb his outrageous behavior...like that's even possible...anyway, we saw that he can be a true friend to those he cares about like Hayden Hunter who we met in Defending Hayden along with her boyfriend and his teammate Derek. Now this is Jax's story and I had no clue what to expect.

Intended for Bristol (Second Chances, #8) by L.P. Dover

When Jaxon met Bristol he knew there was something about her he wanted, so he sets out to hook-up with her because that's his MO, just hooking up and moving on, then when he finds out that she's the sister of the new quarterback on the team that he doesn't like he thinks that this would be a perfect way to get back at him. Typical Jax, is he ever going to change?

Intended for Bristol (Second Chances, #8) by L.P. Dover

There is a lot of angst in this story because hey, its Jax did you expect anything less? But besides all of the craziness going on with Jax and his crazy ass one night stand turned stalker, I really liked Jax and Bristol together, they were good for one another.

Intended for Bristol (Second Chances, #8) by L.P. Dover

Each of the books in this series (Second Chances) can be read as standalone's but there is character overlapping so if you want the full immersion of the series so you know all the background of each of them start with the first book, otherwise feel free to jump on in with Jax and Bristol.

Intended for Bristol was a great 5 star read.

Bristol is excited that her brother Ryan is moving to town to be the quarterback for the NFL team Carolina Cougars.. Due to being hurt in the past she stays far away from his teammates and the games.

Of course her brother doesn’t make a great first impression and Jaxon sets his sights on getting him back. When he see’s Ryan talking to Bristol at the bar he finds his mark and moves in on her. Little does he know that his life is about to change.

When Bristol meets Jack she is immediately drawn to him. Bristol works as an interior designer and Jaxon wants to have her do some work for him. Jaxon doesn’t tell her who he really is, and when they start to get closer he dreads having to finally tell her the truth.

This guy was going to break my heart; I could feel it. Yet there was something about him that drew me to him.

Just when Jaxon was ready to tell Bristol everything he is called away for a family emergency. This was a huge ugly cry moment for me. There were so many other twists and surprises I was always on the edge of my seat. I read this whole book in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. We do see a HEA but it was not an easy road for these two. It was great seeing the other characters from the previous books, they all add a great element to the story. You don’t have to read the previous books to enjoy this one, however you will love the whole series and I highly suggest you 1-click and get started. L.P. Dover has become one of my favorite authors to read, I have enjoyed everything that I have read and look forward to what’s coming next.

This is the first book I have read by this author and even though I received my copy via Netgalley that was not a final version of the book and there were many errors in the version I was reading I do hope they were corrected. I am going to base my review on the fact that they were corrected in the final version.
Even though this is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. The author did a good job with providing the needed information about the prior characters to not leave new to the series lost. The series is about the players of a football team and this book is about Carolina Cougars kicker, Jaxon Reed. I’m sure he was met in prior books and is not well liked by half of his team things he has done in his past. He may be the best kicker in the NFL, but at the same time is also the most hated. Once again he is up to his antics and sets his sights on the new quarterback’s sister, Bristol Thomas. What might have started out as revenge turns into so much more, but will his lies ruin what he didn’t realize he wanted?
Bristol doesn’t want anything to do with the sport her brother is involved with. She avoids the players and the game at all costs. Her focus is on her job as an interior designer and has dreams of where she wants her career to go. Meeting Jaxon changed things for her, but will she be able to look pass his lies and things he has done in the past to give her heart to him?
This story is a quick read that will have you wanting to know if they will have the HEA (happily ever after) or will too much of Jaxon’s past and lies keep that from happening? There were many predictable parts to the story, but they are delivered uniquely and add in the twists to the story keep your interest. There is a side to Jaxon that most of his teammates don’t see and it was great to see those moments, especially when he was with his mom. I also enjoyed how the author didn’t have all the teammates getting along. It showed that not everyone that works together get along, but will to what it takes to win the game. I really do hope that the errors were corrected, because this was a great read and I was sad to see it end.

A great story about second chances that you won't want to miss! It had a intriguing storyline, interesting characters, humor, secrets, angst, deceit, and surprise twists that will have you turning the pages to see what happens next. This was the first book in this series that I have read, but realized quickly that it wasn't necessary to read the others to know what was going on. There are many details about the other characters, and their stories, that I felt as though I wasn't missing anything. This was a great read, and one I would recommend to others.

I really liked Jax, aka Jack, but there were a couple of things about him that didn't fit, at least not for me. When the new quarterback arrived, he basically claimed that it was his team to lead and take care of. It would be ok except that normally it's the qb's job to be the leader of the team, not the kicker, who's rarely on the field or around the other players during the game. That was kinda odd for me. The other thing is that when he deliberately tried to get between another player and his girlfriend, even after it was all over, he only seemed to be somewhat sorry for his actions. He obviously wasn't too sorry since he was going to do the same thing with Bristol, until he found out that she wasn't the new qb's girlfriend, but his sister. His character portrays him as almost having a split personality, a nice guy & good friend (to the teammates who have forgiven him), but also being capable of causing problems with the intention of hurting someone. It's contradictory to me.

I haven't read any of the other books in this series, but judging by the details released in this book about them, they seem like they'd be great reads. I would recommend this book.

I received an arc from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest and unbiased review.

Review can be read at It's About The Book

LP Dover writes the best romantic suspense novels around. I’ve read the series from book one and have enjoyed every one if them. This one was especially suspenseful and I found myself both crying at certain parts and screaming at others. Include the sweet way the two characters got together and you’ve got pure gold!

Jaxon was a really bad decision maker. Tired of not getting the limelight, he’d succumbed to jealousy and started doing really crappy things to the guys he was envious of. That’s a really mean and disrespectful way to behave, but luckily he’d also had some friends who’d taught him that who you are isn’t just your job–it’s how you behave towards the people in your life that matters. He was slowly turning it around.

Unfortunately sometimes his instincts were still not the best. When he met the new quarterback for the team, Ryan, he didn’t like him. Dislike turned quickly into more, and he wanted to get under Ryan’s skin. After seeing Ryan’s sister Bristol, he figured he could bang her and then embarrass Ryan in the locker room.

But what a turning point that was.

Bristol loved her new home and job in Charlotte. She was also very interested in this new guy, Jack, who was really sweet and well mannered. Would she be able to trust him after having her last boyfriend be such a douche?

Unfortunately there was going to be a reckoning, and Bristol was going to find out that Jack was not who she thought he was. Really interesting and romantic read where you keep wondering when the bullet is going to hit. Thanks

I recently read an author who I used to love reading back in the day and I thought I should do that when picking my next book too and L.P. Dover came to mind. When I made up my mind to do that Intended for Bristol was the first book that came to mind. It is one of the older books of hers that I had, but since it was so prominent in my mind, I just decided to go for it. I’m happy that I did because I enjoyed myself for the most part and seeing the side characters in this made me curious to read their stories as well.

I said that I only enjoyed it for the most part because there were some things that I wasn’t super crazy about. With Jaxon, I did not care for him in the beginning, he wasn’t particularly likable and I just wasn’t sure about him at first. He definitely grew on me and I did love him by the end. I had no issues with Bristol at all, she was awesome and strong and I loved her from the start. I thought I should just mention Bristol real quick before I got into any of my other negatives, though there wasn’t really a ton.

So before I started Intended for Bristol, I thought that it took place in college and after I started and saw that the hero played for the NFL, I went to look at the synopsis. I was a little nervous reading it until I got to the “obsessed fan” part — that really intrigued me and I’ve been in a thrillery/suspense type mood this year, so I was excited to dive in. Intended for Bristol was super surprising when it came to the suspense parts and it did have somewhat of a villain twirling their mustache vibe to me, but those things didn’t bother me so much. I think what did was just that Bristol was hurt in some ways that could have been avoided — not all the ways, but some ways. And also maybe showing her a picture of your crazy fan should be an urgent, first priority, but no, that’s not what happened! I mean, ultimately I don’t hate the way it played out completely and I did enjoy the resolution to everything, those were just some things I wanted to gripe about.

Now that I have that out of the way, I had a really good time reading this book. It was fun and steamy and tugged on my heartstrings and even made me cry a bit. It was a fantastic story and I really loved reading it!
