About the author

David Andrew Burnie is an accomplished zoologist who was a nature reserve ranger before becoming a natural history author and editor. A prolific writer of many books, including several on dinosaurs, he has seen many of his titles win educational awards and science prizes. His titles for Kingfisher include Kingfisher Knowledge: Endangered Planet and The Kingfisher Illustrated Dinosaur Encyclopedia, which was nominated for the Aventis Prize for Science Books in 2002.

I read this book when I was still a child, maybe 9, 10 years old, and I absolutely love it! Actually I read the Vietnamese translated version (yep, I'm from Vietnam ^^), which was published by a well-known publishing house in my country. It was a long time ago, and now suddenly I wanted to add it into my "Read" shelf on Goodreads and bum, here it goes! :))

As a naturally born flower lover, I've always wanted to get to know more about flowers, because I cannot think of any day in which we can live without these beautiful things given from nature! And I do remember how amazed I was when I turned the first page of this book. The images and descriptions of different kinds of flowers are presented beautifully and attractively, pulling me in pages after pages. The information is presented clearly and also the instructions for some little, interesting experiment with flowers (I remember doing the "flowers to be kept inside of a book for drying", and I did fail :D). And it presents not just flowers from the backyards, but also from across different geographical areas, such as the mountain, the meadow, the Asian rainforest...

This book did not only satisfy my hunger for admiring the beauty of colorful flowers, but also gave me the chance to really know where this beauty comes from, to really understand the flowers that I admire. I'm really grateful for my mother that she allowed me to buy this wonderful, amazing book!

Good balance of informational and simple for kids to learn from. I liked the structure of the pages as well, which allowed for easy browsing and more in depth information when interested.
