why didn’t anyone tell me just how fucking big this book was lmao anyways i love deadpool so i love this. though i did expect the focus to be on the art and design of deadpool, but it’s basically just a rundown of deadpool’s history with a shit ton of blown up comic pages/covers (not that i’m complaining).
Ive been a big fan of deadpool and have been actively keeping up with the various runs and spin offs since around 2011 or so. That being said, this is a great book to fill in some of the story archs, history, and how it's changed over the years. There's loads of brief interviews from the people behind the scenes that made deadpool into what he is today. Lots of cover art and pannels with clips and gems from the marvel and deadpool universes. Great quick read and very informative for deadpool fans regardless of how long you've been following the series.
The art was fantastic. High quality, large, and lots of it. It details the changes of artists over the years in detail and provides some descriptions of the story arcs in broad strokes. REALLY broad strokes. It really could have used more strokes.
The formatting of the text was bizarre. The font size was miniscule and the margins were a good 2+ inches most of the time, leaving all this white space that could have fit more Deadpool goodness.
I have the Lootcrate Edition. The small font works for the excerpts that describe the images - it helps the artwork remain the focal point. On the other hand, using a small font for chapter text is unfavorable. Chapter art design is nice and had a comic feel. I especially enjoyed seeing the parody works of movies and books. Great for fans of Deadpool comics.
Overall, a great summary of Deadpool's history with lots and lots and lots of cover art and comic excerpts.
While it's not the focus, I would have loved even more details about Deadpool's stories. Was surprised that the "fourth wall breaks" were only mentioned once in passing, would have loved to read more about that.
I loved learning the history of Deadpool. All of the writers, artists, etc that helped to shape the Deadpool I enjoy so much today. Very cool history...only issue with the hard copy book is that the print is so small! If you decide to read the physical book too I highly recommend having your glasses close by.
