oh i really loved learning about the four dragons, and four gifts, and four dragon warriors destined to protect the crimson dragon king so very much! i feel like this third installment really showed where the series is headed and i absolutely cannot wait.
and very in love with gija + granny ;___; so sweet. i can't wait to make it back to this legendary village one day.

In this volume, Yona and Hak get two other companions on their journey forward.
Now, we've got a team of four! It is with Yun, a smart bookworm, and the first dragon they met, Gija, the beautiful and sheltered white dragon. ✨

Yona met a priest in the mountains and he advices Yona to seek out the four legendary dragons that symbolize the tribes, to help her out.
It's going pretty slow for now and I'm still not completely hooked. Hope it picks up the pace in the next volume.

IK-SUUUUUUUU!! 😭 😭 😭 😭 😭
Glowing five stars for him and him alone! Well, maybe for Yun and Gija too because I adore there characters too, but IK-SUUUUUUUU!!
I love love love his character so much!! I will be absolutely heartbroken if we don't ever see him again because he has stolen a piece of my heart and will always love this volume specifically because of him. His faith in God was deeply admirable and inspiring. He encouraged me personally as a follower of Jesus and not wanting to ever give up on my faith and trust in Him despite if the whole world may not believe in Him. Not only that, but when we see the flashback of him telling Yun this, I wanted to cry:
"I trust what God tells me and visit people who need encouragement. I help them rediscover the courage to live their lives."
Excuse me while I go sob because I hope and pray I live that out in my life because that speaks to me on so many levels and all I have ever wanted to be personally.
I also found the story of the Crimson Dragon extremely impactful and very moving. It reminded me of when Jesus said, "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends" (John 15:13). Seeing a heavenly being become human and still refuse to leave the humans he loved despite how they wanted to take him life really hit my heart. Very much enjoyed(?) that backstory.
I really really liked Gija a lot too! And Yun! Both are special characters and excited to see Yun explore the world and Gija fulfill his purpose. (He is such a sweetheart!!)
I think the only thing that surprised me this volume is how pushy Hak is? Yona is so clueless (and not sure how I feel about that?) to his "advances" and guess he is more of a "scoundrel" then I thought? (Please no Hak fans come after me for saying that because I DO like Hak and just bought a Hak enamel pin if it matters. *nervous laughter*) I guess based on little spoilers I've seen before I was reading Yona, I felt that their relationship started differently? I'm not sure, but its ultimately not what I expected.
I will definitely reread this volume again at some point because I loved Ik-su so very much! As of right now, this volume be such a special one because of how much he impacted me and inspired me to be like him (though hopefully a lot more mindful of myself then he is about hisself LOL). <3

I really love this series. The Characters and fight scenes are amazing. If you love Inuyasha, I think you will reallllllyyyy love this series.

I am super excited to have finally been able to read another volume of this series! Following along with Yona and Hak's travels in order to find help and protection, this is a volume that expands the lore of this universe really nicely.
I think the myth of the four dragons and, consequently, of the four dragon warriors, that are destined to protect the crimson dragon king, was so interesting to read! It sets up the next steps in Yona's journey really well, in my opinion and I can't wait to meet the other dragons!
This volume also treats the reader to the usual, gorgeous and intricate art, that seems to be a staple in this series. There were also so many sweet moments, not only between Yona and Hak (albeit those are often defused with a really good joke), but also with Gija and his grandmother and Yun and Iksu (the chapter that shows how they met was honestly so sweet, one of my favorites!). The addition of Yun and Gija to Yona's travels will surely bring a lot of fun, since both characters have a great sense of humor and their banter with both Yona and Hak is already super fun!
I can't wait to read the next volume of Yona of the Dawn and see how the story progresses from this point forward!! This series is really good, I think anyone that enjoys a good adventure would also like it!

This was so good!
It starts with Yona and Hak still recovering after the fall and mostly covers how they meet Ik-su and Yun and I love their character and particularly Ik-su and his good natured holier-than-thou Priest nature and like how he is so selfless and his story with Yun is so emotional, its a tear jerker for sure but then again I love how Mizuho fleshes out the characters and makes them so relatable and gives them this layer of emotional-depth.
Plus their next mission, gather the 4 dragons and I love how she gives exposition like slowly rather than rushing into it and all that follows and finally they go to white dragon village and the story there and the battles and insane jealousy and all that!
Its so good, I love the comedic timings and the way the mangaka fleshes out the characters, keeps the story going forward, sets up a mission objective and continues the growth of main character and her evolution and so many more things plus the arts and especially the backgrounds are so good!!

So at least part of this is going to be about collecting Pokemon celestial warriors dragons, huh? I like the writing, art and characters of this one better than I do Fushigi Yuugi's, so that's a plus.

This is a review of volumes 3-4 which I read together back to back. See the plot section for my thoughts on the individual volumes.
Princess Yona is the pampered daughter of her kingdom's king. Isolated and doted on she has two childhood friends, Hak, a general who also protects her and her cousin, Soo-won who helped her mourn her mother's passing and who she is crushing on big time. On her 16th birthday her entire world implodes to to a crippling betrayal... She must decide if she will fall in line or rise up and take back her kingdom.
Amazingly the art is starting to really grow on me... It's still very typical but I'm starting to see the artistry in it. It really helps that in volume 4 we get a pretty incredible character design for the blue dragon. The screen tones are also so gorgeous in these two volumes and add a ton to the beauty of the frames... Volume 4 in particular seems totally different from what I remembered in vol 1-2.
I'm LOVING how quickly we are gathering dragons... in fact, we get one in volume 3 and another in volume 4. I won't go into specifics because those are what makes gathering both so fun! But I will say that seeing Hak, who up to this point has no rival go head to head with Gija is a sheer delight! I have loved Hak from the beginning but now he's really getting a personality beyond the "I'm a bum but super powered" stereotype. And Princess Yona is also growing, slowly and quietly...
I LOVE and ADORE the blue dragon's back history! Poor guy... I can see this dragon becoming my favorite... it depends how quickly he overcomes what came before... but I hope it puts Yona through the wringer and we see some great growth from her and the blue dragon. Yun is another that has quickly won me over! He isn't a dragon but he is the brain who makes it possible for them to figure out where to find these dragons.
This isn't the most tense of manga. I enjoy it but I don't fly through it like some of my favorites... I admit though that volume 4 changed that. I was on the edge of my seat!! Hak is another reason I love this manga... he doesn't get very many moments to share what he thinks with us but we get one in each volume and I love for those moments! They hint at a very, very slow burn romance that I want to see happen... One reason this may read a little slow is that Su-won is nowhere to be seen... no villain makes for a rather easy journey.
I am excited for the next volume of Yona of the Dawn... I want to learn the Blue Dragon's name and I want to meet the new dragons! I want to see where Yona is going to head and what form their ACTIONS will take! There is some great story to come... Ignore the covers and pick up this dragon filled manga!

In this instalment of Yona of the Dawn we follow Yona as she leaves the Wind Tribe in search of a priest who can guide her towards the path she is destined to take.
Yona of the Dawn is always a pleasure to read. This series has some of the best art and Kusanagi's attention to detail is impeccable. Kusanagi is not only a talented artist, but also a talented storyteller. I love the attention she gives to the main players of the story and really appreciated exploring both Yun and Gija's backstories, this really helps bring to life their characters and offers insight into their personalities and motivations. My favourite part of any volume is of course Yona’s interactions with Hak, I can’t help it, they’re my OTP. I also liked the world building in this volume, we got a look at the backstory behind Kohka and I really enjoyed the mythos behind the kingdom. Obviously I’m really looking forward to rereading the next volume!

El tomo 1 y 2 me encantaron, pero es que en éste se han superado muchísimo.
Por favor, los nuevos personajes que nos presentan en este tomo son tan maravillosos, he conectado con ellos lo que no está escrito.
Además, me encanta la evolución que poco a poco se va viendo en Yona y el rumbo que toma la trama es que es espectacular, ME FLIPA.
Y bueno, qué decir de los dibujos, es que siguen siendo tan preciosos como siempre.
TODO EL MUNDO DEBERÍA LEER ESTE MANGA, ES QUE LO RECOMIENDO MUCHÍSIMO, 5/5 COMO UNA CASA.

The plot has arrived! And I am psyched. Yona is off into the wild blue yonder to collect her very own part-dragon male harem, and in the meantime working hard at becoming a more active protagonist. Her primary struggle seems to be about seizing control of her own fate, which suggests to me that she'll eventually find a middle path between 'kill' and 'be killed'. Also, Gija and his grandmother are delightful.
